Wet toilet paper is right, though. About the whole team and staff.

Did you have any faith that we'd make the plays necessary to win during the last ten minutes? I didn't.

I turned it on with 10 minutes left. Saw we were up 4.

Assumed we’d lose because I’ve seen that we have no ability to make stops.

Recognizing “wet toilet paper” and speculating that it might not matter is the concern here.

If I counted right, Gonzaga scored on 18 of their last 22 possessions.

I think when Kyle made the comment about the defense we were actually much better statistically but still awful for our standards. I think we were roughly 75th in KenPom. Fast forward a few weeks and we’re 50 spots lower.

That kind of thing is what happens when teams "solve" you, and we've been solved. I think South Carolina was the pivotal game. Going forward, either the players evolve dramatically or they settle for wins when the other team plays terribly.

And by "players" I mean our frontcourt. We [basketball bennies] have been critical of our guards defense -- we hated the feast at the 3 pt line -- but it looks like the guards were having to sag back and help. Gonzaga didn't beat us at the 3 pt line.

Now I don't really blame anyone. The 3 seven footers had to forego normal training -- injuries and the NCAA -- but other teams aren't going to back off from pity.

Part of the “solving” is just playing better offensive teams. Tennessee, Florida, and Gonzaga are the best offensive teams we’ve played this year and are all top 25. UNC is next at 28th. Those 5 games here are the regulation(not counting Florida OT) opposition point totals. Mind you we did win 2 of these games so no bias. 83, 85, 84, 103, and 89.

The idea that Kentucky could score 90 every game and just win that way was the stupidest idea ever. There is to much room for error that way, and to become so reliant on one aspect you start to press. Them letting Gonzaga score on pretty much every possesion from the 11 min mark on is as pathetic as it gets

The strategy used to beat us last night and the effectiveness of it is simply off the chart laughable.

A high school coach could have made the necessary defensive adjustments to pack it in and cut it off, but instead Slouch Cal trots out Ugo and Bradshaw to chase guards, to the delight of Few.

I don't think "letting" figures into it. I saw plays where our bigs just got muscled 180 degrees away from the action. I suspect that they're just not strong enough to be "cured" by anything but Time -- their bodies getting bigger and the weight room working its magic.

They will all be gone by then. Z is the only one I want back

I don't need Ken Pom or any other metrics to tell me that we can't guard anyone. That is pretty obvious and it has been that way for 5 years.

This is the problem with the Calipari system. Bradshaw and Wagner and Edwards may go on to be NBA all stars. But, they are not great college players right now. They will play their 1 year in college...get drafted...and develop their bodies and games.

We need guys to stay more than 1 year and develop in college. But, talents like Bradshaw/Wagner/Edwards will not do that when a stack of cash is waved in front of their noses. Shepherd is probably gone too, fwiw.

If you look at other blue bloods, they do not follow the Calipari model. Self does not have a TEAM FULL of FR 1 and done kids. Neither does Hubert Davis. Neither does Crier. Neither does _____.

We need to quit loading up on 1 and done kids. That jig is up.

In a perfect and logical world where $$$$ doesn't rule all decisions, we get Bradshaw, Wagner, Edwards, Dilly, Shepherd, Z and others for another season. But, that is fairy world...not reality.
