Tim Couch on Levis

Most physically gifted QB we ever had. Short of a complete flop, he's almost guaranteed to be no worse than 2nd round. If he shows consistent flashes, you can book him for the first round. If he balls out, he legit will be a top 5 pick.

Should be a very exciting season for many reasons and this is one of them.

IMO don’t think he’s as good as Tim. Not as accurate or have his touch nor as instinctive.

Tim was a hellacious athlete… just didn’t run it much.

With that said I hope Will proves me wrong! Love the way he plays.

The ability to tuck it and run is huge. Doesn't have to be the same level of passer Tim was to do the same damage. Making defenses honor the scramble opens windows.

I don't think he does either but couch had maybe 65/75% of the arm strength. Couch was a really good athlete but Levis is elite.

Couch was pretty easily the best QB at UK in my lifetime inc Levis one year here. TC ability to see the field was what sets him apart and his coolness under pressure, he just had "it"! WL is stronger for sure but you could say that about any position players when comparing to players 20-25 years ago. I love Levis and being the second best UK QB in the last 40-50 years would be great for sure! I wouldn't put him 2nd yet either but I do expect to see him get there!

He needs better receivers and a good o-line to show what he can do.

I agree with you on touch/instinct. Those two things are currently the two ONLY things I feel that Levis is behind Couch on in overall skill/ability which is saying A LOT. In todays NFL the QB needs the ability to take off and run, which Levis has great ability to do. As you said, his touch needs great work also pocket awareness IMO can get better... His arm is VERY powerful though and is a downfield threat for any team! Personally, when people say 1st pick on the NFL draft I feel that is a HUGE stretch right now (not taking anything away from his ability)... I look, as of right now, tops 2-4th round, BUT he can prove me wrong this year. Couch had amazing touch, knowledge of game/surroundings... the only reason his NFL career wasn't better was the god-awful team that drafted him (expansion team?) had literally NOTHING protecting him.

GO CATS!

That's fair, I do wonder how Will would be in Mumme's air raid

as great as couch was, he never had the arm Levis has. Couch currently trumps him in accuracy, touch on throws, and decision making.

Tim was the most accurate QB I've ever seen. Ture story. Tim to freshman receiver "where do you like the ball?" receiver said "on the numbers" Tim asked "which one?" and he was serious.

However Tim did not throw a great deep ball in fact he often overthrew receivers, while the long ball is Levis' strength. Really different kinds of QBs with a bit different skill sets. I hope like Tim, Will becomes a permanent fixture around this program for the out years.

I saw Couch and Yeast have this conversation on a particular route with Yeast 25-30 yards from the LOS when catching the ball.

It sounds silly, but if you ever attended a Mumme practice, they would run one play 20-25 times in a row. And Couch could hit either side of Yeast’s chest from 25-30 yards.

I would describe the difference this way: Couch excelled at throwing with freakish accuracy to receivers facing him, either coming back towards him or stopped. Levis seems more comfortable throwing while judging the speed of the receiver moving laterally or away from him.

This doesn’t relate to onfield football but one of the most remarkable things I ever saw with Tim was him walking around the outside of the field while not playing as a freshman.
Tim was throwing a football to the ground and bouncing it back up to hands over while walking... with either hand ... like dribbling a basketball. Impossible.
Also to show how prepared he was at the end of a practice he had rushers get into his right arm while scrambling to his left so he could practice throwing on the run left handed.
