Would have been for Cal to come back next year and announce next year would have been his last at UK. Would have freed up the money and gave Mitch and the coaching candidates a year to prepare for the hire. Now we’re looking at hiring someone who hasn’t coached college in 10 years, brings in no player, will have to adjust to the new landscape, we have to wait to hire him, doesn’t like recruiting, and doesn’t have the best reputation in the nba for X’s and O’s and we’re currently being embarrassed nationally that all of our top candidates have turned us down. Could still end relatively well with Pearl but all this is definitely not a good look for us.

This. And the damage is not done. Calipari has done irreparable damage to the UK basketball program. IMO one of the reasons coaches are turning us down is they don't want to have to suffer through the OAD curse that's been placed on the program.

Kentucky will get a good coach, it may be another week, but it will happen. There are a lot of coaches that want the job, but only a few that would actually take it. Whoever gets the job knows the heat is on and they have to win fairly quick. that's going to narrow the field down, that's happening now. Those that have turned it down already are financially sound and are happy where they are at, with their families at this point in their careers. There are some younger coaches I think that would take the chance, some have already been mentioned.
