This is interesting. What do you all think?

Sounds like they about ready to see if they can break their ACC contract. Big10 would gladly take both getting a foothold in the southeast.

According to the end of this video around the 7:15 mark the cost of leaving for FSU would be around $120 million (this is the first time I have heard a number put on exiting) and that by leaving they would basically break even in 4 years if they left for the SEC or Big 10.

edit: according to another video the GoR adds potentially $600 million more to the above so FSU is probably stuck for a bit unless 7 other teams want out as well to give them the majority to break the agreement.

2 possibilities:

1)bluffing. Trying to scare the other 12 ACC teams into giving those 2 a bigger slice. But the hand they are holding is junk, can't possibly get out of GOR. But the bluff might work!

2)move orchestrated by ESPN. Creating an option for SEC expansion, if Fox & Big 10 add Oregon & Washington soon. Who owns the ACC tv? ESPN. Who owns all SEC starting 2024? ESPN. For them it is moving 2 assets to a better board.

Interesting times!

Yeah I couldn't believe what they were asking. The other teams should vote them into getting smaller amounts.

You might be on to something about ESPN breaking the contract and getting a few in the SEC. I think eventually some NC team, maybe teams get an invite, probably Virginia team too. WVU would jump at the chance.

Won't happen but I prefer Oregon/Washington to the SEC over Clemson/FSU.

I have to disagree. Clemson and FSU are already a recruiting presence in the southeast. Oregon and Washington have very little presence. If SEC took took Washington and Oregon the Big10 would be all over CU and FSU. The last thing any of the SEC wants is the big 10 playing down here every week and getting exposure the couldn't get otherwise.

Uh yeah, they’re about to be lapped financially by the SEC and B1G. That GOR deal they signed screwed them. They’re on the same TV deal since 2017 and it doesn’t end until 2036. This is what happens when you let dirty UNC crony’s run your conference.

Good point, I just think long term from this point forward Oregon/Washington will be the better programs. Like I said, won't happen, SEC too hung up on past history.

I think Clemson and Fla State makes sense for regional only. Not sure either gives us a new market for TV.

Virginia and UNC both give us more marketplace and gets us more of an SEC north territory. Then we have to think MIami (Would hate it) and maybe another Texas or Kansas market area (TCU or Kansas / Kansas State). I like 3 of those (Miami is the only one i would switch to Clemson). No matter what Big10 coming to southeast. Gonna be FSU/Cent Florida / Miami / Georgia Tech / Clemson / TCU / Texas Tech / Somebody like that. They want all 4 corners of the US for the market area.

Where they gonna go? Don’t see SEC wanting them over several other possibilities in NC and VA.

I’d like to see a healthy ACC. What fun is it? The SEC already owns the Little Ten. I’d also like to see the PAC 12 stay intact. It’s what makes college football unique from the NFL.

I agree, I love college football, but I don't like what's happening to it. ACC won a couple NC, put 2 teams in the playoffs a couple years ago, if you give them credit for ND. Now they are whining about being able to keep up. Will the BIG 12 even be considered P5? The 2 teams that played in their championship game were blown out. The other 3 conferences are solar behind the SEC and Big 10, but upsets happen, TCU beat Mich. I am not real excited about the new schedule model for SEC, but my vote don't count.

Those ACC teams are locked in and they are going nowhere. Their only hope for salvation would be convincing Notre Dame to commit to them full time. That would allow them to renegotiate the contract. ESPN has the contract for the SEC. They certainly aren't going to tear up the ACC contract just to pay more for a team they already control the rights to. The Big 10 might have an interest in a school like UNC or UVA, but do they offer anything more than what they could get from the current Pac 12/Big 12 schools they can already add without any of the costs and/or lawsuits?

ND doesn't have a reputation for being stupid, I see nothing positive for them being in the ACC.

On another note, headline of Louisville commit sets national HS 100m record. I was thinking this kid ran under 10.0, Matthew Boling a Georgia track guy ran the fastest under 19 100m at the time at 9.97. I read the article and the kid ran 10.35, which is fast but looks like he is running in sand with a sub 10 guy in the next lane. I know UK has at least one faster that that, UGA has 3 and a couple more close.

My point is do they just make stuff up and think their readers belief it?

Think they believe it?? They do…. Then after they tell the story to each other 5 times, the kid ran an 8.0 flat…. In flip fops…. While eating some chicken wings.

SEC and BIG go to 20 destroying the ACC would be glorious leaving U6 out in the cold. 4 divisions of 5 with SEC playoff interconference final four and two for the SEC crown. WOOT!!! Most will hate that but it would be fun.

