Top center cuts school list to 7, visits UK this week

"Marques Bolden — ranked by Scout.com as the nation’s No. 1 center — has cut his list of schools to UK, Duke, Alabama, Kansas, Baylor, Oklahoma, Texas Christian and Wake Forest.

The 6-foot-9 prospect from DeSoto, Texas will also start his official visit to Kentucky on Wednesday. Bolden has also scheduled official visits to Duke (Sept. 18) and Kansas (Sept. 25). He took an unofficial visit to Alabama over the weekend.

Bolden told the Herald-Leader last month that — while he hadn’t yet officially named any favorites — UK, Duke and Kansas were the three schools certain to get official visits. He also talked of getting to the NBA early and was impressed that seven players from last season’s UK team had entered the draft.

“I thought that was great for the university,” he said. “They don’t really want to hold guys (back). That’s why guys go to Kentucky, to get to the league. … It’s great to have that many guys off your team to go to the league.”

Bolden’s mentor and AAU coach is Jeff Webster, who played the same role for ex-UK star Julius Randle when he was in high school. Webster was also a standout player for Oklahoma, another school on Bolden’s list.

Scout.com ranks Bolden as the No. 12 overall prospect in the class of 2016."

More than a little shocked at how poorly Shaka is doing with the top TX recruits.
