Spread the court and let the guards do their thing.......not many teams have 3 guards as hot as ole miss had tonight but the quickness difference was very revealing....

Ha... You better hit insane 3 pointers and hope we don't hit a FG for 8 minutes like what happened tonight. How do you design that?

Ole Miss played great. We did not. We won

Gameplan? Not trying to be rude, but Ole Miss got very lucky and everybody knows it.

UK did not come out ready to play. No energy and no respect for the Ole Miss team. I hope there was a lesson learned tonight Propers to Ole Miss but UK did not give their best game.

I believe when we got up by 12 early the players thought it was going to be another UCLA game. They simply relaxed after that and gave Ole Miss the chance to stay in.

Ole Miss hit contested threes. If that's a game plan best of luck.

I give the Rebs credit, they hit some crazy shoots with people in their face.

There's no *blueprint* to beat UK other than what you'd do against any team. You have to hit shots. You have to get stops. Ole Miss hit a ridiculous number of contested shots tonight. I doubt we see that kind of display from an opponent again this season.

GBB!!!

deny the paint
foul anyone that get's there and tries to shoot
make us have to win with 3pt
hope you have a insane shooting night

Wrong. Literally everything you wrote. Nice try though.

This is basketball and not football and there is a big difference. Tournament time is a one and out and a hot team like Ole Miss can give you and early exit. UK is a great team, but March Madness has that name for a reason. That's what scares the heck out of me. We get a team with quick guards and they start making a few shots and get a few bounces and the season is over. Football is usually won by the most talented team, but basketball doesn't always play out that way. I still like UK chances though, but know that the best team (see UConn last year) doesn't always end up wining the thing.

What transpired tonight is not what will be conducive to beating UK. Ole Miss drained a ton of jump shots that were contested. They may not play that hot the rest of the season. Sure, the breaks were falling their way to pull off the upset, but to call it a design is a bit of a stretch. But any team that draws it up on the board as "Shoot a lot of contested shots - pray" then they will get what they deserve - a beating.

We get these "blueprint" posts everytime someons plays a decent half against us.

All good points. It's mind boggling the shots people make in Rupp against us. Ole Miss shot way over their head. I think our guys played hard, and ffs a hand in a guys face and him fading and hitting it was working for Ole miss.

And my last point. Wth is wrong with DJ? He has been so not engaged. Can't understand why he can't score down low. He has all the size. Must be his footwork. He is frustrating so far this season.

Yeah , tonight almost everything went their way. They were having shots bouncing all over the rim and dropping, banking shots in, hitting crazy shots all over the court and a couple of calls were as bad as I've seen. That call on Ulis where he made no contact with the player and the referee was standing 3 ft. away should be sent to the league office. On the other hand UK played poorly especially on defense. I am hoping that the players take note of what happened tonight and get better. Hey, Cats are still undefeated and ranked number one in the country. Cats aren't going to win every game by 20. They will likely have another game or two that is close. 11 three pointers kind of saved our bacon tonight. The main thing is Cats still win. 14-0 and GO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you try to shoot over UKs big on drives or post moves, that team is doomed, only way to win is spread and use quickness advantage, And UK was out scored 30-26 in paint today. Because the bigs were out of position trying to cover for guards.

If the little guy with dreads doesn't cramp, Ole Miss wins

Spreading the floor will be a popular gameplan. But tonight, especially, in the 2nd half, Ole Miss just hit one tough shot after another

Don't take it so personal, last night was a wake up call for fans too. Other teams can play. Ole Miss was fantastic, I expect every team's best shot.

If UK plays with defensive intensity, they win by 15 last night. But after jumping out 16-2, they let up, the White Platoon stunk it up and let the little man go off for Ole Miss.

Valuable lesson should be learned, step on throat, keep foot on throat.

The plus minus last night told the tale, several UK players were off their game, big-time, Ulis was -23, yes minus 23

We had a bunch of players who had their worst game of the season last night, WCS, Dakari, Towns, Lee, Ulis, and Booker to some extent (his defense in OT was fantastic). We can't have every one of our front court players have a bad game at the same time. Towns had a great first 2 minutes and then struggled mightily. I don't understand why he struggles so much with his jump hook and he's good for at least one goal-tending call a game. Lee didn't play a lot but that was due to what he did, or I should say didn't do, while he was out of the floor. He's an energy guy and if he isn't giving that he's a big liability, so Cal sat him. Dakari still brings the ball down to his waist every time he gets the ball in the post. At the end of last season he would catch that ball and immediately make his move with the ball up over his head. He's not doing that right now and it's eliminating his effectiveness. WCS had a lot of energy most of the game but was careless with the ball, 5 turnovers. He was also 1-4 from the free throw line. Lyles played fairly well but when he catches the ball in the paint he doesn't need to throw a lob. He needs to pump fake and shoot.

We are vulnerable when all these guys have subpar games like last night.

The only thing last night did was that it might have changed the mindset of some of these coaches as to how to play Kentucky.

Before the "blueprint" looked like Columbia. Now it looks like you can get early offense as long as it's in the right places in the court.

Kentucky was really susceptible at the elbows and to those little rub screens they were running. Ole Miss hit some tough threes but they did most of their work from right near the foul line. Never seen a team work the elbows like that in the post-mid-range jumper era.

But while that gameplan almost worked for Ole Miss last night, it's going to get some teams absolutely pounded. Because if you're not hitting those shots, you're getting clobbered.

I don't really think there is much opposing teams control other than bringing their best effort. Much of it rests on us. If we do not come out to play (as we did not last night) then that is part of the recipe. Some of it is left to luck. You have to shoot a lot of threes and hope that you are hitting them. As we saw last night, if your bring energy AND we don't come out ready to play AND you shoot and hit a bunch of threes you have a CHANCE, albeit slim, to win in overtime.

The shots Ole Miss were hitting were available to UL, UCLA, etc. Those teams missed. I agree with the posters who suggested our early offense caused the team to lose their focus. In fact, I felt we were the Duke team that lost last year. You live and die by the 3. If you want to review the comeback by Ole Miss and the poor percentages that occurred for Kentucky after the beginning, it was that the team continued to mainly just shoot outside jump shots. They fell in love with the 3 and that is great that our team is hitting more but it is not the strength of this team nor should be the offensive focus.

But there's a difference between being available and scheming for those shots.

Ole Miss hit a lot of stuff last night that was just tough. But the things they were getting against Ulis and the way they just wore out the elbow were designed. The way they used pump fakes and made us foul them was designed.

I think it's a blueprint that could be helpful to the kinds of teams who have players who can hit those shots. But it's going to be problematic for other teams, because that mid-range game is freighted with risk.

Great point Joneslab. The word is out to shot fake our guys and draw contact. We need to stay down on that crap. Our guards are even falling for it.
