Team USA loses to Nigeria

You know I've taken up for LeBron over the years because I think he should be considered right up there as being the best player. With his antics off of the court the last few years and this shit of not representing your country at the Olympics the BEST players don't do shit like that!
The one guy in the whole nba who hates the USA more than anyone....yet has benefited more from being in the USA.

Bring back the mindset of the Dream Team. Those guys were proud to represent the USA.

This current bunch....eh.

All of my posts earlier in this thread:
NEVERMIND! Clearly I was wrong.

Espn reports: We tried and we Lost.
Unbelievable.
Man, and you tried so hard with the “you and your buddies golfing” analogy and everything.

Fake News.
Team USA was going through the motions of practice.

Nigeria was playing like it was the Super Bowl.
Hit 20 3 pointers.
Meaningless...
Seriously —

if you just threw in a “doesn’t matter until March” this post is the template for a “UK just lost to some random mid major tonight and I need to calm everyone down” post

Nigeria plays NBA players who would get the the thrill of their lives beating NBA stars that may lack in motivation on defense. Much if the world will be pulling for an upset. Nigeria dies not have a thousand players at DI or NBA level, they have just enough to field a rotation that could with hot 3 point shooting win 1 game against a much better team. In an 82 game NBA season against NBA teams Nigeria would win some games. It is parity.

I hope they lose. The NBA is a bunch of overpaid freaks that Put money over country. The team is not an embarrassment but the entire NBA.

I don't know if they're putting "money over country", but you're definitely putting hatred over country by saying that you want the U.S. to lose.

I hope Team U.S.A. wins every game by double digits. Bam's going to join a pretty exclusive club. :)

I don't keep up with the NBA much but I do watch playoff basketball. I haven't heard Darius Garland name mentioned since the first week of season at vandy. Is he good enough to be on our Olympic team?

All I needed to see was that it was an “exhibition”.

People are losing their minds over this?

I remember a few years back when the Lions beat the Patriots in the preseason….

I missed the part where people lost their minds.

also I think people expect a little more parity between two NFL teams and USA basketball vs Nigeria basketball

The Dolphins beat the Patriots pretty much every year. NFL game is not analogous at all.

This could be like when Mashburn played against the Pro’s and lost the first scrimmage and talked shit to Bird. Just a wake-up call.

Nigeria was led by a non-rotational 2-way contract player from the Heat who barely saw the court. USA simply had zero heart in this one.

It will be extra interesting if the USA team loses back-to-back for the first time ever tomorrow when playing the Aussie team.

It wasn't Mash who did the trash talk against Bird. It was another player who did and paid for it the next game.

There was a thread posted here on that interview. It's worth the watch.

Hey!

Here’s a take that’s not going to move the message board needle (where I think everything has to either be the biggest deal ever, or completely meaningless!) —

Team USA lost a game to a country they have no business losing to. That’s wild. Glad that was just an exhibition and not a real Olympic game.

It’s not the biggest deal in the world but is it worthy of a thread on a college basketball message board during the off-season? Of course it is.

some of you guys act like it’s such a non story no one even should be allowed to talk about it

Many of these other countries have been playing basketball for years now and getting training and a lot of playing time in colleges and leagues in the states. Most of them grew up playing a better fundamental style of basketball which most international leagues play. We like a lot of sensationalism in our sports so we sometimes go more for more style and flair than fundamentally sound basketball. The world is getting better.

ALL of these things are true.

even with all those things being true Nigeria shouldn’t give team USA any run. Other European countries, sure. Not Nigeria.

Congrats to the U19 team on beating France in the U19 championship today. I hope the U.S. national team repeats the result against the French national team on July 25th. :)

These guys grew up in the same basketball world as ours. Most of Nigeria’s players are really from the United States but have attained Nigerian citizenship through a parent (similar to how KAT attained Dominican citizenship), most played US college basketball, and several have played in the NBA.

They are not just familiar with our basketball culture, they are part of it.

Not just talking about Nigeria but, it could very well still be a point. Not all of their players are from here and the style of ball they play could very well be the style I posted earlier, more fundamental. did not watch the game so it is too hard to know for me but, I have noticed in the past that many who come from other countries in the past played a better more fundamental game. Well, at least to me. 7 of their players play internationally according to one article I read so, that is the case internationally. Not trying to excuse the loss but other nations have gotten better and it was exhibition. No Booker as well.

Nice analogy, comrade. Hope UK athletes make a ton of money legitimately while respecting the country that makes it possible.
Hey friend, I just hope your new team (Nigeria) keeps doing well I guess. Succeed and Proceed and all that jazz. Hopefully my team (US) will do much better next time! How much was shipping for a Nigerian basketball jersey anyway? jk

The USA should never lose to Nigeria even if they were just goofing around. No excuse, very embarrassing.

Some thoughts on the win tonight:

1. It will be interesting to see how the US progresses. If they turn into what their talent levels tell us, then this was really just a hiccup in chemistry, cohesion, and availability, that maybe was brought on by the season ending later (and two NBA rosters currently unavailable)

2. Jason Tatum didn't play. And we won. We're undefeated without him, and winless with him. Send him to the bench.

3. Luis Scola still hooping! 16/5/2 in 18 minutes and the dude is 41! Forty. One.
