We have top 10 talent in all areas with one exception , the offensive line ! Sadly , we didn’t hit the transfer portal hard enough ! We can not run the ball !! Will cost us a great season !!

I think it's been a bit of a surprise at how much we've struggled. We got Tashawn Manning out of the portal from Auburn, who started and played regularly the last 2 seasons at Auburn. Horsey has 21 starts under his belt coming in to this year. Flax was a regular in the rotation last year. Eli Cox started last year as a sophomore. On paper, that's 4 pretty good dudes to build around. Partner that with our highly ranked guys out of HS who have a year of college under their belt (John Young, Deondre Buford and Jager Burton) and I thought the play would be better. Hopefully CRod can help with the protection and these guys keep improving.

Horsey and Cox both play different positions this year. Flax most important reps last year (during the bowl) were awful. Horsey didn't look much better at LT in the same game yet now he's at LT out of necessity.

I'm probably as bullish on the OL as any poster, but the talent level at OT is as poor as it's been under stoops. The interior is down a bit too but they'll grow into it. The current OTs just have a low ceiling. There are talented youth there but they are a year away at least

We are still in between on our blocking scheme. The team is struggling with the wide zone.

It's not that the line sucks or isn't talented. It's just making that transition. If they can somehow do both well, it will be hard to stop us. If we can't handle the switch, and don't find a way to make things work, it won't be the season I expect, but it could still be ANOTHER great season.

I think you're right and what we will see will be alot like last year. I can see us going alot more inside zone and gap, and using wide zone when it presents itself , like last year vs LSU and Tennessee.

This should help us in the portal and in HS recruiting. Running the wide zone gets OL even more NFL-ready. We just have to master it to show recruits (similar to what we showed WRs with Levis last year. If we could continue to do both blocking schemes well, that would be incredible

We lost 2 guys to the NFL, one of whom is a starter. We lost a third guy that was expected to be drafted. Those guys are not easily replaced.
How much better would this group be if Dare Rosenthal come back?

I’d say we wouldn’t be having this conversation at all. Horsey would be at guard and Burton would be a backup at both guard spots.

The outside scheme seems to me to be part of the " ProSet" offence. Coen gave it a go but I don' t know if it was modified. Scan has done the same. Perhaps the ProSet takes more time and practice?

Lack of LT pretty much forced moves that tore apart the strength of the line. Instead of having a strength that the line could attack with…it created two mediocre spots the line is just trying to survive with. The biggest disappointment was that Goodwin has not developed into a serviceable Tackle yet.

Imo anyone looking at Goodwin could tell he was not a year 1 starter. I voiced my doubts about him generally due to some weird lower body structure.

Anyway, I think we're down at both LT and RT. Horsey and flax both look way better there than in the bowl, so that's promising. Still alot of room to upgrade regardless. In the years to come I think wohlabough will be a good player. He looked good at RT and he's way young

Francis, do you watch a lot of football? Do you read the paper, go online? We’ve been using backup RB’s, hell I don’t even need to spell it out. You’re a lost cause.

Good lord man. The line hasn’t been great but now it’s to the point where many are underrating them lol. Crod is a playmaker and game changer. He will elevate the team. We’re under new management and it’s 4 weeks in. I’m as crazy a bat shit fan as can be, but damn this team is 4-0 and looking like they’ve got the pieces to compete for something special. Maybe time to recognize it.

Perhaps more significantly, we are 4-0 with (a) a win in the Swamp, (b) an all SEC running back waiting in the wings and (c) the team hasn't played anything approaching its best game.

Wide zone is a tough switch. Don't be so hard your guys. Anybody older than year 2 players weren't recruited for it, and unless they end up with nfl potential they likely won't ever master it.

Wait on your RB to get back this week. You aren't going to be great at wide zone with average backs. CRod should make some difference.

Pass blocking is still a bit different. Few more max protects and Levis still gotta get his internal clock going as well. He's an excellent runner too. I'd rather see him take off more than take sacks. Hits are hits.

