How Mark Pope went the extra mile to land transfer Andrew Carr at Kentucky by Kyle Tucker
Here is my summary, because its probably behind their paywall...
The story was true...So last Friday, as we know, Pope and his coaches flew to Vegas to secure the commitment of Lamont Butler. Got back to Lexington, and hosted recruit Aiden Mahaney. They were scheduled to host Andrew Carr on Saturday, but his flight out of Texas got delayed. The staff immediately got them on a flight to Nashville. Pope drove towards Nashville to pick him and his parents up. They got an Uber and started driving toward Lexington. Pope met them at a gas station in Bowling green. Brought drinks and snacks for Carr and his parents, and personally drove them back to Lexington, getting in around 4am. …. and that is when the the recruiting momentum changed. Pope got 5 commitments in 6 days.. If Pope ends up being successful here at UK. Flight troubles and that drive to Nashville to personally pick up a recruit, may be the fork in the road that changed his and UKs’ fortunes. I love having an honorable and decent person as our coach… Now lets go win !!!!
