Targeting vs ….well, Targeting same announcer same quarter of football.

Well, the LSU hit on the FSU quarterback was not really debatable. Targeting.

The Florida hit on Will Levis...much closer to call. The problem is, that has been called targeting for the last two years and that's what really pi$$ed me off about it. Someone even pointed out earlier that Florida got that call against Kentucky just last year.

Florida got a targeting call that won them the game a few years ago with the QB being the hall carrier and it being a close quarters Dlineman making a tackle in a pile. One of the most bogus targeting calls I’ve ever seen.

The Sawyer Smith broken hand game I believe

I think it should of been called targeting but the LSU player left his feet and launched.
I see what you are saying. I just think they were both targeting. Wonder if same guy in Birmingham made both calls

The rule on a defenseless player is that you can't "make forcible contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent with the helmet, forearm, hand, fist, elbow, or shoulder. This foul requires that there be at least one indicator of targeting." The announcers kept talking about launching, which is one of the indicators, which it doesn't appear to me that he does. But another one of the indicators is "Leading with helmet, shoulder, forearm, fist, hand, or elbow to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area." It seems that the hit clearly meets that indicator. He clearly led with his helmet and attacked the head or neck area of Levis. That's all it takes to show targeting on a defenseless player.

I thought for sure it was targeting but I have seen quite a few games this year and they are being very lenient about it. In the WVU game with Pitt I thought Pitt hit guys in the head I don’t think they ever called targeting. Last year it would of 100% been called. I don’t like it but guys getting head injuries is not good.

I'm okay with it not being targeting if they don't call it all year everywhere else- but I doubt it and I'd bet we see it different every game.

It was waaaaay overboard. Ejecting players for normal contact especially when the offense moves into an already committed to a tackle defender. Just horrible. One if the worst examples was the Carter ejection and a 15 yards that probably cost us the game.

I remember it all too well. The officiating in the Florida game over the years has been downright criminal at times.

The hit on Levis this year is linked above and was not called targeting. Compare it to the link below where UK's hit on the FL QB in 2019 was called targeting.

The difference is apparently whose quarterback is being hit.
exactly what i brought up when watching the florida game. i remember that flag on tj carter. absolute bs....and what made it more ridiculous is the review took about 8 seconds. their mind was made up before review even took place.
