This team has no chance at a NC and I'm okay with that.

You should too really. As fans, we have been very spoiled and we have come to expect excellence every year. Sometimes you swing and miss and I think Cal has done that this year. I'm expecting things to change considerably next year though. The question we have to ask is, who is going to the NBA from this years team? I see 2 to 3 tops and we will have a boatload of talent next year. I see a possible transfer or two in the near future as well. It will be too hard to get everyone playing time. Does anyone truly believe different?

How can you swing and miss with 5 five star players on your roster?

I don't accept it. If we are going to be a OAD farm team for the NBA, then I expect we be in the running for the ship every year.

Lot of basketball to be played between now and March.

That Julius Randall team had no chance to get past the 1st weekend.....

My lord can we at least wait until after the SECT to make predictions like this?
Especially when 4 or 5 of our best players are Fr. Or So.

Kwilt also said Poy was going to get a double double today. He's just a homer.....I'm OK with that unless we are debating.

I agree with the OP. We have been very fortunate in that Cal's has batted almost 100 percent on his freshmen. It just so happens that Skal is the biggest bust to come into college basketball in the last decade. There isn't a team in the country that could get nothing from its expected best player and overcome that.

In Skal's case, it's worse than an injury. At least with an injury, other guys get the chance to step up and somewhat fill the void. In Skal's case, Cal is too loyal to give someone else a chance, so we end up with a guy getting significant minutes who is actually a liabillity.

I'm just basing everything on shooting and I think we are a soft basketball team. I don't know how you fix shooting woes during the season.

11 games into a possible 35-40 total and we have "no chance". Strongly disagree. Sure we're struggling in many areas right now but 5 out of 6 seasons Cal has figured it out. Also the biggest reason I'd say we will have a chance is that there's not a dominate team out there. UNC is probably most people's favorite right now but with Williams and their lack of ever playing defense, I don't think so. Kansas - well - just no. Can't ever make it out of the first weekend. Of course there are others but we will be right in the mix. The one thing that wins championships is guard play, which is why we lost two of the ones we should've won - both to Uconn. We have three great guards who can all beat their man anytime they want and create their own shot or find the open man. That will be huge come tourney time. Two of the three are deadly ft shooters - now Briscoe has to improve to at least 65%. If he does and the team improves at the rate most all of Cals's teams do, I sure as hell wouldn't want to play against three guards like ours.

I think shooting improves. Murray is coming around. Cal said today Ulis reinjured his elbow before the OSU game. That's an issue. We have a 40%+ juco shooter on the bench Cal has forgotten about. Skal has a midrange shot. So does Hump. Lots of time to to grow into a good enough shooting team.

yeah, good observation. swingin' and missin'--probably a nit year. we just have to ask "who is going to the nba?" i think we could possibly lose everybody to the draft except jonny david and skal. rumors already swirling about pulliam and wynyard transferring. good thing we have a boatload of talent coming in. bbn just has to suck it up and move on.

I think they have a chance as much as anyone...college bball sucks this year...but if they don't I'm not contemplating suicide over it, but I'm also not acting like the OP who is ready the throw in the towel in December.

I will agree ppl should just enjoy the ride

I'm not ready to throw in the towel yet. Right now I just want to beat Louisville on Saturday, and by the time March rolls around I believe the Cats will be right in the mix.

So 17/18 year old freshmen laden team, have reached their peak 12 games into the season, OP? Lord forbid, they could get better individually or as a team.

Matt Jones liked your post where you all but gave up on the team. That makes me feel better, given his terrible and recent record at prognosticating.

He guaranteed a title last year.

So Skal is the biggest bust in ten years, after a mere 11 games into a career that saw him removed from competitive hoops for almost a year?

Patience and broader perspective are two qualities you seem lacking in.

OP, you promise not post anymore when this team figures it out?

I second the motion if UK figures it out. OP, do you have the courage of your conviction or do you merely represent yet another message board prophet who talks big early on and then disappears in March?

UCONN wasn't a favorite and Duke wasn't a favorite last year. You never know and it's about peaking at the right time and an SEC conference game loss is good, as we learned last year.

If you go back and look at the 2013-2014 Wildcat team we lost 3 games in the OOC schedule. We lost to Baylor at home that year and everyone was down when we lost at home vs. Baylor. We were 12-6 in the SEC and lost twice to Arkansas and on the road to South Carolina that was 14-20 overall and 5-13 in the SEC. That was the same game that Coach Cal had multi T's and was thrown out of the game. It was pretty bad the next day and what the Media was saying how Coach Cal had lost that team and we just lost to a team that was going to lose 20 games. After that game I believe 90% of the fans thought that team which had a #8 seed would lose in 2nd round of tourney. We probably had the toughest draw out of all #8 & #9 seeds that year. We first had a tough game vs. Kansas State and won by 7, then undefeated Wichita State and that was one of the best games I watched during the 1st weekend. Then in the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 we had UL and Michigan and both teams were playing great ball at that time. We beat both UL and UM to advance to Final Four vs. Wiscosin and beat them by 1 and lost to UCONN in Championship game. Most Media and fans thought UK should have beat UCONN that night but we had an off night shooting. I will never give up on Coach Cal and Kentucky during March Madness with Coach Cal going to FInal Four 4 times and Elite 8 once out of 6 years. This team will be ready when March Madness comes around in March!

Well you can expect anything but reality is a completely different animal.
Reality was Aaron Harrison was crazy to say that UK was going to shock everyone and make a deep run. That club had double digit losses, they went to the NC game. Do you comprehend it is just December and we have a roster full of freshmen and sophomores, you don't know reality if it slapped you upside the face...

Just look at the Twins first year and that class. How many losses did we have?? And they made it to the Finals I think?? Yes Aaron won't be out there knocking down those shots at the end of games. But we have a couple others that might be able to do it as well.

Bobby Knight once said a team is what it is after ten games. What you see at that point is what you get.

That was before the OAD Era. Freshmen-led teams can't be assessed the same way veteran-led teams can, and it's because they're learning. UK literally has four or five rotation guys learning for the first time. It will take time. It will be ugly. It will also be exactly what Calipari said it would be.

Some of you simply weren't listening.

I guess Doc Brown must have fixed the flux capacitor on his 85 Delorean and took a couple posters to see how the dang seasons going to turn out since they know the future already.

That's not the real Matt Jones.

But there's no reason to be THAT pathetically sure we have no shot at a title. Have the '11 and '14 years taught us nothing? Cal's freshmen teams improve a lot over 4 months and make runs. Not saying this team WILL win a title or make the final 4. But why make a blanket sweep like that just because they're doing what we've seen 2 other of our teams do?

It's December 23rd. We aren't even in conference play yet with a whole new team, and we get these gems. OP, tell Cal to pack it up because we can't win it all this year, so what's the point? Let's get an early start on 2016-17.
