The last 2 minutes of regulation

I've been saying it for years but we need the officials to answer for these calls. One of the obvious ones that always has bugged me was plays like the one the called out on Oweh at the end. Oweh has the ball and the UT player volleyball spikes it out of bounds. Did it actually touch Oweh last? Make the refs answer questions about overturning that call and we will have them on record and can get it fixed rule wise going forward.

Impossible to tell whether he touched it or not.. Why they didn't go with the initial call is mystifying.
Probably, but you can't push off like he did.

Thats the problem. There wasn't enough evidence to overturn. But the officials didn't want to get Boo'd so they gave it to Tennessee. That quite literally almost cost us the game, which would have been a Q1 win taken away, we'd be 11th in the SEC, and probably nearing being unranked. That one call could actually be the difference between being a 5-seed and a 7-seed. That's why officiating matters. We played just well enough to eek out a win, and that's what matters and what should be reflected.

The rotation of the ball says Tennessee hit it last, it was consistent with a ball coming off his fingertips when swatting down at the ball. If it had rolled off Oweh's arm the rotation would have been different. I knew when they were taking so long, it was going to Tennessee. I watched it 4 or 5 times, it come of the Vols player last. What about Brea just losing the ball out of bounds with nobody around him, we can't do that kind of stuff. we were lucky to win in self-destruction mode the last two minutes. I'm proud of them for winning under that kind of pressure though.

These reviews are out of hand, teams can burn their time outs early cause they know they’re getting 5-10 free time outs under 2 mins to go. And why are those calls any more important under 2 mins to go vs the calls throughout the game?? Those calls could lead to points and change the game before it ever gets to 2 mins to go, I know we don’t want them reviewing crap the entire game but it’s a foul in the first minute then it’s a foul in the last minute type thinking.

Monitor reviews need to have some type of time limit. If you can’t overturn it in 45-60 seconds of review, when everyone at home already sees the call, then move on with the call on the floor. These monitor reviews are getting out of hand and taking way too much time.
They literally wanted it to be off of Oweh so as not to face backlash from the Orange contingency and finally just decided that it was close enough to give it to them. The ball didnt change directions. You CANNOT change the call on the floor there. It was absolutely criminal.

Probably as uncomfortable as Ive ever been watching a game. The two long reviews on Oweh took forever.

Did he touch the ball ?

Wasnt he fouled before he pushed off on the 2nd review?

My blood was running hot.
He was fouled by their little guard on his drive to the basket when we had the shot clock violation, he was fouled (causing the ball to go out of bounds) on that review, and he was fouled bringing the ball up the court before hitting the defender in the face.

Speaking of monitor reviews we have been hosed on a goaltending no call for the 2nd game in a row. The rule is if it's called a goaltend they can go back and look at it during a dead ball later and overturn if necessary but if it's not called during action then it can't be reviewed. The last 2 games we've had an obvious goaltend they didn't call live and therefore couldn't go back and review. It would seem to me the refs would be told if it's even remotely close call it and then overturn it during a dead ball timeout if it's the wrong call.

I was so mad at Brea . It just bounced right in his hands with no pressure around and he cant catch it . You are right, we were in " play not to lose" mentality and got away with it .

Those last few minutes took years off my life. My Apple Watch was telling me to breath because of my heartrate. I came into the game last night with low expectations. As the game kept progressing and we kept leading, I did not want them to give away a golden opportunity to steal that game without two starters.

In continuation... the other issue I have is that some people here will say "well so what if the call was bad, kentucky didn't execute after so we can't blame the officias".

For a second, let's just assume that this turnover by Tennessee cost them the game. So therefore, Kentucky played well ENOUGH to come away with the win. Not perfect. But they did what was needed and capitalized on a costly Tennessee mistake. So why should the official make the wrong call, and force Kentucky to win the game AGAIN? Thats my giant problem with the officials and how they control things. A team should never have to win the game twice. And it's not fair to Kentucky to ask them to try and win the next 2 minutes, because of a bad call that essentially gave Tennessee another chance.

That bad call basically was the officials saying (whether on purpose or just incompetance): "youre going to have to win this again". That's what drives me nuts.

The last 2 minutes was straight game altering/cheating collegiate refs at their worst.

1. Oweh out of bounds....The ball is dangling in mid air....and then flies out of bounds as UT player smacks at it while Oweh's hands were going toward the ball in opposite direction....that wasn't very inconclusive.

2. The Oweh offensive foul.....Oweh is dribbling, #15 for Tenn is hand checking, grabbing his waist and in Oweh's space... and when Oweh spins, his elbow hits his face....Tennessee players flops and gets a call. Going to review, why can't the mulitple fouls by #15 be as reviewed as an elbow?

It's all just silly how college allows refs to dictate
