As a fan I believe in this team. This game should be a reminder and a wake up call that no matter the record of your opponent, you have to bring it every game............GO CATS!

Ohio State, just played a super game, they had a bunch of put backs and hitting 3 s from everywhere with a hand in there face, kind of like the UCLA game, but Ky just took to many jump shots no inside game, what happen with the lobs that ky had so many last yr..

If we are going to have to rely on Murray to go off every game for us to beat teams that are decent than we are in trouble honestly because those crazy shots aren't going to fall consistently. He was in a zone yesterday but that's not going to happen every game. Ask Ohio State how having one dominant player (Deangelo Russell) worked out for them last year. I just don't like the direction this team is headed.
Skal looks like he's a complete bust. People want to compare his stats to KAT's because KAT had a few stinkers last year but at least KAT gave effort every game and had some hand strength. Skal has a lot of skill but I just don't know if he is capable of surviving in Cal's fast track system to the NBA.
We all want Poythress to be some beast because we saw him play that way in one game when he was a freshman, well, we have to face reality with him, he's just not all that great.
I guess we should feel lucky we are playing in the SEC but if we can't beat a 5-5 OSU team on a neutral court I don't see this team beating too many average or better SEC teams on the road in conference play.
But the good news is maybe we can keep some of our guys an extra year. I'm getting really tired of losing all these players after one year. I understand it when guys like Wall, Cuz, Randal and Davis leave after one season but too many other players jumped that really weren't ready but because they had potential they jump. It hurts our program. The twins and Dakari had no business jumping, if you're not a first rounder you shouldn't be going anywhere until you are a first rounder.

Our two losses are to teams with decent talent that were given /took the early opportunity offered by our young team to get into a comfort zone and build confidence. We need better starts to put more game pressure on decent competition. In both losses by the time we decided to play it was too late and our competition was comfortable and confident. I have watched both teams as have many of us look highly average in other games and play like all Americans against us. Part of that is created within the game. We need to take that away early with better effort and execution early-- indy

You sir are right with the 1 and done quote. I hate it as well but this is what it is now in college bball. Having said that, I'm not giving up on this team and we're just gonna have to keep supporting them. GO CATS!!!

@kyjeff1 i, too, would like to see some guys stick around for our chance to make a serious run next year.
That would be a heck of a team if Briscoe, Lee, Ulis and a couple of others stuck around. However, the next season after that would look a lot like this one or possibly even the 2013 season because we stand to lose the entire roster after 16/17.

Oh I'm not giving up either. I just wish the culture didn't lean so hard to the jumping side. if you aren't a first rounder you shouldn't be jumping.

I agree but. If you have no inside game, how can you go inside. None of our bigs are a threat when posting up against similar athletes. We have to rely on jump shots this year which ultimately will cause us losses when it counts.

I doubt any Kentucky fan is "giving up" on this team. That doesn't mean you can't point out errors, concerns, and similar issues. There are debates about Skal which are completely reasonable. There are debates about others, Cal, etc. I have no problem with discussing any of this.

Ohio State is not a top 20 team and you could see that clearly. Yes, they hit some great outside shots where we kept fumbling the ball away. But, even a blind person listening to the radio broadcast would know that the dribble drive concept for our team is not working. Teams are packing the paint and Kentucky is trying to lob it in the middle or drive it in the middle and that has become a disaster. Murray went away from that offense in the second half and dare I say, to a more Duke style of offense, and showed his abilities in doing so. Cal supposedly gears his team to the suitability of his players. Well, Poy is a Senior and is our best physical player and had several of his shots put right back in his face. Skal clearly is a finesse player, as is several others. Briscoe is fine in the dribble drive but it won't work because of the other teams defense. I have no idea why Ulis abandoned the pull up jumper he did early in the first half (I am not talking about the 3's) as he is skilled to get that open for this shot. My only guess is he has been told you have to take it to the basket or dish. Our defense is pretty poor because we don't have real shot blockers like the past other than perhaps Lee. So, backing off of the shooter has now been a big mistake against both UCLA and Ohio State.

We know these kids for the most part were elite High School talent. My feeling is both the offense and defense needs to be revamped away from the dribble drive and perhaps even using some more zone defenses. Yes, we can lob on offense all we want against crummy teams but when we face even decent (and not great) talent, we are in trouble. You don't get those looks and we don't turn the other teams over as much for breaks.

[QUOTE="Mike_Edwards, post: 3050738, member: 1234" our competition was comfortable and confident.
This will be more often then you wish. I've always wondered why teams wait until they are down and only a few minutes left before they get serious. Its what Cal is trying to get them to do all game long. It takes a team effort and we're not there yet. Only 2 losses and the sun came back up this morning

If getting their asses kicked at UCLA wasn't a wake up call, why would yesterday be?

Poythress is an accountant who likes to play basketball. A very good accountant, from all reports, but an accountant never the less. He came back out of a sense of obligation to the program that allowed him to get a degree and almost a 4.0 average on his way to grad school. He has no intention of going to the NBA, so he isn't driven to do the same things the one and dones should do. He is smart, articulate and successful in his field. This is just college sports. Nobody in his office will ever care where he played. He is a major winner by any standard. Get off his back.
