hoping I could get some information if anybody's has it.

This is my second season as a season ticket holder, and a friend and I have been driving down from Nashville for every home game possible. Oddly I'm one of the football first Kentucky fans, not that I don't love basketball though!

We are not fortunate enough to have parking passes and always flounder around trying to best figure how to tailgate. What is the tailgate situation exactly? Outside of the lots I know there are big grass areas where people tailgate, how do you get one of those?

Are there any lots around stadium you can pay to park / tailgate at that is walkable? Don't mind walking a bit.

Want to enjoy the full experience, and have loved every minute of season tickets. Would just be great to figure out how we can tailgate as well.

Thanks for any help.

Check out the non-reserved rv lot by parking structure #6 off virginia avenue. Its about a 20 minute walk or there is supposed to be a shuttle bus that picks up there for $5.

All of the grass tailgate areas are probably "reserved" by now, and certainly will be by tonight. By "reserved" I mean there are already tents in place to mark spots.

Instead of doing your own tailgate, you may want to consider parking at a business or house off Nicholasville road (or on the other side off Tates Creek road) and then just walk around to various tailgates. I've done that in the past and everyone seems to welcome "strangers" to their tailgate.

That is most likely what we will end up doing, and have been doing over the last year and the ULL game.

For Missouri, and for Tennessee (being from TN) we will end up with a larger group coming down. Most likely 6-12 people and was hoping to get idea of where we could tailgate. Even if it required coming down the day before to reserve a spot. So are the grass tailgate areas free claim? Sorry for so many questions, not being from Lexington limits my knowledge! Best bet may be to suck it up and buy a parking pass for the games I need?

Great to see UK football these days and ready to keep coming for future years!

Are there any lots where you have to have a pass that you can't tailgate in?

There is a handicap lot next to the orange lot. If somebody in your group has a handicap mirror hanger, you can park there for $30. I would get there by noon to be on the safe side as it is first come.

You can tailgate from there, but there is no grass. Its all black top. Some people will park on the top floor of the parking garage and tailgate from there. If you get there early enough on game day there is usually a few tailgating/parking spots left where the RV's park. There is also a overflow parking lot next to the RV lot where people are starting to tailgate. Short walk to the stadium and usually pretty easy to get in and out of. Its not for everybody, but it is a cheap option.

Really now? We get there early enough that the parking garages are not full at all, I didn't know tailgating at the top was an option. I may actually do that! Which garages are those? the #2 and #3 on the maps? How much is the RV overflow? I saw some places close to stadium that seemed to be 25$, close to one of the free parking structures. Not sure how early you ahve to arrive to get a spot though.

Groups have been tailgating in the same grass areas for years. I think the guys I tailgate with go on like Wednesday to put tents in the area. We lost some of our grass area with the construction, and then some people were displaced from their area (from construction) and moved into our area. Consequently it was pretty cramped.

So I guess the grass areas are "free claim," but people have gotten used to being in the same spots. Maybe walk around tomorrow and see if there is some area since you know you'll be coming with a group for a couple games.

And yes, if you are going to be bringing stuff for a tailgate, it's best to have a parking pass. I bring a rolling cooler from my parking spot, but I can't imagine having to bring more than that.

Guess I am just going to have to join your tailgate.

Just kidding! Thanks for the information though, really helpful. Maybe this weekend while we are tailgate hopping I will ask around and figure out the rules of the land in more detail. Maybe will have to find a student I can hire to set my tent up for me early ha! You guys are the best. Appreciate all help.

The parking garage I am refering to is #6 off Virginia Avenue. No cost for the RV overflow that is next to #6. Bigger the game, the sooner it will fill up.

Eh, we just get dropped off, head to the gas station to get beer and a styofoam cooler and walk around until we find a spot the looks open. Last year we were under a tree and about 2 hours later it was a madhouse around it lol

I was planning on getting there at 10 tomorrow morning. Surely there will be some grass areas somewhere near the stadium to tailgate. I hope....

There were open spots 11-12 when I got there for ULL, I just didn't know what was reserved and not. Seems first come

We went to set our tent up yesterday afternoon in Orange Lot and our normal place was already claimed. That should help you with how crazy it's going to be tomorrow. If we win, I'll probably be setting tent up next Wednesday night lol.
