2014 / 2015

Completion %: 57.3 / 57.4

Rating: 122.51 / 116.40

YPG: 226.5 / 223.3

YPA (per attempt): 6.9 / 6.8

Attemps/Gm: 32.8 / 32.9

Flat-out weird that the stats are almost identical on every point except:

TD / INT: 14-9 / 9-12

And that point is flat out weird when you consider: What returned on the offensive line, what returned at receiver, the addition of a better pass-receiving tight end, a new offensive coordinator with an emphasis on explosive plays and vertical passing, and a year of development.

The lack of improvement is even more striking when you consider other factors:

Missouri is not as good as they were last year. South Carolina is not as good as they were last year. Georgia is not as good as they were last year. Florida is better and Tennessee may be better.

More in-depth in the numbers:

Against FBS teams with a winning record, Towles TD-INT ratio last year was 8-9. This year it is 1-8. One touchdown and nine interceptions against FBS teams with winning records including Barker's pick.

Against Power Five teams (i.e. in SEC play) Towles ratio is 3-9 this year. It was 9-10 last year.

These stats include Barker's limited PT but these are UK's overall passer rating stats, which are almost entirely Towles'. Passer rating by month:

Sept: 126.94
Oct: 114.79
Nov: 58.62

In the 1H of games this year Towles has a 2-7 ratio. The only quarter he's got a positive ratio is the 3rd.

Now some really scary stats:

On 3rd and SHORT (1-3 yards to go) UK's completion % this year is 38.5%.
On 3rd and MEDIUM (4-6 yards to go) UK's completion % is 30.8%.

UK has PASSED for a first down just SEVEN TIMES
this year when it has been 3rd and 1-6 yards.

26 pass attempts, just 7 passing conversions on 3rd and 1-6 yards to go.

Here's what's really surprising: Towles' area of struggle has been a glaring one. Between the 40's. From UK's 40 yard line to their opponents 40 yard line UK has passed for 0 touchdowns (i.e. no touchdown passes of 40-60 yards) and six interceptions. His rating is 82.96 in this area of the field. That's significant because it means UK is not getting into scoring position enough.

From UK's 1-yd line to UK's opponent's 40 yard line UK has thrown zero touchdowns and 12 INT. That's "scary" because UK isn't exactly giving away a lot of scoring opportunities this year. Inside opponents' 40 yard line Kentucky has a 9-1 ratio.