If the ACC disbands at any point soon, the Big 12 will scoop UL and Pittsburgh up very quickly. Then you’d have old rivalries with WVU, Cincy, UL, and Pitt that would actually be fun to watch each year.

I think a big question is what would happen to Miami (FL). The SEC has no interest in them. Would the Big 10? They could also end up in the Big 12 as it would add another Florida team to have a rivalry with UCF.

Big 12 is sitting back and liking where they are even if they are 3rd wheel to the SEC and Big 10.

They could end up as a 20 member conference with:

Pitt-WVU-Cincy-UL-UCF-Miami-VT
KSU-KU-OSU-ISU
Baylor-TT-TCU-Houston
BYU-Utah-ASU-Zona-Colorado

Negotiating the contract would cost them at least 4 schools. They would instantly leave if they got out of the GOR agreement.

Big 12 is definitely positioned to pick up the very best leftovers of the inevitable shattering in both the ACC and Pac 12. So much so that they don't have to compromise taking in shaky non CFB relevant schools.

Agree, except SEC may want Clemson. I, too, would prefer the SEC get into VA and NC. Get VA Tech and NC and the SEC actually expands its footprint and viewership which brings in additional value, financially and athletically.

If some how the ACC teams manage to break their contract and leave the ACC, I don't think the Big10 or SEC stay at 16. I think the SEC will go after FSU and Clemson plus at least 1 team from NC and VA. I don't think we want Duke or Wake. Big 10 would love to ad ND, Miami, plus a NC and VA team. Small private schools with small enrollments could end up in a lesser division in football but still play big boy basketball.

If Clemson and FSU want out the LT essentially need to make deals for 8 teams to move and get paid as well. It would have to be airtight too. Of those schools:

Top Tier
Clemson, FSU, UVA, UNC

Next Tier
UL, Pitt, VT, GT, NC St, Miami

Bottom Tier
Duke, BC, Syracuse, Wake

So you have to guarantee 8 of those schools find a place that improves on the ACC. The SEC and the Big 10 only want those from the top tier in reality. Then there is ND who could throw a wrench on it all.

Are the Conferences not reaching the point of getting so large that we don't even really have conferences anymore?

While one can list Big 12 potential future additions, the only thing the Big 12 is “liking” is that they are in a marginally better position than the ACC and the PAC.

When your conference’s potential list of 20 includes 5 recent G5 participants, and only one national title since the advent of the BCS/Playoffs, it hardly reeks of inherited wealth.

But, gosh-a-mighty, imagine the national excitement that will be created with weekly matchups of the likes of Central Florida vs. Iowa State, Kansas vs. Pitt, and West Virginia vs. Utah.

Can the SEC and the likes of Notre Dame survive such glamorous competition?

If not, the SEC needs to add Umass and East Carolina to bring us into closer competition with those potential Big 12 jumbos!!

Probably so, but all 3 of the other P5 schools want in on the $ being made by the SEC and BIG, but don't have a product that generates that much interest. I just don't care much for where we seem to be heading.

I wonder if things like re-alignment, NIL start eliminating some the current power conference schools from competing is good for the sport overall???

Yes

it is better if programs not serous about competing and who constantly want to drag the sport down so they aren't left behind go away.

my love of CFB won't be hurt if Northwestern, Vandy, Boston College, Stanford, the MAC, etc go to a lower level. And the sport is programs who truly want to compete. who don't use football to cash a TV check to fund 20 other revenue-losing sports. who reinvest football generated cash into paying football coaches and support staff and facilities and player development.

How many is that? 30? 40? 50? I'm betting we all find out in about 10 yrs. Direct university pmt to players is inevitable. Those that want the best football programs will gather together, and shed off the archaic ncaa.

Not sure if this is true but I was told a few months ago that Sankey told a coach at UK - not Stoops - that he could make one phone call and take any team in the ACC he wanted, any time he wanted to do it.

If this is true, who do you think the one phone call would go to, ESPN?

I assumed he meant he could call any team in the acc he wanted to join and they would accept. Never really thought about the espn angle but maybe that’s what he meant

The Big10 is exclusively schools that are members of the Association of American Universities. Neither FSU nor Clemson are AAU members. The only current AAU members in the ACC are Duke, Georgia Tech, and UNC. SEC members of the AAU are Texas A&M, Florida, Vanderbilt and future SEC member Texas.

Nebraska isn’t a part of AAU. And ND isn’t either if they were to join.
