Going to start this one out by saying that it's been a very slow week...

> Austin Kendall. I think he will be a Cat. Best QB recruit we've had since Couch and he would absolutely dominate in our offense. If it's true that he can thread the needle and is accurate as all get out, then I think we will come to love his performances (if we get him...)

> The football team is loving UK's basketball run. Badet, Towles, Barker and others have all chimed in on Twitter. It's great to see the comradare span multiple sports. I like seeing that our players are invested in the university and not just football. That bodes well for UK Athletics as a whole.

> Jacob Tamme has been moved to the Falcons. I hope he finds another good QB like Manning to get him the ball. He's an incredible weapon when used effectively. He's also a personal favorite of mine and I want him to do well.

I don't know of much more that I can put in this Mashup. Like I said- slow week. No info from the media regarding practice that I could see.

To circumvent this, I willl pose two Mashup Questions:

1. How do you feel about our depth at Wideout? I think we have an enormous amount of talent there and think that whoever wins the QB job will have a lot of targets to lob it to. We have burners, jukers, possession guys, but how do you think they will perform?

2. What is one area that you feel we should recruit harder? Should we go into Texas more because of Mainord or should we hit Bama especially hard because of Ansley and Brumbaugh? Can we get into the Western US recruiting game with Buh? Why?

Happy Sunday, all. Hope it's a good'n.

Go Big Blue!

No practice reports because there was no practice this week.

Re WRs....UK shows promise there but these guys need to step up their game. Some interesting potential but will somebody emerge as a true go to guy? UK seems to run into these 9 catch 160 yard guys weekly but seldom have that type themselves. Finally, WR needs to get healthy. Timmons, drops and all, is missing this spring an injury as is Baker. Those are 2 key guys. Good to get Badet and Montgomery back. Will Snodgrass contribute?

Going into Bama and pulling a top kid out is probably the hardest state in the south if not the country to do. Without some type of connection to a school its almost impossible. I know Winston went to FSU, but it was believed until the very end he wasn't going to play college football and go directly to baseball and neither AU or Bama recruited him. So much pressure from everyone in the state to go to one of the two big schools in the state, I am talking about getting fired from your job kind of pressure, that its pretty much a waste of time and resources. Another reason is almost everyone there are life long Alabama residents and fans of one of the two schools.

I like our WR depth but it's how they develop is what I'm concerned about. If they don't have the strength to run block. If they don't have the techniques to beat jams. If they don't have the discipline to run sharp routes. If they don't have the focus to catch consistently. If they don't have a QB that delivers consistently.

I do think the whole passing game.....and thus the offense.....will be much improved since our personnel is improving well. But I don't think it will be nearly as well as it will be in 2016.

Regarding Kendall, I'd say we will probably be talking about his commitment in the next 1 or 2 mashups.

As far as recruiting, I like how we are hitting the east coast/DC area.

1. Cunningham and Herrick are seniors, Timmons a junior. Sophomores: Badet, Bone, Baker, Montgomery, Johnson, Williams. Freshmen: Snodgrass, Greenwood, Gosier, Richardson. Timmons and the sophomores are the biggest keys for this group. Another year in the system can only improve them. Most of the freshmen should contribute. This is a deeper and better group of receivers than we have had in a long time. Adding Long and Conrad at tight end will help. There is no way that Stoops will try to break in a new freshman starting quarterback in a defining season for his program and his coaching career. Towles will win the starting job. If the offensive line improves even a little bit, Towles will be 1 of the 3-4 top quarterbacks in the SEC and Kentucky's passing game will take a big step forward.

2. I have no criticisms of the recruiting effort. CVM is a breath of fresh air. Forward steps that have been taken in Ohio are the most important factor in the improvement of our roster. Stoops will always have recruiting influence in Florida. Recruiting emphasis in Maryland and DC is helping. I don't think Kentucky will ever place an emphasis on recruiting west of the Mississippi River, although there will be occasional signings in Texas. Coach Stoops has already said we need to push harder in Georgia, which will be the most important increase in recruiting emphasis.

For the first time since Stoops has been coach here we start this year with a receiving corp that will by and large, have a least one year of experience. That alone should lead to improvement. In time if there are one or two big time go-to receivers somewhere on the roaster they will emerge.

I think we have a pretty strong depth chart at all positions right now, but the one spot I would like to see us land one or two more high upside players is OT.

As for national recruiting, IMO the further away you go, the less the probability you have of, retaining the player, much less getting them to commit in the first place. It seems that we have never really gotten much from states like Louisiana or Texas in the past. Guys that come here get home sick, it's often too far for friends and families to come and see them play, so frequently they wind up leaving. Two exception I can think of were Richard Lyons Jr. and Tommy Cook. Going west is even a higher risk game except for JUCOs. A JUCO really is locked in once they enroll since their eligibility clock doesn't really allow them to mess around with another transfer.

BTW for those that don't subscribe to the premium board, member MobilCat recently posted a fantastic overview of the inter workings of our recruiting system and how we screen filter and discover outstanding players in many different areas. It is amazing how our staff uses 21st century technology in honing in on some of our best targets that others somehow miss.
