This is why the Harrisons were ranked that high in HS

Are they flashy players? Nah, they're not, and never will be. You look at players like Jameis Winston for Florida State in football for example. He's not the fastest player, he's not flashy, but he does what he needs to do to win games. Since March of last year, the Harrison twins have turned it up a few notches, and have done what it takes to win games. Do they have bad games? Of course, every player in the country does at some point, especially with the length of a basketball season and the nature of the game (ball goes in, or ball rims out sometimes).
People will bash the Harrisons because they were ranked as the top PG and SG out of high school, but in games like this, when teams are insanely hot, and they do everything that it takes to beat this team, the Harrisons do what it takes to win games.
Tyler Ulis wasn't in during crunch time, I'm sure a lot of media folk (Looking at you, Jeff Goodman) were licking their chops at the opportunity to see Kentucky lose while Andrew was on the floor, and Ulis was not. Cal said himself, they attacked Ulis, and they were winning. Andrew gives us a different look.
We needed everybody that played for a single second tonight to win this game, Ole' Miss played inspired basketball. I would bet anybody that they will not play that hard again for the entire season. But most of all, If the Harrisons weren't here to do the things that they did tonight, we would lose this game.
Everybody who doesn't believe in those two have 0 reasons as to why you shouldn't. They're winners, and they make sure that Kentucky is a winner.
Go Big Blue!

Andrew made some good plays tonight. But I would like to see him hit his freebies. We can not have our lead guard at the charity stripe in those clutch moments and everyone is sweating bullets. He needs to be automatic at the line.

This is where their experience comes through in the clutch. A coach-who-needs-not-be-named would say their toughness was what was needed today.

Tonight the Harrison's played great. Ulis did not have his best game scoring wise but still had a game leading 7 assists and '0' turnovers. Ulis did play in the clutch for us in the UofL game. The point is that both Harrison's, Ulis, and Booker will be needed this season. Also, we could have used Hawkins 'D' tonight, with all the crazy shots that Ole Miss hit.

Both Ulis and Booker played well for their 1st conference game. That said, we will celebrate the 'W' tonight & then on to A&M.

Rhavicc, that is one of the best posts I've ever read on this board and I've been on here many years. Without the Harrisons tonight - well, I don't even want to think about that. Great post, thank you.

We started out on Fire and looked like we would Win by 25 at the start of the game before Ole Miss showed up and started knocking down shots and 3 point shots. Ole Miss, yes lost their 1st game of the season to Char. Southern by 1 in ot. Then lost to WKU and Dayton on the road but there has been some games they looked impressive during the Non-Conference. I liked what Andy Kennedy has done with his lineup in the last couple of games and that was insert White into the starting 5 and it makes Ole Miss so much better team. Before last game Ole Miss went with Newby and had White come in as their 6th man and he did it well. He now has White, Summers, and Moody in as 3 guard lineup and they are so much better. The 3 tonight scored 65 out of their 86 points and their outside shooting was awesome esp. Moody! The 3 guards were 9/15 for 60% and 16/17 on the line for 94%. They have experience players as well and no more Henderson shooting bomb after bomb.I believe Ole Miss is a better team minus Henderson and look more like a team and not Henderson taking 30 shots a game. Ole Miss is one of the 4 or 5 better teams in the SEC with LSU, Ark, and Georgia of course after UK. They will win their share of SEC games this year and like Cal has said many times before SEC play we could have 5 or 6 teams in the Dance come March.

Funny thread....
Most all players will have good games and bad games and who they are is where that middle point is. Of the 2 Aaron is having better games and is becoming more consistent.
Andrew had a horrible game against UL and it was nice seeing him redeem himself.
I would venture to say that neither one will be the first point or shooting guard drafted like they were first in the rankings.

They are who they are no sense in piling more pressure upon them than they already have. They both showed veteran play tonight and that's what you want from guys who has been here for more than a year. Our freshmen looked great and pulled out the W against UL but they did not show up tonight. That's what freshmen do. The older you get the more consistent you become and only have an occasional bad game.

That would have been a great win for Andy and Ole Miss, I know it has to hurt to come so close to knocking off number 1 and coming a little short. Just wonder what would have panned out had Moody been able to finish, Cal said on post game on radio that had Moody been able to finish we would have lost.

Appreciate it! That's just how it is though. With the correct supporting case around them (And all great players need a good supporting cast. Basketball is a team sport), they find way to put things together to put their team in a position to win. I'm perfectly fine with having a point guard who isn't flashy, isn't incredible in any one thing, but is pretty good at everything he does on the court, and has the know-how to pull out games. The fact we have Tyler Ulis is huge for us as well, because he's an outstanding point guard, but there will be games like this where crazy athletes at the guard position can take advantage.
Same with Aaron Harrison. Will he always burn the nets up? No, but he does a lot of things well, and the only thing he does at an outstanding level is clutch-play, like his brother.
Hopefully they don't take all of this chatter about the "over-rated" talk to heart, because they win games better than any other pair of guards in the country. At the end of the day, that's what ever team wants.

Yes, this thread had to be posted. Ulis had a bad game offensively and struggled with Ole Miss' guards defensively. So should we slam him now? No of course not. Andrew played better tonight. You can't teach 6-6 210.

As I said after that Louisville game where Ulis played great and Andrew played poorly, I'm glad we have them both because we need both, and there will be games when one is having a bad night and the other picks him up. That's happened in 2 games in a row.

Fear of the name only increases fear of the thing itself.

Ole Miss played out of their minds against us. Their next two games are against USC and LSU, both on their home court.

Andrew and Aaron were both super efficient tonight. They combined for one turnover and 38 points on 21 shots.

We won't hear much more animosity towards the twins if Aaron's TS% continues to trend up. Over the course of a month, his TS% has improved from 42.1 to 48.4 through improved 3 point shooting. A hot shooting Harrison along with Ulis and Booker's strokes should prove to be a formidable core from the perimeter.

Besides one or two free throws tonight Andrew has been very clutch from the line. He's at 78% which is by far the best of the starters and may be better than everyone

Yep. Plus, his height didn't help things against the taller Ole Miss guards who were hitting ridiculous 3's. Cal needed someone taller to challenge them, and that's why Ulis sat as much as he did.

The Harrison's are what they are. Sometimes it means games like Louisville. Sometimes it means games like Ole Miss. Needed em tonight and they stepped up.

When Andrew attacks the rim, he is as good as anyone in college basketball... But he has to do this all the time.

The guards were significantly better, as Cal said, offensively.
Ulis' big flaw last night was it was a cold shooting night, albeit, he had a cold himself.
Still, Ulis had a fantastic game overall for the time he was on the floor, and I got pretty tickled when I seen him drive it in for the layup.
Sometimes there's not much you can do about a hot shooting team, except out-shoot them.
Ole' Miss came in and shot video game numbers on the top defense in the country. We may not see an offensive performance from another team like that again, then again, we may see something similar in a couple of weeks. It's reassuring when you have players like the Harrisons, who can knock down an insane number of threes at a high percentage in games where it counts, be dangerous anywhere on the floor, and mold into the kind of players that you need in crunch time.
They just need to retain this kind of confidence, and perform this way for the better part of the season.
Meanwhile, Ulis needs to take his medicine, get well, and come out playing like he always does, this Saturday.
