Wynyard has led New Zealand to the quarterfinals of the FIBA event, which continues Sunday with a matchup against Russia. The United States, France, Spain, Romania, Argentina and Lithuania are the other teams that have advanced to the quarterfinals.

The 6-foot-10 post player has 41 points through six games — good enough for the fourth-highest scoring total in the entire tournament. Oklahoma commitment Payton Pritchard (class of 2016) has led the U.S. team with 51 points so far, second-most in the event.

The three-on-three format calls for 10-minute games (or first team to 21 points wins). Free throws and made field goals inside the arc count as one point. Shots from outside the arc are worth two points.

Thanks to Ben Roberts for sharing this information. To those of you who say the kid can't chew bubble gum and walk at the same time, consider this a middle finger to you. [cheers]

I don't remember anyone saying that. I remember people saying he needs another year of basketball before contributing.

The kid will be fine he's just no Skal, Karl, or AD.

He has great physical tools for a guy of his size. He'll be a nice player for us.

No, there was actually a guy who said those exact words in another thread.

I'm glad you caught it lol.

There is no good way to eat crow.. Just chew and swallow.

Preach it, preacher.

About time cal starts recruiting guys that excel in half court 3 on 3

It will be nice for us to add somebody who excels in a half-court setting. I think it was great that he was still as effective as he was when being double teamed. He typically either scored over the double teams, or made some smooth passes to the open man. Talk about a very nice addition.

Once again, this kid is going to be a role player next season IF he plays any at all.

He may redshirt, but if he does play expect 5-10mpg, 1-2ppg, 1-2rpg. He will spell Labissiere and Lee at the 5 when we have foul trouble.

In 2016-17, he will compete for a starting spot at the 5. He would have a leg up on any Freshman coming in with an extra semester in the system.

He's no scrub, but he's not a superstar either (at least not for this coming season).

You don't need a team of superstars, you need a team of contributors. We have our superstar, now we need contributors. Role player is fine with me, because the role he would play is a huge one, but it's an insult to the kid to say that he's entirely dysfunctional on the court. He's proven that he's very much a good basketball player.

Congratulations to Wynyard on getting MVP in the tournament.

I'm expecting (without Murray):

Ulis- 30-35mpg
Briscoe- 30-35mog
Poythress- 20-25mpg
Labissiere- 25-30mpg
Lee- 20-25mpg
Matthews- 15-20mpg
Mulder- 15-20mpg
Wynyard-5-10mpg
Hawkins- <5mpg
Willis- <5mpg

Is it a done deal is he coming this year, I haven't seen anything, I agree he will be a role player and give us added depth at the 4-5:cool2:
