First of all, I'm not laying our struggles this game solely on Towles. Obviously, the defense got gashed and gave up a ton more point/yards than they should have. That being said the offense certainly sputtered and missed passes were a huge part of it.
The UK receivers have gotten a ton of praise this offseason....one of the quotes I remember Towles making was that all he had to do was "get it into their zip code".
Well....last night we saw the result of that. The receivers certainly did their part....but Towles missed most of his passes. Getting it "into their zip code" isn't going to cut it.
Unfortunately, I think this unfounded confidence was the result of a great receiving corps abusing our worst defensive unit (the corners) in practice. Our passing success last night seemed to only come when ULL tried to jam them at the line and Towles could throw go routes over the top.
