The Auburn loss is an albatross around our necks

They are now 202 on Kenpom, and now that Canty left the team they will probably lose out the rest of the way. They're currently on a 7 game losing streak.

We keep taking care of business like today and the past few games and the Auburn loss will become meaningless and we will be a team to be reckoned with a a team no one will want to face in the tourney. Not worried about the Auburn loss one bit any longer, just a bad memory now.

We just laid an egg on their home court.. Thankfully, we don't play any NCAA Tourney games in a hostile environment. We are starting to click at the right time. All you can ask for.

In terms of seeding, yeah, a little bit.

In terms of how big of a threat this team is to make a FF run? Not really at all. And this is a year where I just don't see a huge difference between being a 1-2 seed or being a 3-4. People love to say that you can lump 20-25 teams together, but most years that's not really true. This year it really does look like it is. There probably are teams out there that UK would be better off avoiding (UNC comes to mind, because they're big and athletic on the frontcourt), but those teams aren't necessarily going to be 1 or even 2 seeds.

I think if you take away the Auburn and the TN losses, we move back into the talk about being a 2 seed relatively easily.

Right now, I think we need to win out, and then we need help. Duke and Louisville need to make themselves look like good teams again.

We went to the FF as an 8 seed two years ago
The way we're playing right now, if we continue to do so, at worst I think we're a 4 seed
If the other ranked teams keep losing their games as they are, we could move up a line
For me, that Auburn game sparked the coming together of this team - so, it could end up being the game we can look back at and say, this is the one that marked the turnaround. The UT game was worse, IMO - but even so, it was on the road

You're going to have losses like that with our turnover every year but it's fine because we will be a nightmarish 4 seed . Somebody is going to dread having us in their bracket with a seed that doesn't match our capability . Getting a one seed is half the battle , hoping we're not your 4 or 5 seed is the other half .

What's done is done, I see no point on dwelling on what we can't change. We should concentrate on being excited about what
Cal has been able to change in the last couple weeks, and that is to get the kids to buy in to playing for each other and sell out
totally on the defensive end.

It's obvious we're witnessing another transformation of youngsters, congealing into one hell of a cohesive unit. Learning from
our mistakes and growing right before our eyes. You've got to love the progress they've made defensively - outstanding.

The Auburn loss was really bad, inexplicably bad. It does not make our road impossible. It does make it harder.

One good thing about a loss like that. There is nowhere to go but up. Fortunately, that's the direction we've gone so far.

Water under the bridge. Not nearly as bad a loss as the 98 championship team losing to a really bad UL team in Rupp.

They may be 202 on kenpom, but we're up to 9th. Apparently kenpom itself isn't penalizing us much. Just one bad game in a long season.

If I could turn one of our losses into a win, then for seeding purposes I would rather have a win over Kansas instead of a win over Auburn or Tennessee.

Good points in this thread. My point wasn't to dwell on this bad thing, just to point out that this is probably what's keeping us down in many of the rankings and computer models. One could argue, it helped spur our guys to get better. A win next Saturday could help put that game completely out of the discussion.

I'm not down on the team, particularly given how they are playing at the moment, but the Ohio State, Tennessee and probably the UCLA losses hurt pretty bad too. We're still weak inside and that is a problem. Still time to shore it up though.

It's an ugly and embarrassing loss to be sure, but the last few years have proven that seeding isn't as important as it seemed to be at one point. Young, talented teams that "underachieve" early start hitting their grove later in the season, and mid-major teams with lots of experience also get lower seeds due to their schedule. Even under the radar teams with just one or two studs and a bunch of role players can get hot and win the title.

No matter what our seed is, we're going to have to beat good teams in the tournament eventually, and we've proven to be capable of slaying our fair share of giants as the "underdog" in the tournament during the Cal Era. It would be nice to play closer to home, certainly, but I've thought all along that it was going to be difficult for this team to get the Louisville regional as anything other than a 1 seed. Even at that it wouldn't be a sure thing because it's us. To be honest I've never expected us to get put in that region so it wouldn't be a real big loss to me. Just go out there and take care of business regardless of where they send us, and don't expect it to be easy because it never is.

Everyone's had that moment or two where they went slummin'.

After it's over, we all try to forget it and move on from the shame as best we can.

I'd like to get a 3-4 seed out West.

That bracket is sure to be weak and we might get the chance to curb stomp UCLA.

The only good thing right is that we are playing well and the rest of the top 25 seem to drop a game every week. Playing well the last 10 games of the season could be big for us.

As long as we only lose 1 more game from here on out it won't really hurt our seeding either as we will be a 2 seed . So really who cares ..

when you have Villanova and wow as top seeds nothing scares me in March

To mariners of old the Albatross could either be a good omen or curse. As it is, I see this Albatross as a good omen since we've played good ball since then. Of course we didn't finish against TN & KS but had a 21 point lead that would never disappear now and I truly think the team is starting to believe in itself and one another. They don't ever want to feel another AUB or TN like game. Don't shoot the Albatross as it follows us, that is a curse for sure.
