Stoops on Bar Fight: Nobody Has Been Charged

said earlier this morning on KSR that he had more information than is public and that there is no reason to dismiss the accused players

Hopefully this gets washed down the drain. Barker may be our best hope in getting to a bowl. I'm not sold Towels.

If "The Richmond Three" are still on the team after this is resolved, and I hope they are, they should be the best conditioned players on the team next year, if you get what I'm saying.

I'd like to hope you're right and I'd also like to think our guys weren't total idiots in this thing regardless of their age and who started the fight. They've all three been involved in two unfortunate instances at this point and while they're all equally innocent / guilty Barker was supposed to be the big leader and the guy that takes us to the next level. He needs to get his act together and keep his nose clean. No excuse for anymore trouble from these guys IMO.

im not hre to hijack the thread but how are you not sold on Towles?

he showed some flashes his Frosh year! and wasted a redshirt year!

he redshirted worked hard, took the offseaon and on his own time worked with a renowned QB coach

he has a better year at Qb than weve had in years! and we had some banged up OL, WR, and RBs

we return everyone that mattered on Offense minus Javess Blue, and Braylon Heard!

that right there tells me one thing, hell be the best Qb in the SEC next year unless Allen or Mauk goes plum bats**t crazy and throws up stupid numbers

to many analysts are poking and prodding saying hes the best the SEC has to offer at QB

I've never bought in to the idea that running players gets the message across...I mean I played sports growing up...and always thought that it was the dumbest dam thing...

"Run some laps..."...really?...okay we've been doing that anyway...we're sweating our asses off as it is...what's a few more...most of us are just going to drag ass when we get to the other end and you can't see us as good anyway...a lot of times running was a relief...you got away from the coaches and doing other drills...

always was particularly amused when the star player would mess up and the coach would single him out and make him do some sprints...great...the best athlete and conditioned player is running...that's why he's the star in the first place coach!... you want to get a point across...give him a clipboard...take his jersey for a game or two...

They're athletes...running, jumping, lifting etc, is what they do...what's a few extra laps to well conditioned young men who have been sprinting, doing push ups, sit ups, sweating, working out since they were in pop warner league?

I don't think gassers are going to get the point across...they're going to be doing those any way along with the rest of the team...

at this level if you want to send a message, you got to show them that the train rolls on with out them...sit them out, cut back their reps...make it clear that UK football is charging forward and that they are but a small replaceable piece...

Show barker that the fate of UK football is not up to him...he needs to realize Pat and Reece both still have a few seasons of eligibility left...

let him watch those two take most of the reps in practice...let the walk on take some snaps before he does...that will send a message...

This may be a big bunch of nothing..."boys being boys...college kids being college kids.."...maybe it is...but it is also the second incident of some smoke...regardless, Stoops needs cut the crap right now, he needs to make sure it doesn't escalate and turn into something else...

Thanks, that is encouraging to me, especially having more info than is public now, and that seems likely.

Not a good thing but coaches can't babysit young (and therefore sometimes foolish) men all the time. If TU can get EIGHT thugs off that should have been charged with attempted murder for kicking men while down TWO separate times with only ONE of them suspended for the 52-0 laugher against Tennessee Martin AND jurich searching out criminals and rejects then hopefully this won't be a reason to throw the book at these players when it looks like the other party was the troublemaker. Anyone know just how big this guy was?

for me to be sold on towles great qbs (aka manziel ) can take a average team and not only compete but win I did not sense that about towles last year I hope I am wrong but I am not convinced towles is our answer yet

I'm not throwing Towels under the bus, he may improve in the offseason, but during last season he was making poor decisions, under throwing balls, over throwing the balls, etc. The Louisville game is a great case in point. You're not going to win games with those type of performances by your QB.

Good grief. I take you're not sold on any UK player then.

I will assure you that coaches can get their point across with physical punishment of players. They can run you until you puke and think you are going to die and maybe wish you would to get it over with. Then there is other things that can be done besides running. Ever heard of something called the gauntlet. This us a killer where the coach lines the team up and has you run through where every player can get a shot at you. Sometimes this is done after the coach has done mass punishment of the entire team ant told them he did so because of your stupidity.

This situation seems clearer to me all the time. I am not going to share my thoughts in full, since they are not very charitable.

Has anyone noticed that the Scurry kid apparently played with Josh Clemons in high school?

