Tom Crean's mea culpa

Just odd. So if you were a player who has had no disciplinary problems, you still had to write an apology letter to some former player/coach etc. of whom may or may not have done stupid things themselves. But all the while pretending that all former players were some ideal role models, that needed to be asked for their forgiveness.
It's so strange and cult like. Just bizarre.

Beating Kentucky on a last-second shot in a regular season game at home- that is literally the highlight of the Crean era at Indiana. Pathetic.[laughing]

Letters?

Don't they have email and text messaging at IU?

Never mind. Everything they do is rooted in the 1970s.

Did Crean write a letter of apology for cutting down the nets after losing?

This is a photo of true Greek tragedy. Funny yet so incredibly sad.

It's an empty arena for crying out loud. What is that clown doing up there?!?!?

Yet there is an element of "The Emporer's New Clothes" in this as well. We needed a kid to yell at him that his team just lost at home.

People should be ashamed of themselves for making fun of Coach Tom Crean. Coach Tom Crean is finally rebuilding the once proud IU Basketball program that that idiot Booby Knight left in shambles. My letter to Coach Tom Cream..."Don't stop being YOU Tom Crean...don't ever STOP being YOU!"

And Coach, bless you for thinking about the kids that took IU basketball to the Sweet 16 in 2012...."All Hail Coach Tom Crean! HAIL!"

I can see years down the road some kid looks at one of those SS rings with awe and asks what year he won the NC, then the player blushes and says it's for a SS, but adds that they beat UK, LMAO!!!!

I wonder what knight thinks of Clappy.
Has there ever been a greater contrast between two coaches in history than Knight and Crean? That "Clappy" nickname says it all, really. That's what Crean does when his team is screwing up. He marches down the sideline clapping. If a player screws up, he's hugging him and slapping him on the behind. His approach, I suppose, is positive reinforcement. Knight never heard that phrase, I don't believe. If his team just screwed up, he's yelling obscenities from the sideline. If a player just screwed up or didn't listen to his instructions, he's got him by the arm and he's sitting next to Knight on the bench and getting an earful. I suppose both are creepy in their own ways, but you never have to wonder what Knight's thinking. He'll just tell you. He's the coach you love to hate because he so brash but his teams win and he'll tell you why. Crean is just creepy in a weird way. He seems very anal retentive and spastic to me. He's got to be the least likable coach I know. His teams don't win but he wants everyone to think they're winners. I gotta say, I'd rather have Knight.

At this point Crean is so self-conscious and unsure of himself that he will flail about with any gimmick that pops into his soft little head in order to try and change what the reality of his situation is.

I bet to him it feels like drowning.

Apparently Crean was in Evansville yesterday doing some "Chalk Talk". The Courier & Press headline in the Sports section was "Crean wants more leadership" . In the article it says something to the effect of his team is too quiet. He wants more leadership from the upper classmen (older players).
Hey Tom, News flash here, Try being a leader yourself...instead of an enormous douchebag. I'm sure most people think the same thing...

I heard he started out his "Chalk Talk" by discussing the types of chalk used at IU... He said they mostly use sidewalk chalk, occasionally some pastel chalk is used during the spring. He was then interrupted and was informed he was there to talk about basketball... His reply, "Ummmm oh yeah, right. I really don't have much to tell you...?"

It killed me at the time, but looking back on it, it may have been a blessing. After all, Clappy may have been gone if it hadn't been for that game. Because of it Hoosier fans have had to endure him for the last couple of years.

There is no greater insult to a coach than for his rival's fanbase to hope and pray that he somehow manages to stay put in his current role. It's like a comedian hoping that a Clinton or a Bush stays in office.
