Thinking about Kansas . . .

In anticipation of the Missouri game coming up on Wednesday, I checked out how Missouri has done, and I saw that their list of “wins” includes only a bunch of nobody’s, but they beat Auburn. Clearly, that doesn’t speak well for the ‘Cats, since we blew a 10-point lead in losing to Auburn !

As poorly as the ‘Cats have played this season (setting aside the Duke game), I have been shuddering to think about having to play Kansas. But then, I started looking at Kansas, and I find that Kansas just lost to Oklahoma State. Then I looked at what Oklahoma State has done – sort of like I just looked at Missouri – and I find that Oklahoma State is 10-9 overall, and 2-5 in the Big 12, and that they have wins over Tennessee-Martin, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Towson State, Long Beach State, Minnesota, Longwood, Missouri-Kansas City, TCU, and . . . [ drum roll ] . . . KANSAS ! ! !

So, my thesis is – the ‘Cats are no worse than the Jayhawks, based upon the indescribably weak teams to whom each has lost ! ! ! Now, how’s that for searching for a light at the end of the tunnel ! ! ! Let us just hope that the light at the end of the tunnel is not the proverbial oncoming train.

Well the main thing is we're playing them at their place. Had this game been played on a neutral court I would feel much better about our chances.

Kansas coming off a loss where they were outscored by 20 in the 2nd half.

They'll be ready Saturday. The key is keeping Alex out of foul trouble. He needs to let Perry shoot over him and not pick up ticky-tack fouls.

I agree would be great if Lee had 9-10 rbs 8pts and 3 blocks, he does that our chances of winning go way up. And he is due for a good game, been rebounding decently but needs some run out and lobs.

I believe we win ,they have no solution for Ulis and Murray,If we get a fair whistle we win going away.

If only we were playing these guys.
Somebody needs to photoshop Perry Ellis' face on the dude with the Mullet. Which mullet, you ask? Pick one.

Kansas is a tough place to play, you know going in that we will get the shaft from the officials(everyone here worries about Poythress and cheap fouls, but Ulis will get stuck with 2 cheap fouls if he comes within 5 feet of a Kansas player) I think we can play with them but probably won't get the chance to do so.

This is my fear too. I watched the Texas game this weekend and when the white PF for Texas got hot hitting 2 or 3 threes and was containing Ellis on D, he got two quick fouls, neither of which he touched anyone and was sent to the bench. Same happened to one of Texas' guards later.

Once a team gets up on Kansas at home, the fouls come raining in.

No doubt. The only one stopping you is the refs.
Whether you like it or you don't like it the officials out there are more of a factor in games than they should be.KU is a good team but they get a lot of help at home.

And I'm sure you have evidence to support that opinion, right?

Have you never watched a KU home game? Put it on a list of things to do,you'll learn much:sunglasses:

not going away but i actually agree these two give us an edge.

if you could pick any guard over the last several years to come into this environment and control the game for uk its ulis.

if you could pick any guy to go off with no pulse and give you 20-25 it's murray. sounds crazy but i think the schedule fell in our favor having ulis playing like an all-american right now. i think it'll be a close game, and we could win.

Kansas is 6th out of the 10 Big XII teams in number of FTAs. Nice try! Only OSU, Baylor, Iowa State & OU have attempted fewer. WVU has attempted the MOST in a landslide. 569 FTAs w/ K-State w/ the next most at 478 FTAs.

KU OFTEN has fewer FTAs at & more PF's at home. They don't get home-cooking like opposing fans would have you believe.

Kansas doesn't shoot FTs when an opposing star gets 2 quick fouls. Where is KU in the big 12 on opponents FTs attempted?

I don't recall mentioning free throw attempts.

I talked about two phantom calls that got a hot shooter out of the first half when Kansas was getting run on early.

When will people learn free throws attempted don't equal a favorable or unfavorable whistle. There are too many mitigating factors like pace of play, style, physicality of the other team, etc...

I again state that the refs got a hot shooter for Texas out in under 5 minutes after he drained a couple threes. Also, this is my fear for our team. I can see Ulis or Murray getting a couple early joke calls and having to sit a lot.

This is always how it ends: some dude saying "Come on bro open your eyes can't you see???"

Calipari's pre-game speech:

Carry On My Wayward sons,
There'll be victory when you are done
We'll drive them to the Point of Know Return
There'll be nothing left of them but Dust in the Wind.

He'd get a lot of blank looks, but hey... I'd love him for it.

Kansas will be ready to play I am sure Bill (Mr impermissible benefits ) Self will be whining I know !!! It should be a close game but I do see foul trouble being a problem for us. I was really surprised as was Self last night when Mason would drive to the basket and throw himself into a defender and no foul was called !! It happened three times I can remember, I thought then who does the dude think he is Grayson Allen ? He might should have thrown his head back when he did it too , maybe that would help lol !

Yep. This will be the toughest environment any of our kids have played in. Would say the same if they were coming east to play in Rupp. Last two times we played at KU: 55 point loss, 27 point loss. BTW, didn't realize until I saw it at KSR, but in that 27 point loss game, we were ranked and they were not. Just assumed (didn't remember) that it would be the other way......
