The Curious case of Ansley Almonor

Odd that we didn’t see him much. Could have used some of his three point shooting, especially late. But he can be a defensive liability at times … maybe that’s why? Not like we were getting stops anyway.

Down town starters, another one fouls out and AA played ten minutes and took one shot. I understand Carr was cooking but wouldn’t you rather have AA on the floor at the 3. I don’t get it.
AA is probably the easiest to stop because he's not quick or athletic. He's a spot up shooter. Bama was not gonna let him do what he did against Vandy in our last game. I love his heart and game. He's went above and beyond this season to help us win but this was not his game.

He’s not a good defender or rebounder. Carr hit three threes and played well. Maybe Almonar should have gotten some of Noah’s minutes, but Ansley A. played 10 minutes (probably not consecutively) and had all zeros except for the one shot he missed. It just wasn’t the right game for him.

Just a bad matchup that didn’t leave much of a role for him. Alabama doesn’t really give minutes to anybody he could guard very effectively, and they were doing a good at taking the catch and shoot 3 away from him while he was in the game, which is his only reliable offense.

He can't move laterally on defense and he doesn't rebound well enough for his size. He also doesn't handle the ball or distribute. Unless you're running action to get him shots, he really isn't great.
I've noticed that he is very, very slow to get downcourt. Seems to lack speed.

Almonor playing the three would be such a bad decision that even I would openly begin to worry about Pope’s ability to coach. As it is, he is too slow to guard fours, much less moving to the perimeter. If you have a problem with Pope’s lineup patterns, I can get that, but he didn’t fail to play AA at SF. He succeeded at keeping him away from it entirely.

Guess what, we have a bunch of liabilities on defense. It’s to the coaches to help cover those up, similar to last play of game where we get the ball out of the hands of the guy who scored 30 plus by sending a double team

Played 1/4 of the game and shot one 3 pointer and the rest....goose eggs. ???? Not the first time. You've got to do SOMETHING while you're on the floor.
