If the FBI is truly conducting a sweeping and far-reaching investigation, when criminal proceedings begin to happen, there may be a lot of folks "singing" for immunity. A lowering tide can sink a lot of boats ....

Anything COULD happen. But based on what we know HAS happened I see no reason for Kentucky to be concerned.

I think evey fan of every major D1 school should be concerned. You don't mess with one and dones and not encounter some dirtbags along the way.

Should the investigation mushroom, there could be spillover into football and maybe other sports. This could become an epic investigation and quite sobering for all of college sports.

i posted this in another thread

i think the FBI has hit the hardest it will hit unless something else huge is found
i do think some less severe crimes will be uncovered
i think they sent a very clear signal that the shoe companies, corrupt coaches and rogue agents have been put on notice

i have always said that it is not the top tier schools you worry about
it is the 2nd and 3rd tier schools that wanna be top tier

I think this is probably going to be the biggest scandal in college athletics history.

If basketbal is jacked up, can you imagine what football looks like? It would dwarf it.

I'm thinking the fighting Emmerts may not feel so good about job security knowing this went down on his watch?

If UK was involved in ANY way, the media would be all over it. We are the most scrutinized school in college basketball, Cal is the most scrutinized coach.

IMHO, Cal's network is ironclad. Our kids KNOW they will be taken care of, so why demand anything before they come to UK?

However, this could effect many more schools and NCAA Basketball will definitely feel the repercussions.

UK's biggest crime will be that they got a player that asked for money.

But U.K. Or Cal did not provide them with any.

Everything for U.K. Will be external issues with no affiliation to cal or the staff.

That's my prediction on Worst case scenario.

This is possible. But much like the AD rumors nothing was found to be there. Wall was investigated and forced to repay some money. I actually think the Cats are clean. I do NOT think Nike is clean, but I think UK and our compliance department know that UK is under a microscope. They also know that EVERYONE would love to nail Cal. I think UK is safe.

Assistants are under great pressure to produce recruits. I certainly hope we aren't involved but u never know when these guys that are accused start singing.

Yep.
Tho I could see this opening up things and maybe some big hitting in the future, but for now I think this is it. We might hear something major months or years down the road as it's clear they are still investigating, but for now this is it.

Also I agreed about 2nd and 3rd tier schools. They are the ones with the most to gain from cheating. They are the ones that feel it's necessary to cheat to keep up with the upper tier.

To me, when a top recruit goes to say Miss St, that throws a bigger flag.

I think UK, Kansas, Duke etc etc will be fine

Hope Sandy Bell has been earning her paycheck! If not I might have to delete the Twitter for fear of payback from all the trash I've been talking the last 48hrs.

If it does not exist already, I can easily some kind of form, affidavit, declaration, etc ... that essentially says something like:

"Under penalty of perjury, I have neither received, nor been offered, any cash, property, guarantees or other improper or illegal inducement(s) to sign with ___________________" ...... filed with the NCAA, Department of Justice, etc..., if not the FBI, going forward. Coaches would be required to sign, also.

The lawyers here might comment regarding such a control procedure that is in black and white, crystal clear.

A lot has been written about this here, so I won't repeat everything. But Calipari is a tireless micro-manager of recruiting. He has no motive to cheat because he can succeed admirably playing fair. He does the ground work of meeting recruits' families, coaches, checking their backgrounds. And he has demonstrably backed off major recruiting targets for no obvious reason -- at least before yesterday. To me, that adds up to due diligence to avoid getting blindsided. And it means Kentucky has no motive to have participated in the crime.

Compare that with Pitino -- out of touch on recruiting, but desperate to catch Kentucky. A coach in a system that oozed sliminess. A guy willing to turn a blind eye to anything -- even hookers in the dorm. A guy who asked no questions when SOMEBODY comes to him and says this 5-star you never recruited wants to play with you and will sign right now. You see the difference here?

I don't think Cal needs to, nor has a motive nor do I think he has. My main concern is any assistant or any relationship someone has with someone else that could burn us. That goes for a player and his family outside of our own control like Camby types (granted he was already on campus).

Could be big enough to change the entire sport, or even college athletics. Having schools take these deals from competing shoe companies just provides framework for shady dealings. I don't think anything is off the table over the next few years: NCAA disbarring, changes to NBA minimum age, the extent of shoe deals with schools..

Whatever it is, you can mark this date down as it pertains to the future of college athletics. Like, SAT analogy time: Pearl Harbor is to World War 2 as *Blank* is to Emmert jumping off a bridge.

No assistant coach gives a deal to a recruit without the head coach KNOWING EVERYTHING about it!!

Regardless of what Slick Rick says!!

If it ends up being far reaching and implicates a whole lot of schools, then if we are involved in some capacity, then we are just in the same boat as all of the other programs keeping up with the Jones’s. The sting will hurt for everybody, us included. The reason it stings Louisville so much harder is because those clowns were ballsy enough to pull a stunt like this WHILE ALREADY ON PROBATION!! And the fact that this was the tip of the iceberg for everything else going on at that cesspool that was run like an organized crime syndicate.
