99.9 % of the talk from all the paid experts was about Okafor being the #1 pick in the draft.
Interesting as to why some of us question the talking heads while others follow them right off the cliff.
Are there any coaches that can actually develop talent better than Cal?
I think not!

Have the talking experts ever been wrong?
It's just their opinion......like mind and yours......
They're more nearer right than I am.
Don't know 'bout you.

No, I'm not degrading Cal.

Not about their opinion as much as it is about promoting a brand. Duke is the flavor of the month (AND ESPN's brand.) and has been ESPN's flavor for a while now.

In "MY" opinion, their opinion is a bit skewed. You may even say jaded......jmo

*sigh*

Opinions and predictions made before a season is even played, and just as importantly before the draft order is established, are never going to be certain. Lots of people not associated with Duke (ie everyone) picked Okafor as the likely first pick. Many of those same people have picked Cats as first picks in other years. I don't get why certain fans see these slights and biases where there isn't any real evidence they exist.

Geez, These guys are multi millionaires now and people want to incessantly debate why someone went # 2 or # 3 or whatever in that top 10.

Seems plain silly to me.

Forget where the hell they were drafted, let's see what they're doing 2-3 years from now.

I'm not alleging any media bias, but to overtake the consensus "best big guy since Dwight Howard" by actual draft time is a big win for Calipari. I can't remember who said my quote there, but the idea was bandied about. By draft time, everyone knew KAT was the guy, despite okafor getting a title bump. Recruits will notice that.

Skal is predicted by most to be the #1 pick next year. If he doesn't go #1, does that mean Cal did not help him develop and can't develop talent? Trying to understand the logic of the OP.

I understood that OP's comment was directed to Cal's ability to develop players
using the experts' rating as a starting point.

The experts' "starting point" and the NBA draft picks are not an exact science.
Sometimes, I think that the "draft pickers" are way off.

Wow, that was quick! There must be some kind of "Dook Alert" on here, somewhere. Can we turn it off, please?

Well, when you post about Duke, why wouldn't Duke fans respond?

And I would say Okafor IS the best traditional big since Dwight. That assessment hasn't changed much. But the NBA game isn't all about Shaqs anymore... Bigs who can also take the ball outside are REALLY valued... Hence KAT going first. My guess is that both teams will be happy with their picks in the years to come.

.

That was my point... "dook" wasn't even in the headline, but there was tugging on the line, right away!

Are there Kentucky fans hovering around the dook board, looking for the slightest mention of the Wildcats?

Going #3 isn't a fall. Okafor was #1 worthy, but hard-charging Towns passed him.

"Duke" was not even in the op's thread at all...."duke" was no until 3rd post, then guess what? next two posts are Dukies.

Jahlil Okafor was mentioned in the FIRST SENTENCE of the post.

Then a UK fan mentioned Duke a post or two later.

No Duke fans even posted until that point.

So I don't get what you are upset with. If you don't want to read posts from Duke fans, either a) get all the UK fans to stop posting regarding Duke (unlikely) or just don't read threads that start with posts about Duke and Duke players (more likely).

Duke fans are just defending their players and coach just like we do.

Having said that, they should do it on their own board, IMHO.

I do not go to other boards and stir up stuff.

If you go to other boards, its just good manners to keep your mouth shut or at least be respectful.

This goes for UK fans as well.

I know some UK fans are just as bad as these guys on other boards.

Upset? My original post merely referenced the rapid responses of dook fans... as if there is some kind of application that alerts them to spring into action. I then asked if we could turn that off... please.

If you found that to be anything other than a light-hearted jab on this KENTUCKY Board... that's your issue, not mine.

As for your advice, you should probably modify it to fit your own "sensitive" nature.

If it's done in a civil manner, I don't see why it would be a problem. These are free messageboards, so they're going to attract posters from other schools. That said, UK fans should take it as a compliment that posters favoring other schools come here to read and post frequently, likely because of higher volume/participation over here on a more frequent basis. Also, I haven't really witnessed your Mods going nuts on rival posters (like the UNC free board).

I think there is a little hyperbole in the post. Sure, there were a lot of guys predicting Okafor #1 but so did many experts having Karl going #1 too. It isn't like he was chopped liver here. I'm not going to deny Karl going #1 doesn't help recruiting bc it does, but what I think really helps more than that is guys like Booker going lottery. A guy who wasn't even considered a one and done and Cal developed and showcased him into a lottery pick.

I don't get the OP's point. It isn't some slight or some diss at Cal because they had one guy over the other. I think that's a reach. He has developed some guys and put some guys in the NBA I never thought he would like Harrelson, Miller, and Liggins so his development is undeniable when it comes to guys like that.

Like I said, if posters are respectful, then that is fine.

Except that posting on other people's boards is rarely done with respect or without malicious intent.

Most of the time it's to trumpet your program and thump your chest (and that is pretty evident when you wait until your team wins a title before you come over. Where were you guys after the Mercer and Lehigh losses?)

I just don't do that. I figure that anyone who knows anything about college ball knows that UK is the GOAT program in college ball. I do not have to go to another board to gloat.

If you are respectful, then I don't have a problem with you. If you come over here and try to tell me how much better your team is and how your coach is better at all things than ours, then you are just a crap stirrer and I have no use for you.

That is how I see it.

I just can't go to another board and look like an arrogant butthole. It's not my style. I stay on UK boards or go occassionally to a national board, but I don't post on other team's boards.

Believe it or not, I came here for the increased volume because summer is slow at work. Again, believe it or not. You clearly have very strong opinions on non-UK fans being over here...

Oh, well maybe I misunderstood your tone... by saying "Can this stop happening?" I assumed it upset you. If it was just meant as a light-hearted jab then I am absolutely fine with it:) I am not so sensitive... was just surprised at what seemed like sensitivity from your end. Sorry!

Fair enough.

BTW, did you (I think it was you?) ever post the results of your computer game vs. 2010 UK? I think you went with Wall & Co. for your choice, and I was curious about the resulting score.

I didn't! Although I had a GREAT group of teams. I had...

Six Duke teams (86, 92, 99, 01, 10, and 15... sorry, I'm a Duke guy!:))
07 Florida
07 OSU
05 UNC
95 Wake
04 Uconn
10 Butler
01 Arizona
10 Kentucky
09 UNC
82 UNC
92 Michigan
90 LSU
92 UNLV
01 Maryland

and I think I had two or three more done, but I'm blanking on them.

The Kentucky team was brutal:) The two teams only met once, and Duke won, but I think that was largely because we were humans playing vs the computer. I played with that UK team too, a few times, and fell victim to the "Give the ball to John Wall!" syndrome... which worked out fine. Between Wall, PPat, and Cousins, that team was MEAN... what a combo of PF and C.

Overall we did like four tournaments... won two, lost two... I think we went out to UNLV once, and 05 UNC once.

I can actually run some simulated games with that UK team and see what happens... I'll do that. I love video games, and love basketball, so its a good combo:)

Great point. Early projections had Montrezl as a lottery pick. Even most of the 2014 mock drafts.

They certainly didn't factor in the negative impact of Pitino coaching him for an extra year.

Thanks for the update. It sounded like a cool idea. With 6 of your teams in the field, I'm guessing some of those squads bumped into each other a few times.

From your list, 2007 Florida would've been my dark horse. Although, I don't think any computer game could factor in the incredible chemistry of that team. For one thing, when it came to rebounds: If you had your eye on Noah--- Horford would swoop in from the other side. If you were watching Horford--- somehow, Noah jumped in to snatch the ball. I swear they had some kind of ESP mind-link going on during that season.