Hard to deny that Towles has most of the raw tools, ideal (outstanding) size, strong arm, good running ability. Also hard to deny that QB is a very hard position to learn, look at the #1 QB prospect in the nation at Georgia and compare his numbers his first year starting with Towles, (and he had a TON of talent around him compared to Towles) and how he progressed, to the number one draft pick in the entire NFL.

He should be improved this year, and more importantly perhaps, his support should also be improved. I would even venture to guess improved more than he is, which would make a huge difference in his numbers whether he is that much better or not.

we'll never have everyone happy! whether you like it or not i can all but guarentee that Towles starts the next 2 years! Towles made misakes that young QBs make! the guy up their brought up aTm and Maziel, he also had an Oline that was chocked full of NFL prospect and Mike Evans at WR and a pretty good RB. Johnny got to put his athletiticm on full tilt because he had time, he could make a mistake and correct it because the rest of the players he had . that aTm team his frosh year was loaded, and when the talent declined his soph year, he didnt have near the season he had his Frosh.

for nearly every mistake that PT made you can attest it to another player in one way or another, its a team sport if one fails its because someone infront of them failed too!

FTR, I am not sold on Towles and many would label me a sunshine pumper...

His numbers (outside the UF and MSU games - both losses..but great performances) were very comparable to Whitlow and Smith from the prior year.

He has the physical tools, but his quickness with decision making, reads and other abilities worry me. He is going into his 4th year, so can't say he is young...with all that being said, I root for him to be great, just like the other QBs.

I think it is pretty clear that Dobbs will be the best quarterback in the league next year. Might not be the most pro-potential, but in terms of college skill he should be number 1. Personally, I have been a bigger Towles fan than I have Barker. Maybe just because Towles was here first and I really want us to find a new QB and to finally have some 4 star guys pan out (because when Joker was here they didn't). However, I find myself really just wanting the best guy for the job to help us win. After this season, I don't know if Towles is the answer. Here is why...

Last year Towles went over 300 yards in just 3 games. Those games were against Florida, Miss. State, and UT Martin. In 3 more games he threw for over 200 yards. So that means that half of our games he threw for under 200 yards. In fact, in our last 6 games he only got over 200 in one of them (MSU). That means that almost 1,200 of his 2,700 yards came in 3 games alone. That means in the 9 other games he averaged just around 175 yards per game. We were supposed to run an air raid offense, but this doesn't cut it. Sure, you can blame it on the offensive line, but even in some of the games where we should have dominated the line he didn't rack up a lot of passing yards.

Now, that being said, he could step up next year and be amazing, but this year, despite the very improved numbers, he didn't impress me as being a consistent and reliable SEC quarterback.

Yes, he played for Whitewater in Ga. where my friend Amos McCreary is the coach. Amos said he never had any problems with Scurry and they called him the "gentle giant".

If the stories I am hearing are correct the "Gentile Giant" has picked up some bad habits since he left Whitewater. This wasn't the first bar incident the " Gentle Giant has been involved in the past several years. I have heard the dude might be a bit of a racist.

Maybe he has changed, the incident with Noel didn't sound like a nice kid to me. And how big is this "gentle giant", if he is the typical 300# lineman then I can see how even an athlete as big as Baker could have been in fear of great bodily harm. Besides, I have been amazed AND dismayed by the new generation's idea of fair play, and the huge emphasis on "winning" at any cost, even if you go to prison for it. I think the new "sport" of unlimited mayhem, kicking and stomping a man while down, etc that has replaced the manly art of self defense has something to do with that. I try my best to ever add to their fan count, although I officiated with the commissioner that ran the multimillion dollar fights in Las Vegas that quit that job to be their first commissioner. I thought it was a huge mistake at the time. but the culture has really changed from when I grew up.

But really, not enough facts released by anyone to draw any conclusions, the info by Stoops is very encouraging to me though. We can't continue to give UL the HUGE advantage they are gaining not only by taking any reject or criminal that can play, but also in the EQUALLY huge recruiting advantage they gain from commits that have problems that they know UL will do an excellent job of covering up.

If we don't shore up that O line....no one will be sold on any of our young QBs.

Sounds like more than one EKU player was involved. Still unclear how all of it started.

"LEX 18 filed an open records request with EKU Police for the report involving the assault in Telford Hall. Almost all of the information on the paperwork provided was blacked out. However, the victim in that assault is listed as "Andrew H. Barker," an 18-year-old from Burlington, Kentucky. That would be UK quarterback, Drew Barker. Another person listed as being involved in the fight is Patrick Graffree, an EKU football player who transferred from UK."
