The freshmen are the real deal.

Wagner was very good today. Edwards shots weren’t falling but he rebounded well. Shepard missed all his shots but did everything else very well (great court awareness and hustled hard on defense). Dillingham had couple good pull-up makes, but thought he was a little out of control and not setting up teammates enough. Burks had a good lob dunk off OOB play.
A good first game (that doesn’t count), and they will all get better.

I thought the veterans looked the best.

They looked great(vets).

I don't think we end up winning it all last year, but if we had Tre Mitchell last season, the overall season would have looked a lot better. What a tremendously fortunate break it was for UK to have the Huggins thing happen. His ability as a stretch 4 really changes this team. He was used wrong at Texas and he played in an offense that didn't get him the ball enough at WVU. He shouldn't have that issue here.

I know it's not college basketball and the talent level we are playing against in Canada isn't like it is at Duke or Kansas, but you can see the talent oozing from these UK players. I hope they develop like we think they should.

Wagner, Dillingham, Edwards, Bradshaw and even Sheppard have really good chances to be 10+ season NBA players.

Adding Coach Welch was so huge. He along with Cal and the other assistants have a tremendous amount of talent to work with 1-10
Not sure about Reed in the NBA. Which is fine with me, as long as he’s a really good college player (which I think he will be). I don’t think he has the size or athletic ability. He would absolutely have to be a point guard in the NBA, he’d get killed by NBA two guards. He looks smaller than his listed 6’3” to me. Looks closer to 6’1”

This team is like that 2013-2014 team and that world famous team that got robbed of a title in 2016-2017 year. They will get hot and once that happens will play like the best team in the country. The question will be will they do it all the way to win it? Or will they get hot in Dec and lose a game in February and slow down?

Sheppard has all kinds of athletic ability. But you are right, he would need to be a PG in the NBA and that is a tough role.

Reed has a high bball IQ, is a tremendous passer, can shoot, and he plays with poise. His game is based on his skill level. If he continues to improve on his strengths and lessens his weaknesses he has a chance to be an NBA player. It helps being a tremendous athlete but even that doesn't guarantee you'll be good enough to be in the NBA. You still have to have skills.

I am not saying it's a slam dunk. Just saying he has some things in his skill set that could lead him there.

He have guards in spades; that's what wins NCAAs these days.
We are dangerous already.

He has some athleticism, I’m not saying he’s not athletic at all. I just think for a guy his size he needs a little more to be a long term NBA guy. Either way, he has every tool he needs to be one hell of a college basketball player which is really all that matters to me.

For only having 10 practices and missing two 6'10"+ guys, that was pretty good.

Germany shot themselves in the foot a bit by turning the ball over so much and only shooting 3's, but our guys made more winning plays.

Our youth showed its ugly head a bunch today and Justin's scoring ability didn’t come out, but they played pretty good.

I don’t know his actual height but he looked 6’3”ish to me in the high level AAU games I watched. We need him to be an excellent 2 in college and that’s all maybe he grows another inch or 2 as well.

I always thought so too, I’m not sure why it was but he just looked shorter / smaller out there to me than I remember him looking. He didn’t look any taller than Dillingham to me.

247 has Dilly listed at 6’2”. Some have 6’1”. So he could realistically be 5’10” compared to how UK lists heights in the past. Reed could be anywhere from 6’1” to 6”3. Jeff was listed at 6’4” so he will probably reach a similar size since his mother is probably taller than average for a woman.

I actually thought Dillingham was relatively under control, love the Freshman guards! Gonna be a fun year

The freshmen are confident. It’s like they all saw Grady Dick and thought to themselves “if this goofy mother**r went lottery, I’m gonna dominate college basketball”. Even Reed thinks that. And I don’t blame him… Grady Dick is one goofy sunafabitch.

Shep is closer to 6'2 than 6'4. I'm 6'0 in my bare feet. Had my picture taken w/ Shep some time ago where we're standing side by side, and he's maybe 2" taller...a short 2 at that. Makes me appreciate his hops even more.
