Stoops doesn't coach to win, he coaches not to lose. This is just the way he is wired as a coach. UT is one of the worst defensive teams in CFB in passing. But have been good against the run. What does he do.......run the ball to play clock control. They played right into UTs hands. IDK if UTs DC could've written a better game plan for UK.

2 things were going on, either UK receivers were unable to get separation or WL had trouble seeing the field, he was throwing into tight coverage too often.

It's a few things grumpy, the WR's have had route running issues all year. Brown and Keyes (if they hang around) are both true freshman and that will change with experience. The Oline cannot protect Levis, just can't and that's effecting the WR's too as they run poor routes hoping to get open quickly and finally Levis isn't anywhere near 100%. I know those are all excuses but IMO...that's the deal with the WR's not finding separation. It was a sad night. Not losing to a really good football team it was going to be a difficult game to win even if we played well....but UK didn't compete.

Stoops plays let’s not make any mistakes that could put our defense in a bad spot.
Nothing will change - his style and Barnhart generosity has made him and his staff wealthy
He has no incentive anymore to play aggressive.
We never get pressure on a QB or get TFL our DB never bat a ball down.
We never rush a punter or field goal because we get could get a roughing penalty
On offense we don’t use the middle of the field. Big game this week let’s see if he changes anything

Honestly, CMS fired Gran for the sake of making a change. Gran’s offense was perfect for the way Stoops likes to coach, and no matter what OC he gets here, the offense will always resort back to that kind of offense. Ball control, methodical, low risk type. You can put a pig in a dress, it’s still a pig. And you can hire pro coaches as a PR move to help recruiting, which it has, but at the end of the day, we are what Stoops wants to be on offense.

And thats why no Bigger school has come calling - he has a glass ceiling in SEC because his timid football mind wins out

It’s called the Peter Principle - some people can’t get over the hump to become elite - only can reach a certain level

You guys realize your crapping on the winning coach in UK history right and a Coach that is still young in his mid 50s.
Kentucky is not going to get anyone that is better than Mark Stoops.
In this age of NIL and the transfer portal it is going to be very difficult to compete in the SEC in football.

Yet last week we were going 10-2 while beating Tennessee and Georgia, Georgia loses to Mississippi State, Tennessee loses to Georgia, and you’re buying tickets to Atlanta so you can see us whip Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide? Now you say we’re toast!

No need to alibi for Stoops

There have been many attractive job openings and he hasn’t gotten a sniff

That says everything

He wants his Offense schemed with a Defensive mindset. Limit the other teams opportunities to score rather than Exploit all of my opponents weaknesses, relentlessly.

His dream was holding Tennessee to 12 points on four field goals. He dictated an offense that would yield that result...in his dream.

Limiting possessions when you know the other team has a better offense isn’t coaching scared it’s coaching smart. The problem wasn’t the strategy, it was the scheme and play calling.

This is it. I said it then…he didn’t fire Gran for performance they had just given him an extension the prior off season. They changed in order to change the narrative in recruiting

We can moan and gripe all day about Stoops philosophy on offense. But he has this program where it has NEVER been. 4 straight bowl wins over quality teams. This year the o-line is subpar and without that we will struggle. I still think we can salvage a good season despite our weaknesses.

Recruiting is not going well and we are way behind on NIL. Scangs offense isn't going to do recruiting any favors. He might pull in a decent QB with connections, but skill players are not going to be lined up wanting to play here. We are right back to having a Gran type offense where we are ranked at the bottom of the SEC. Continuing to play in a Coen type offense was fools gold. This guy calls plays more like a typical Stoops OC. Try to keep the defense off the field and burn clock..

This is correct and he has been the primary piece of building it. That being said, now that we’re there from the administration side, no coach at uK has ever had the administrative support, financial support, or facilities to pitch that he has. I mean Rich Brooks may have still been where he was with this stuff but he was winning 6&7 with nothing on the facilities and support end. Who knows?

To be fair a whole lot of you guys were saying Stoops should run and run some more to keep Hooker off the field and limit the possessions. I thought UK had a much better offensive game plan last season when Levis threw quite a bit, which backed the safeties up which helped your running game be really effective. . And that was compounded by UT being very thin at every position group on D.

This season Rodney Garner can rotate 12 guys on the DL, including the LB/DE edgae rushers, so they are not going to wear down over the course of a game. I said last week that while UK has a solid defense it was still not likely to keep UT under 30 pts, so UK was going to have to be aggressive on offense and take some deep shots regularly. Try and get a quick score here and there, and maybe give your RBs some more running room.

Just an odd offensive strategy last Saturday.

Yes and it was reasonable to run the ball and it was effective for a couple drives. I think the perplexing part was also keeping the pass game all short. I know we don’t protect well but that’s going to get worse when you get in situations the other team knows you have to throw so you have to go downfield some. We were effective against ole miss even with all their blitzing. We just had mistakes and turnovers…which stoops hates to the point he can sometimes push getting too conservative instead of going ‘sometimes you’re going to break a few eggs’

I'm pretty sure UT Defensive Coordinator knew this and took a week off. Smart guy and who could blame him?

Need to turn the offense back over to Gran.
Contrary to what many will say on here, that's actually a really good idea.

Gran schemed to the players he had and didn't try to force them into an offense that wasn't suited for them. That's the problem I'm seeing with Scangarello, he's not calling plays that fit the personnel he has.

The year that Gran totally revamped our offense mid season to put Bowden at QB was one of the best offensive coordinator jobs I've ever seen. Nobody does that, and if they did, it wouldn't work, but Gran pulled it off. I truly think he could take the players on this team and make a decent offense out of it.

Total opposite OLs. This ain’t video game FB.

We can want to throw down field all we please, but if you cannot pass block sufficiently, your QB will not be upright long enough for WRs to run their assigned routes. Can’t run block for some reason either, and that is why you saw the Cats throwing short routes and screens all night….it is all they had left.

In the macro (season) perspective, this is on HC Stoops because he hired Scang & Co and let him have a free hand with the OL scheme for our inexperienced O-linemen

In the micro (game by game) perspective, Scang keeps pounding a round peg into a square hole week after week with his Gucci OL scheme. We are not improving with game-experience on OL….our QB is getting pounded into the turf about a dozen times per game and is now operating injured.

The coaching staff has to recognize and respect the experience-level their players don’t have and adjust.

GBB!
