“That’s a really fun way to play. And not many coaches are telling you, ‘If you don’t shoot the ball, you’re gonna sit next to me.’ So, it’s a lot of fun.”

BYU averaged 32 3’s per game last year under Pope and he wants a higher number this season with a lot of the long-range shots coming in transition

“I don’t know how these teams are going to try to defend us all game long. Especially the way Coach wants to play — so fast"

“If you wanna guard us, you’re gonna have to be in shape,”

I thought 🐄 had cracked the code with the platoon. We did win 38 straight. Then he said we'll never do that again. It was similar to 96 when we just ran people to death. Since Pope was there, will he try to recreate that style of play?
Please 🙏
Don't be shocked if Cal tells his guys to run and go THE OTHER WAY in the middle of trying to score. We could absolutely smoke some teams this year.

Unfortunately, we were ranked in the bottom half of the NCAA in offensive possessions per game during the 2015 season. Cal certainly didn’t use that insane amount of depth to wear down other teams. As the season progressed we went from free flowing to a more methodical, predictable approach where we were solely winning based on our talent discrepancy.

Yeah, because as we figured out 🐄 prefers the rock fight. At the end we were right back to his way. Notre dame had us, but we riggled off the hook.

The Platoon was great. It led to a historically great defense. However it ended with the Poythress injury in Dec. By mid Jan we were down to an 8 man rotation with Lee (#9) getting a few minutes.
Also a Platoon works best when there is little difference in the starters and bench, AND a platoon doesn’t have to be a 50/50 split.

It is fine and dandy to shoot a lot of 3's but we have to make a lot of them to win games.
We may win some by 25 or 30 but we could lose some by 20+ With that said bring on Pope
and his 3 musketeers (all 12 of This thread should be called the chicken littles. All teams live and die by their shooting.

You still win with defense. Give me a team of old players who wont play like Reed in his first NCAA game like a deer in the head lights moment but the Reed that in his first NBA game tourched the Lakers.

UConn was the ONLY team in the TOP 25 scoring offenses and also in the TOP 25 ponts-allowed defenses.
They were 23rd offensively, scoring at 81.4 ppg and 9th defensively, allowing only 63.4 ppg, with a margin of 18.0 points.
They finished 37-3 and won the National Championship, winning all games by comfortable margins. They dominated.
Yes, defense matters. It always has ... and so does experience.

I know hindsight is ALWAYS 100%, but based on all of the glowing references on the defense prowess of Butler, Oweh and Williams, I cannot help but wonder how Kentucky would've fared with those three (3) on the '23-'24 team, in place of Wagner, Edwards and Bradshaw ?? It seems to me, in a way, that is the kind of team we're going to have this season ... a little bit, although I very much hope and suspect that Pope will will be quick to make adjustments during games. This season will be very interesting ... I'm REALLY looking forward to it. GO CATS !!

Next year will be like Pitino's 1st season here, 3's coming from everywhere. Except next years team will have a lot more size, talent & depth than Pitino's 1st team did. And as a result we'll be a much better team next season than what Pitino had.

If we shoot 35 3's a game at around a 40 percent clip that means we make around 14 a game give or take. That's 42 points a game from beyond the arc or basically half our points a game. I think we avg high 80's. If our defense is any good which is should be we will win a lot of games.

If I didn’t know better I would say Reed found some confidence. Maybe his coach believed in him enough to start him?? What a crazy idea??
