its been rare that UK Football has hired one that called his own plays.
In recent history you only have Hal Mumme, Brent Pease, and Neal Brown who were proven OC's who called there own plays. Hal Mumme and Brent Pease had really good offenses, Neal Brown was in a building stage of his offense, and was on the right track.

Eddie Gran is just the 4th proven OC who called his own plays that we've had. Joker wasn't proven but turned out to be good, Ron Hudson and Shannon Dawson were OC's who didn't really run the offense.

So with Mark Stoops handing over all control of the offense to Eddie Gran and having Darin Hinshaw, one of the best QB coaches in the nation, on staff and fully running the offense, everyone should be excited about this one.....

I am very happy we ended up with Gran and Hinshaw. IMO, getting those two to come here was the absolute best case scenario. I think this hire may ultimately prove to be the decision that saves Stoops own job as UK head coach. Yes, I have full confidence in Gran and Hinshaw and think their presence will provide the spark to turn this thing around and get things back on track.

I agree. This has the potential to be huge for us. I really hope this gets us over the hump like I think it will.

Wonder where all the haters are today?

In addition, I expect that recruiting will improve.

For sure. Not only are Gran and Hinshaw superb coaches, they are also outstanding recruiters with ties to areas we really need to be heavily recruiting. In fact, if you look at what Hinshaw did at Tennessee and what Gran did at FSU and Auburn, you could make the argument these guys are elite recruiters. Gran has made the Rivals.com Top 25 recruiter list before. I'm not sure about Hinshaw, but if he hasn't made the list before I'm sure he has come very close. Between these two guys and Marrow, we've got some heavy hitters on this coaching staff when it comes to recruiting. If we can show some signs of progress on the field, I think we will start reeling in some monster classes that are top 15 or even better.

Speaking of recruiting, anyone know if Gran and/or Hinshaw were recruiting somebody for Cincinnati that might come to UK now?

Trace Christian, a bigger sized 2017 RB from FL is one.

I'd guess that, for the most part, they will be after bigger fish @ UK than they were after @ Cincy.

I'm really glad that stoops was able to hire Gran and Hinshaw. I'm excited for next season! Got some good recruits coming in, excellent additions to the coaching staff, and some good players returning.

I agree with everything posted on here. This was much better than I thought we could do and may well pull Stoops' job out of a flat spin. I also think this is a home run hire.

UC lost several number of their best recruits in the last few weeks. May have been due to how their season went downhill late. Net, doubt their lot offers much for us.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that Hinshaw was once rated a top ten recruiter by Rivals or some other site. I'm cool with that.

We shall see about the "handing over all control" thing. For me no more listening to the talk and buying in until I see the walk...

A lot to like about these two hires, but it still comes down to do we have a QB to run the offense and get the ball to where it needs to be on target and on time
