How is it possible that Bagley who EVERY ONE of the recruiting experts were saying there is no way he could re-class because his academics where so bad - suddenly is apparently suiting up to play college basketball?

How is it possible when it was so out of the blue that two of the teams that normally would have had a great shot at him - Zona and USC - were caught without an available scholarship? In all my 40 years of following recruiting, I've never seen anything like it.

By the way, Reddish just got through rooming with Tre Jones at the Nike Skills Academy, where he said they "grew close". RJ Barrett was there as well by the way, hanging with Jones and Reddish. College players were also "invited" to the skills academy to work with the rising freshmen - 20 of the "best college players" were invited.

Only one team had three players "invited" - and guess who that was? Duke. That means Duke was basically allowed to send Duval, Bolden, and Grayson Allen to hang out with Reddish and Jones and Barrett for a week this August. Guess who had ZERO college players there working and bonding with the best high school players in the country? Kentucky, UNC, Arizona. I guess we know now another reason Duke cancelled their overseas trip - it would have conflicted with timeline of Skills Academy.

There is a reason Reddish was having lunch with Lebron James last week before he committed - LBJ is closely associated with the Nike Skills Academy btw.

Guess who hasn't uttered one word of outrage about this obscenely unfair advantage? The sycophantic pro-Duke media.

It's obvious now that the fix has been in on this for a while. Get ready for it guys, because it's obvious that Nike plans to funnel their top kids through Duke every year. There is a reason the two top 10 guys we're perceived to have best shot at are Adidas kids.

Agreed... but Just what we needed. ANOTHER Duke thread ! I guess the 47 other threads about this same very topic weren't enough lol

We definitely don't look obsessed/ little brother ish at all.

False- we do, the rogue 8% of our board who are slurping K and Dukes under carriage with the Duke obsession , is making it seem as if all UK fans feel inferior to them.

Kentucky could have had Reddish if Cal offered Louis King and took him with Reddish as a package. Cal decided it was more important to get Barrett alone. And lost King and Reddish. If we get Barrett, everybody should be happy. If Barrett joins Reddish at Duke, Cal will have egg all over his face. I suspect we wind up with Barrett.

Don't feel inferior at all, but know when someone has their thumb on the scales and I'll call it out.

Don't understand how Duke is getting away with this Nike Skills Academy bullshit. Can u imagine the backlash if it was UK instead sending Gabriel, Green, and Diallo and there were no kids there from Duke or the other highest profile Nike schools?

Nah brah. Reddish was never going anywhere other than Duke. Signs were always there, just like with Giles, Tatum, Trent, Carter, Parker, Tre Jones. You can almost pick out what their classes are gonna be before anyone even commits.

I don't care who they sign. We'll see how Bagley turns out academically. A red flag or two there. Even with Bagley the experts agreed UK held on to the top class for 2017! I ready it if I can find it you can, I don't have the link. Coach K is getting older and he wont be there forever. Duke has a nice class started but we have a long season ahead and believe we sign 3 in early period from top 10.

Helluva lot to overcome for other big time programs. K retiring will help, but Duke won't fall off the map. They'll have many great coaches interested in the job.

The the real rub and the questions that should be asked is the Lebron meeting with Reddish and next week commits. More there than people realize. Lebron has played for k a ton, considers him his true coach.
Think it was more nike involvement than anything, bagley too.

It seems as though Cal may have misread this class, coupled with utter bullshit from the NCAA and Duke. A few recruits we should have offered earlier, maybe not prioritized so heavily on others.

IF.. IF that becomes the case.. It will be one of Cal's first "mess ups" as the rest of his classes were pretty stellar all around. It's important to note that no coach is perfect, and even the greats like Belichick and Saban have flaws and make mistakes. If Cal goes 8 for 9 on recruiting classes that's still pretty damn exceptional.

People will freak of course. What they should be freaking about is whatever is going on behind closed doors at the NCAA.

100% disagree. I actually think they will fall harder once he retires. He's clearly got more pull than we thought, along with some shady as hell assistant coaches.

The NCAA doesn't favor their shade of blue or have some affinity for Duke. It's Coach K. He's a money maker and he's been doing it for ~35 years. He doesn't just hand down his clout to the next guy. Favors and special treatment have to be earned. Everything goes out the door with him.

Agree to disagree. While K is a HUGE part of it, this thing goes well beyond Coach K. Duke is essentially the media's university. The media being Northern in nature it will always support its darling university pumping out Yankee grads. Duke is made up majority of northerners. The only thing southern about Duke is it's location.

Need proof that the media and NCAA love Duke? Look no further than Northwestern's Coach Collins. He was a God last year in the tournament. I've never heard commentators more openly pulling for a team than they were for NW.

Duke has favor because of more than just Coach K, although no doubt he is a huge part of it.

There will always be a "Coach K" at Duke, long after he retires.

Excellent excellent point. Well said my friend. This is so true.

These days we're just playing second fiddle/ leftovers to Duke and K.

Coach K is just damn good man, and he has so many built-in advantages. It's no wonder he has two titles during the Cal era.

Right ? He's totally owning cal. Sometimes I question whether or not I should hop aboard the Duke/ K train. I mean their success compared to ours since Cal got here... I
mean our accomplishments are downright embarrassing comparatively. Duke is the Mecca , K is the king. All others are just second fiddle and fodder.

Vegas odds has Duke winning the next 9 titles in a row!

We are so spoiled.

We look to be in good shape to sign a class of:

F Shittu- composite #7.
G Quickley- composite #9.
G Johnson- composite #15.

Plus return 5-6 guys in the 4-star and 5-star range.

And half this board will gripe and complain because Cal didn't sign a top 5 guy.

Exactly.

I may have been the last person to figure this out, but Tre Jones is that little gremlin Tyus' younger brother. Which tells me two things:

1. That wasn't exactly a tough recruitment for Coach K...
2. That would be the 2nd time in a decade that Coach K bagged an entire family. While the Plumlee's were nothing special, these 5-for-2 recruiting packages helped give him two titles.

Must be nice to find some crop of 5-star brothers to just bank on.

I continue to believe we are going to sign so much more than that and lose far more players than that.

It's possible that there are just too many returning guys for us to get some 2013-type haul. Nothing wrong with that.

I'd live with that class. But it firmly puts us at #2 or possibly lower depending on what Arizona, UofL, and Maryland do (currently in the top5 for class rankings). That doesn't include kids choosing Kansas/UNC for the criminal/no classes route either.

I don't know about all that. But yes K is one of the best unfortunately for Cats fans. Kind of a thorn in the side right now with these recruiting hauls, team USA, LeBron, etc.

I find my interest waning more and more every year now for just this reason. What's the point of watching when it's obvious theres so much collusion from the governing body of the sport?

Do we need another recruiter on the staff? thought the young guy was supposed to be really good out on the trail. Will Duke let us bring back Antigua so we can compete with them?

The Nike Summit stuff is disturbing on many levels. Any below average redneck can see what Duke was up to. The fact that it was allowed is disturbing.

What's most disturbing of all is that Nike is going all out to help Coach K and Duke starting in 2014.

I tend to believe they will fall greatly when K retires until they hire an outsider. You know when K retires that they will hire one of his minions. Whether that is Capel, Hurley, Dawkins, Wojo or someone else they have all proven to not be able to get the job done at a high level and most have been caught cheating which to me proves the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
