Texas A & M getting last laugh

We were so close to getting rid of a the huge boat anchor around the program's neck in Stoop's contract. I still can't believe his actions didn't qualify as breach of contract.
It's interesting because Cal's contract had in there where he had to inform Mitch if he was going to talk to someone about another job before he did so....he broke his contract when he talked to Arkansas before informing Mitch. Stoops does not have that language in his contract.

Wonder if you can add that to his contract on his next extension? Just joking 😂

Probably bc it was a first for stoops, whereas Cals team was putting NBA and UCLA rumors out yearly before that contract.

They raised 70 million in NIL. Does it even matter who the coach is?
That can be an equalizer to an extent, but I wouldn’t say that coaching doesn’t even matter if you have NIL. They were getting the best recruiting classes money could buy even going back a couple of years before it was strictly legal, and Jimbo wasn’t winning anything worth mentioning with them.

I think it would be illegal to have a contract in any business that stated you could not look for employment elsewhere. Thatwould not fly very well in a court of law.

Yes. Even if that number is accurate theyve always had NIL and highly regarded players and had a bunch of underwhelming seasons due to coaching. Does personnel matter? Yeah. But so does coaching. Something we should remember about our own situation. ‘Big dog’ been bringing in stars but it hasn’t translated. There’s more to it than that. Coaching, player identification in recruiting regardless of stars, management of roster, etc.

Could it be possible that the boosters threatened to pull money if he was retained ?
Absolutely possible. They did spend 30+ million on a recruiting class for Jimbo a few years ago. That class didn’t pan out and a big part of the reason they fired him. They also gave him 70+ million when they fired him. Those dudes have FU money down there.

And that donor money is the real needle mover. When we try to plan fan boycotts and whatnot it is so futile. Our little seat in section 200 doesn’t mean anything. The big D is swung by the boosters.

Cal had language in his contract that he had to inform Mitch prior to talking to any other school about a job. That language is not in Stoops’s contract. Cal actually broke his contract and had he not taken the Arkansas job, I believe he would have been terminated with cause.

So, while you can’t have the language you’re speaking of, you can put perimeters in the contract about how it would have to work if they do seek employment.
