Sorry, this is going to be a rant. Fair warning....

I have always had a pretty stringent policy of avoiding national sports talk radio shows. They typically are unlikable windbags that thrive on abrasive opinions. That being said, my job requires me to be behind the wheel for a good portion of my day and after the Kentucky block on 1080 goes off at noon, I'm stuck trying to decide what to listen to while I'm driving. I've given up on music because everything I like Ive heard a million times and I dont want to listen to the rest and I cant stand political shows or NPR so I decided to give The Herd a try since it is a 3 hour long show starting at noon.

After listening to his show for about 4 months now, I've come to the conclusion that his show is un-listenable. The man talks about the same subject day in and day out....for three hours!!! Before the Super Bowl he talked incessantly about Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, Tom Brady, and Jimmy Garropolo.I swear I heard him use the phrase "He throws a beautiful ball...tight spiral" a thousand times.

Then the Super Bowl happened and once he was off the Andy Reid finally won his super bowl high, he's been on the Lebron Vs. Giannis train (who's the real MVP) for the last month!! Its the same argument over....and over....and over...and over... He even had Doug Gottleib cover for him the last two days....same BS. I cant understand how a nationally syndicated radio show can spend the entirety of its three hours predominantly on one subject each and every day and not be yanked off the air.

Anyone else feel this way about that show, and does he EVER talk about college sports? I vaguely remember him talking about the college football national championship game, but it was mainly just a segway into whether or not he'd draft Joe Burrows with the first pick.

I only have the opportunity to listen to him about once a week so I don't notice the repetitiveness as much. He does tend to cover the same topics the same way a lot, though. For my money, The Dan Patrick Show is the only one of national variety that I care to listen to. It's funny, has great guests, covers a bunch of different topics. Well worth my time.

He wasn’t a fan of John Wall at al back in 2010 draft days. He can suck my root because I never liked him anyways but that was the final straw with me.

I listened to him when he took over Tony K’s spot on ESPN radio and he couldn’t hold a candle to Tony. All he does is try to spark debates and infuriate people but yeah it’s a tough listen for longer than 15 minutes.

Bring back the Fabulous Sports Babe. No one on ESPN other than the Around the Horn guys and Korn-holer/I can't remember the guy's name is worth listening to.

NBA ranks right up there with elementary school girl's bball as far as enjoyability....and espn guys are big nba guys.

I'll admit, I gave the guy more time than he deserved, but at this point, I couldn't listen to another second of his show.

When you have time to listen to radio (lot of TV also) for hours, it is repetition that you'll be hearing. Might be another voice but the same stuff. Maybe try audio books? I have my listening habits. I move around a lot but none of my moves land on ESPN radio talk or TV... Those guy got nothing to say better than what I read here....

Obviously Colin is very good and one of the most talented sports talk radio personalities in the world. Because if he wasn't, he would be hosting a local AM show in a place like Louisville vs. being paid millions per year by a national tv/radio network. He knows his audience and completely understands his ratings and target demographics. The topics he covers are strategically chosen based on those factors. It also takes a lot of special skill to be able to pull of a multi-hour talk show all by yourself. That is why most sports talk shows feature two hosts.

Get Sirius and listen to Mad Dog sports radio. Miles better than the shit that’s on for free.

Hold on you think the NBA sucks and college is awesome right now? The products are not even comparable and I’m a college guy. The product today is horrible in college.

Tony K is one of the best if you listen to his podcast since he’s not National now. But Dan P is my favorite.

He was perfect for the previous assumptions of entertainment, that people are constantly changing channels and tuning in and out. Now that people are autistic leaving whatever on while looking at their phone, his format makes no sense.

Not exactly. IMO, bball in general is far behind the other main sports (CFB, MLB, NFL). My only interest in cbb is only if Ky has a shot at hanging the banner.
As far as bball goes, winning the NC in college exceeds winning the Olympics, nba, etc..., but, as I said, only if Ky wins it.

NBA specifically and bball in general is a weak image of the game as it was designed to be played. Beating, banging, not calling the game by the book has made the game incredibly difficult to watch.
