a VERY big day in UK football history. Win tonight and suddenly we become real contenders. First off-we will have a long-time monkey off our backs--the losing streak to Florida would be finally over. Second, we would remain undefeated for the season, and third, we would be starting at 2-0 in the SEC east with a chance to go up 3-0 the following week, and we would become legitimate contenders for the East title.

Instead of overplaying a very big day in Kentucky football history, I believe the smart play here is to recognize 2015, 2016, 2017 as big seasons in Kentucky football history. No matter how pumped some people get, it is never about 1 game. We don't "suddenly" become anything by winning today. It is a process, and it is about recruiting momentum. If today is a really big day in Kentucky football history, then so was November 24, 2011. The big picture of Kentucky football in the Mark Stoops tenure is our recruiting momentum in Ohio, Florida, Georgia. The results will not be sudden, but they will be dramatic.

With the insane amount of talent we're going to have visiting for the game tonight it could be the biggest recruiting day in the history of UK football. We've never had so many high end recruits in Lexington before not to mention the ones that will be watching on TV. A win tonight could kick up the momentum of the program another notch but blue is right. One game won't mean we've made it to the big leagues or send us back to the dark ages. It's going to take sustained success over SEC teams to really break through. You have to start somewhere though and tonight could show that we've started turning a corner

This is said about multiple games every year. Upcoming games will be equally as important. Next week, we play the reigning SEC East champs. There will be some important recruits at today's game, but most of them are already committed to Kentucky. The most important aspect of recruiting has been the momentum Stoops is establishing in Ohio, Florida, Georgia. The most important thing about beating Florida would be the way it could effect the thinking of a handful of Florida prospects considering Florida and Kentucky. Every SEC game is critical. It would be great to beat Florida, but the Missouri, Auburn, and Tennessee games in Lexington and the Georgia game in Athens are every bit as important if not more so.

Well, you guys are both right. If we win today, we end the embarrassing losing streak to Florida, and we will be in the thick of things in the SEC East race. Suddenly the rest of the SEC games on our schedule (except for maybe at UGA) look very winnable. Ending that damn streak, means about 10 times as much to me as a fan, as winning another Music City or Liberty Bowl would. But, I understand the bowl game would mean much more to the program as a whole. Hopefully the streak doesn't affect the coaches/team as much as it does the fan base, because they are not responsible for the streak. Florida is not going to be down forever though, and we've got them at our place with a legitimate chance to win. So from a fan's perspective, we need to get this done tonight. So, no question that would qualify as a huge day in UK football history.

But in a larger sense (apologies to Mr. Lincoln for stealing one of his lines), it isn't just about one day, or one game. So BD is right about that. Next season is really the season where I thought we could realistically make major noise in the conference anyway.

But wtf, it's a game. So I say let's get excited, as long as the fans keep it in the proper perspective if we lose, and not get down on the team. Because we are definitely making progress, and it seems to be starting to show on the field. But then again, we did barely scrape by a Sun Belt team in week one (a team BD told us all Summer we wouldn't have any trouble with), and maybe SC is just not good this year. So, other than ending the SEC road losing streak, we really haven't accomplished much yet. A win tonight would be a huge accomplishment no matter how you look at it.

The thing is,now we have more than a puncher's chance to beat UF.We can line up and if we play well (toward the upper end of our ability)we can win.I'm not saying it will be easy but with a good effort and avoiding huge mistakes we can put ourselves in a position to win this one.

Yes, the same can be said for several games that remain on the schedule but how we handle our business after the big win last week will tell us something about this team

LOL! I don't think Coach Stoops is 1 tiny bit embarrassed by anything that happened before he got here. As is obvious here every day, not everyone in the fan base sees things the same. Many of us don't think this game is anymore important in particular as the end of a losing streak than November 24, 2011. I don't believe this game is more important than Missouri next week, or Auburn, or Tennessee. Every SEC game is crucial now. And I don't think it matters at what point in the season future games look winnable to you. All of them have looked winnable to Stoops and our players since last April. That's what counts.

I agreed with you on the point that all of the games are big and that no game is individually bigger than the whole season is. It can't be argued that this isn't the biggest recruiting day in UK football history though. We have many of our biggest targets for 2016, 2017, and 2018. More talent than has ever been on campus at one time. The staff went all in on this game from a recruiting standpoint. If our recruiting reaches new heights this game will be the one that these young players will say opened their eyes to UK football. It's going to be the best atmosphere since Stevie got loose. We're planting the seed for our next 3 recruiting classes

While I agree that EVERY game is important, I still say we have a chance tonight to make a historical turn. I fully understand that this program been making progress since Stoops got here, and win or lose tonight won't make or break the season or the program. I am simply arguing that if we win tonight a different persona begins to surround the UK program. The Doubters in the football world are going to begin looking at us in a different light. Recruits and fans alike who have stood aloof will take a more serious look. It IMO is a very important opportunity for us. The winds are shifting in Lexington. Wake up SEC. Kentucky Rising!

The thing for me is that we SHOULD BE favored in this game and would be if not for the history. Everyone saying "Kentucky has a chance...Kentucky CAN....Kentucky needs to..." has it backward. I know the history and I don't care. THIS IS OUR GAME THAT WE ARE SUPPOSED TO WIN. Not the other way around.

GO CATS!

why are you getting your panties in a wad over these comments? he agreed with you also

Huge game for all of the obvious reasons, most of them already posted here. But, I also believe this keeps the momentum and hype up heading into the Mizz game next weekend.

Past two years the Missori game has been 'boring' to me. Don't know if it has been style of play or what, but we need as much hype heading into that game that we can get. What better way than having a chance to extend our SEC East lead? GBB!

i bought my dad an oldest nephew tickets to today's game the day they went on sale. can't be there myself for it, since it's 2500 miles away, but they're on their way down and ready for the big win. i just feel like it could be special. Dad was there when UK upset Georgia and they carried the goal posts out of the stadium, and he talks about it often as being the best live event he's ever been to. hopefully, today with his grandson, UK can deliver another good memory for him.

i'm not even that big a college football fan, never have been. but Mark Stoops and his staff, along with the exciting talent he's brought in, have me sucked in. could be the biggest statement win of Stoops' career, until the next chance to make a statement. go big blue.

To act or say that the Florida game is "just another game" is rediculous.
It is the longest current losing streak in the nation from one D1 team to the other.
It needs stopping and it needs stopping before it reaches 30.
