The one fortunate thing about that hire is that it wasn't Cal at that time because the Derrick Rose fiasco would have happened here. That's the only good thing about that hire.

I'll admit I was excited for Billy Clyde at the time. He had the pedigree of a top coaching candidate. Had turned around UTEP and A&M. We needed a rebuild so I thought he could be the man for the job.

He had lined up some nice recruiting classes at A&M including Deandre Jordan. Just think what he could do with UK's resources........

I'm just glad that he failed so publicly and so fantastically that Mitch had no choice but to fire him after 2 years.

I guarantee you bcg uses that as a tool when recruiting for juggernaut ranger college. He probably uses it as a pick up line as well tell coeds have u ever been with a former uk head coach. He probably tells them it was his decision to leave and Mitch begged him to stay. Still kinda pissed cal wanted to come here in 2007!l but Mitch went with the flavor of march in hiring the drunk.

Nope. I wanted Cal when OTS was on the way out. Mitch made an Indiana hire and got the coach who beat Louisville. Those type of picks usually don't work out.

He is still the guy I want when Cal leaves. I think he is the only person that could step in and keep it going. He may not get as many 5* guys, but he will get his fair share and is a helluva game time coach.