Hang on…I translate hillbilly. He’s referring to the Ohio St backup quarterback Kyle McCord. That’s a long shot in my book but certainly would be a credible replacement next year.
No thanks.

Really not interested in a guy who has just stood on the sidelines signaling in plays. Even if he was a former 4 or 5*. We need somebody who has actual D1 CFB playing experience to be our starter in 2023. That is why Levis was able to step in last yr, had played and faced live round fire, not just practice dummy rounds.

He said he is a hillbilly translator... Thats funny....

I'll keep saying it till proven otherwise.....watch how much better our rushing stats are with Chris Rodriguez getting the ball behind this line than Smoke & Wright
I'll keep repeating.....CRod will obviously help, but if anyone thinks he'll have rushing numbers like last year are just kidding themselves. He is a strong power runner, but he can't do it all if the O line doesn't open a few holes, of which they've not shown they can consistently do. I hope I'm wrong but the O line best improve really quick....like this Saturday quick lol.

Some of the words it corrects to aren’t even close to what you originally meant to type is the most frustrating part

Typed in "hogtied" last week in a text. It autocorrected to a word nowhere close and 15 letters long. Did so again 2 more times even after I selected the word I typed from the menu.... Never have used the word it added for me without my consent. I really have to double check everything before I send ANY text or message. Extremely frustrating

Much more potent passing attack this year softens the losses on the OL some. At least they can't bring the kitchen sink. Will be interesting seeing a guy like CR running with a passing attack like we have. In the past teams had to put most defenders in the box to slow CR down.

This is not exactly true. Goodwin is one of the most talented players Stoops has signed since he has been at Kentucky. I see you do not think much of Flax, but Flax was a 4 star signing who only gets better with reps. Once he gets comfortable, I expect Flax to have a good year. Including Goodwin, we have a lot of young OTs with talent. I have high hopes for Nik Hall too. What they do not have, yet, is experience.

Most people may have forgotten Dare Rosenthal had another year of eligibility. Dare chose to leave and probably made a mistake. Stoops knew by the bowl game, but may have expected Dare back before then.

As we see, this is not Eddie Gran's offense. The goals are not the same. We have a future NFL quarterback and 3 future NFL receivers. The biggest problem is mediocre pass protection, and that is getting better. We find out more this week. Scan wants a clean pocket for Levis. If the passing game keeps getting better, you force safeties to back out of the box in coverage. Then you can run the football. This seems to be a transition period for the offense. By the latter half of October, the starting offensive line may not be the same.

I'm talking about horsey and flax. I think the future at OT is really good for wohlabough. Remains to be seen for Goodwin.

Okay. There is nothing wrong with Horsey, who was preseason all conference. Horsey is a guard, playing out of position. He is not a tackle physically. You understimate what Flax can be with more experience, but I understand how you got there. Let's give him a couple more weeks. We can say it remains to be seen for any player, since we don't ever know their futures. But Goodwin was offered by every blue blood program, which means the best coaches in the country like Saban, Kirby, and Day know what kind of player he can be. I agree with you on Wohlabaugh but he is a year away from having that kind of physicality. I like the potential of Hall and Jones, if they get opportunities. Jones is out for the year, but he is a big dude.

I wonder if there has been any thought to pulling Eli from under center and plugging him back into this puzzle of a line?

I agree with this. CRod will make a difference definitely, not just in the running game but his superiority in picking up blitzes compared to the other backs. Multiple sacks have been on backs not picking up blitzes and Levis not recognizing it soon enough to get rid of the ball or take off. Flax has not been great, but Stoops places quite a bit of that blame on TEs and WRs missing blocks that make him look bad. I think CRod's presence, and some maturity from the WRs in the blocking schemes will make a bigger difference than most think. As far as Goodwin is concerned, he can play great in spots, but he is still a kid compared to plenty of the people he is lined up against. Give him some time and he will be great.
