Thoughts…Auburn the overall #1 now?

So let’s say Duke wins the ACC Championship tonight, with Auburn’s slight downward trend the past week or two, will that push Duke to overall #1? Granted if UofL wins I still think Auburn still holds the spot.

I don’t think the trend matters as much as the overall body of work. I’d have been surprised if Duke got the overall #1 but Auburn deciding to lose 5 games at the end of the season could allow it.

I understand quad 1 wins and body of work, but I just don't get how Auburn should be the #1 overall seed. The question should be asked... do they look like the best team in college basketball? I don't think they do, and one could argue that they lost a significant amount of mojo the past couple weeks. They look like a very good team, as opposed to the best team. If they are as good as the media say they are, they should not be losing so many games down the stretch.

Exactly. Will the committee look at those as a reason not to award the overall #1?

Who in your opinion is better?

Tough question. Auburn certainly didn't help themselves. I still think they're the best team in the nation. I think Florida looks like more of the #2 than Duke does. Really not trying to be an SEC homer, but if Tennessee wins, I think there's an honest case that Duke is close to the overall #5 than the overall #1.

They have lost 3 of their last 4 games heading into the NCAA Tournament. Does that sound like a team deserving of the #1 overall seed? I don't think that is typically just waved off and excused for any team.
You are 100% right. My above is just stating who think the actual best team is. Out of everyone in the field, I'd want to play Auburn the least, followed by Florida and Houston. I said last night that I didn't think Alabama was capable of winning it all.

I think it will now go to Duke or Houston
I agree. Duke wins tonight they get the overall #1. If not, and UofL wins it’ll go to Houston.

Auburn isn’t the team they were a month or two ago. It’s not injuries, but something has happened, or they simply have believed their own hype and phoned it it. However I would be surprised to see them in the Final Four as well.

Might have had another one of those team fights.

Duke can have the overall 1 now. I don't think they win it all with Flagg out couple weeks. They might make it to the E8 cause they always cake walk.

They reported today that he’s back for the NCAAT. I imagine they kept him out as a precaution. I still don’t want to play Duke, being honest

I'm not sure the ordering of losses should matter. They are supposed to be taking into account the entire season.

28-5 in a historically good SEC should mean an awful lot. Losses were always going to happen here. I wouldn't put too much stock in losing by 2 to Alabama, 5 to UT and on the road at Texas AM.

Reasonable minds can disagree tho. I don't think there is a clear cut number 1 team in America this season. Duke, Houston, Florida, Bama, Auburn.........i mean you could make a strong case for many teams.

It will be interesting with UF because I don't think they are currently on the 1 line and we've heard time and time and time again the games on Sunday do not matter. So well see.

Tho perhaps since they beat Bama, they jumped them.

I hear you, but I disagree. Ordering of the losses should matter. They are objectively on a downward trajectory, and that indicates a trend. 28-5 is a great record, but it isn't even the best record in the SEC right now, today. How can they be as dominant as people suggest and unquestionably #1 with that being true?

The point Answer is making though is that trajectory and last ten games are no longer considered. The committee will compare resume vs full resume and that’s all

I don’t like them, but Duke has a case if they win tonight. They’re at the top in most metrics, and although it was early season, they do have a head to head win over Auburn. Strength of schedule matters, but we have to be approaching the point where it doesn’t completely outweigh the extra losses when awarding the #1 overall seed.

I don't think they are the clear cut number 1.

Then again I'm not sure anyone is.

I think a fully healthy Duke, Florida, and Houston are all better. But they're not more deserving if you look at total body of work. It's kind of the college football playoff argument; what's the criteria, best team or most deserving?

As long as they are basing this on resume, it will always be most deserving over best team (tho i'd argue it SHOULD be best team)
Some years that might be the same team.

This year is it? I have no clue.

Honestly I don't know how anyone can say a team is a clear cut number one.

On Kenpom the efficiency margins we have Duke sitting at +38. Then you got Florida, Auburn and Houston sitting at +35.

no clue. Dukie Vitale is making a case for Duke right now LOL.

Honestly if they give Duke the overall 1 I'm good with that......

This will ultimately be determined on the court anyways. They will have to go through a bunch of good teams to win the title.
