They need to sit Dane Key

More concerning to me was that he was sulking and not finishing plays. I like the kid and think he can still be great but something needs to happen to get him out of this funk he’s been in the last two games.
Agreed… to an extent. Give the young man a break. He will make us smile several times this season. I really believe that.

Agree he'll make us smile, but that ball was catchable every day of the week. Even if there was mustard on it, Key didn't have to fully extend and got both hands on it. He's on scholarship at an SEC school and he needs to hold on to those. I'm happy to give him some leniency, but the drops are concerning.

Dropped balls and what’s worse is horrible horrible effort. I hope he figures it out.
Sit BB, KEY and Burton all for the first Q next game. Not like we going to put up any points in the first Q anyways make a statement that you will work hard and give maximum effort of you can sit right here.

The chemistry between Leary and Key has not developed.
Don't know how much of that is Coen.
Tayvion is definitely Leary"s go to right now and he and Coen seem to be in love with the "home run " throw to Brown.
I could actually see Dingle"s targets going up after tonight and I'm sure Brown got a confidence boost after the TD catch even though it was called back.
Apparently Porter is not ready yet.
I see Crowdus in the portal at seasons end.

Kattus got the ball tonight. Effective. Key will get going. Too good not to. Just has to catch a few to gain Leary’s trust. Robinson has made plays

Key and Brown were all the talk going into the season. Tayvion Robinson was sort of the forgotten man. Now Robinson is going to command more attention from defenses which should open up opportunities for Key and Brown down the line.

A few runs could've gained some yardage if the WRs had kept their blocks. I'm not sure what's going on with the receiver room right now but it might've contributed to Coen's little stay in the hospital (completely joking... sorta).

Key is rounding off his routes coming out of his break which is a HUGE NO-NO!!! He is also mis-reading the DB and cutting short some routes, which is the reason for 2 interceptions by Leary the last 2 games. With all of the hoopla surrounding Dane over the Summer, everyone expected and will expect MORE from him than we have seen these last 2 games.

The good part about that is he's ONLY a Sophomore. But there is still enough tape on him for good DC's to make it harder for him IF he doesn't tighten up his routes and catch the ball with his hands. He alligator armed a couple of passes this game AND last. I don't care how hard the ball comes at him, he MUST catch it. They work with a JUGS machine DAILY to prepare them for hard passes.

Hope he comes around because this team REALLY needs him to succeed to reach the top level.

I was at the first two games, and Key and Brown were not getting any separation in single coverage. Can’t imagine they’ll get open against SEC DBs unless something changes. I think it’s plain and simple... both are a little overrated

Unfortunately we didn’t get any veteran WRs from the portal. We have no backups to put in. Nothing but freshman behind them and Dekel who they clearly don’t trust.

BTW, I did not start this thread as a bash Key post. The kid is super talented and we need him. It was really me suggesting something needs to happen to get the effort level where it needs to be. Drops happen especially with young receivers but not finishing routes and sulking lead to even more drops because it means his heads not in it. I really believe his issue is all between the ears right now. I just want the kid back we saw last year fighting for balls and catching everythint.

Yea, we’re thin at WR, and our young guys haven’t proven anything yet. It feels like Key and Brown got caught up in all the preseason hype about their potential. They gotta prove it on the field, and hopefully they do…

Brown, I don’t know, his hands are awful. That kid has a ways to go as a WR, but he’s a dangerous weapon if we can get him the ball in space.

Key has great hands, and I’m not too worried about him.

Coen has had a role in their struggles also. Brown needs the ball in space more so than on deep routes. Key needs more comeback routes and they both need more slants.

What needs to happen, and will happen, is more targets for Anthony Brown-Stephens, Khamari Anderson, and Izayah Cummins. You do not bench a player like Dane Key but you help him learn the importance of the team by reducing his playing time until he earns it back. He is from a football family and he will get the message. If he does not, then his Dad will explain it to him.

If I was Coen I would have Leary go to Key early and often Saturday. Just got to let him catch a ball or two and maybe that jump starts him. If that doesn't work I would start giving more of his snaps to Crowdus. He's a good player and if he's a better option right now he should be out there more.
