The 10 teams that can win college basketball's national title

We can't count on Alex. Great kid, just doesn't have an aggressive personality, so he has to get revved up. Which doesn't happen every game. Can't change his personality, he is what he is.

But it's a weak year, no great teams. And March is "guard time", and we have arguably the best backcourt in the country. And we have Cal, 22-4 in the tournament. All hope is not lost.....

About KU he says they have two of everything, including "two stud freshmen". How is that an asset when neither is contributing as stud freshmen? That's like us listing Skal as one of our strengths.

Also, I would say that there are probably 15 teams that could win it all this year.

Since Cal has been here we have went to the final four as a 4, 1, 8 and 1 seed. If you have the talent (which we do) you can threaten for a title any year.

I agree. However everything depends on what Alex does. He is the true key because skal is all but a lost cause this year.

I agree with this, but feel good about it. Alex made a ton of plays to keep our season alive in the tournament 2 years ago. He was a flop away from tying the championship game IIRC. He seems to show up more for big games (ranked teams, tournament)

Yep

I don't think everything hinges on AP...if that is the case we are in trouble...

AP has to be the icing and not the cake...if he has a spectacular game...great, it can only help...but after 3 and half years, he is what he is...we cannot put the game on him and count on a 25 pt performance...that's just not who he is...he can do it if he wants do, if he is emotional, if he is pissed about fans on being on him...but that's just not his nature all the time...he has shown over the course of his career that he is perfectly fine playing second fiddle and letting other stars shine...

Our fate relies with the guard play...specifically Murray and Ulis...they are going to have to shoulder the load...Briscoe is going to have to take major leaps forward over the next month and a half as well...

If we can go into the dance with 3 elite guards really clicking, we can make a final 4 run...

After those 3 I think Lee and Willis have to be something...Lee has to be solid and consistent force to lean on in the front court...and Willis needs to continue to shoot and find a real good groove as we near march...

Purdue, Iowa State and UVA cannot win it all.

I tend to agree, but maybe I'm biased based on historical stuff as those are not powerhouse teams really. Plus, I picked ISU to go to Final Four last year (Big 12 other than KU, what was I thinking?!!) so never again will I trust them.

Beating a dead horse here, but maybe not everything would depend on Alex if we started to get Hump, Tai and Willis more involved.

Honestly, it might be too late as we're almost halfway into the season. But if Poy was checked on the days he threw in the towel, maybe Hump would be further along. Maybe Willis would be respectable on defense.

Not to get all pitch-forkey here, but I'm gonna be seriously pissed if Poythress continues to pussy-foot his way through his Senior season, and we lose in the tournament because he alone couldn't overcome a legitimate front court.

We recognize that Poythress is still Poythress and our Frountcourt is the only thing holding us back. So why aren't we trying to fix it? You can almost write, verbatim, how we are going to lose in the tournament, it's scary. So NOW'S the time to do something... Not throw Willis and Hump into the pressure-cooker because Poy fouls out with 7 min left in the Elite 8 game...

Poythress has only competed in one NCAA tournament and he was a vital piece that year. We don't beat UofL or Wisconsin without Poythress. And he was one of the key pieces helping us come back against UConn.

I know he can be maddeningly inconsistent, but I think with Ulis and Murray we have the two stud guards we need for a deep tournament run. And if Poythress can replicate his 2014 performance we're in really good shape.

With no clear favorites and overwhelming talent, this may be a year to look at upperclassmen-led teams come tourney time. IMO.

After last nights game vs. MSU I don't believe that SKAL is a lost cause. In the 14 minutes that was the best he looked since back in the beginning of the season. Remember, he had scored 90 points in his first 6 games averaging 15ppg. Last night he scored 5 and 4 reb. with a block. Hopefully, he continues to get better and gets back to double digit scoring and near that in rebounding too. Then with POY/LEE and if we can get them be become consistent and have Double/Doubles consistently then with those 3 big men to go with our 3 elite guards and with Hawkins off the bench we will be fine come March Madness.

This year will be refreshing in that I will enter the tournament will pretty low expectations. If we make it to the sweet 16 I will be okay with it (after the initial frustration). If we go beyond that I say it is all gravy.

As for Alex, it is foolish to expect him to be this consistent force that we ride to the final four. Rather we should just hope that all of the pieces of our bigs-by-committee show up as often as possible. Lee rebounds pretty much every night. Alex is good for some defense and some dunks, especially if the pick N roll is working. I think we do need either Skal, hump or Tai to contribute. I think that will be skal. I just don't know how much he will give. I say let him shoot 10 footers where he is comfortable and let the others bang inside.
