Stoops has a mess and is unlikely to fix it. Yesterday was yet another example of that being the case. In a game that predictably changed on the inability to stop a mobile QB, Stoops said something incredible after the game. According to Larry Vaught, Stoops said the QB change caught them “off balance”. Folks, above all else (there is plenty more), there should be no question that Stoops is incompetent after this foolish statement.
Everyone coach, fan, casual fan and child knows that all Lamar Jackson can do is run. He really can’t throw and his decision making is shaky, but he can run and run and run. Despite that, Stoops appears to have been unaware of that fact. When you add that to an offensive line that appears clueless, an offense style that is beyond description, receivers that drop more passes than they catch, a defense that is a disorganized mess over and over, and blown simplistic coaching decisions, you get a program that actually looks worse in Year 3 than Year 1. Once the losing snowball gets rolling downhill, it is rarely stopped. It is impossible for me to believe that it will be stopped by a coach that appears incapable of making the simplest changes to save games, let alone his mess of a program.
