SOT: Meanwhile, in Ohio HS Basketball

Talked to a girl who won their elite game yesterday — Ohio that is , and the OHSAA has not announced who they play or where their play their FF … weird as heck . Can evidently set the bracket as they see fit .

Sports has been declining for years.
You can’t throw the kid out because it’s the Playoffs and the other teams players would have depression and anxiety if you removed one of their players.
Think about the years of counseling that the player ejected will need because you singled him out and ejected him. He will be threatened, called names and lose friends.
Joking but not really!

When you have close to a thousand high schools participating across multiple divisions I imagine it’s a lot harder to coordinate everything as opposed to barely 200 in a single classification as Kentucky.

Coach is scum for allowing kid to play.

Yes. That’s a leadership failure.

My oldest played basketball and baseball (travel and school) until his sophomore year in high school and I saw many, many men and women over the years justify just horrible behavior from young people and their parents and failed to teach some of the kids accountability for their actions on and off the court/field.

Win at all costs. Explains a lot about Murica right now. Leadership in this country is dying at all levels.

That being said, on this board, we've had people say they'd anyone no matter what as coach as long as they win. Dangerous mindset. Very.

I live in the Bay Area in Northern ca.
I have two boys who are 12 and 9.
Both do lots of sports and I am blown away at the anxiety and pressure of youth sports to perform and win at all cost. My town is like a cult for baseball and soccer specifically. I tried to create a youth basketball league for elementary and middle school and it was a disaster.
I did not fully comprehend how insane 8 and 9 year old parents are in my area.
I had Jr college players coming in and reffing and I eventually had to jump in and ref to control games and parents/grandparents. Had to kick a set of parents out the gym at the 3/4th grade level playoff games.

I decided to no longer run that basketball league as I figured I would
Eventually fight someone over this craziness.

Baseball is 10x worse. We just had opening day weekend and I just can’t understand how these youngsters are supposed to grow and develop in the right environment when there are parents coaching/screaming from the bleachers and kids trying to play and have fun while trying to manage the anxiety these crazy ass parents put in them.

It’s so maddening and sad.

So the perpetrator is now the victim? Replace "sports" with society.

Cairo, Illinois had instances like this

They banned entire team Illinois High School Athletic Association.

Fans also started fights after losing.

This coach should be canned for playing someone who committed a felony during the game. That was beyond pathetic.

Buddy, if Cairo IL fell in the river I don't think anyone would miss it. What a cesspool. And has been for about every single one of my 49 yrs.

I grew up in OH and found that hard to believe, so I looked. The sites have been set for awhile and the bracket is all laid out so it shows exactly who every team will play if they advance. I'm curious if she just doesn't know.

And it’s a minority attacking a Caucasian that clearly deserves it just for being there.
NBA is exactly the same. There will be 20 punches thrown a year. 18 will be swinging at the white guy on the court.

I have coached HS kids for quite a while now. It's unbelievable how clueless they are about things like this. Kind of fun as well, but unbelievable nonetheless. Have a wealth of information at their fingertips, yet just go through their days blissfully ignorant. I'm somewhat jealous.

This lady comes from a long line of succesful D1 athletes in her family .. she played a year at UConn before transferring . Her nephew was the Ky HS POY in baseball just 4 years ago . Her team played in the finals just last year .. she knows more about sports and basketball than 98% of humanity . The OHSAA did NOT follow the brackets that were on there website .. they are NOT playing at Dayton U as in previous final fours , they got ASSIGNED Logan HS at 3-4 pm yesterday. That’s exactly how it shook down . At noon yesterday the team was unsure of the bracket and the opponent . I know I was having dinner with her . D5 girls side .

Unfortunately this is true. I cover high school and AAU basketball in Ohio and coach AAU. The girls side has turned into a $hit show this year scheduling wise. Will be interesting to see if the boys sites get blown up like the girls side did.

Does anyone still live in Cairo? That place is a ghost town

Yep. I was in the military for 8 years. I know all about reverse racism. If you don’t. Good for you.
So a high school kid losing his shit equals NBA players swinging on their white co workers just because. Okey Doke!!

Well said, my friend ! I couldn't agree more.

The mindset of winning at all costs is something that I've thought about this year in particular. That's one reason why I am so very happy to have Coach Pope. Total class act, loves Kentucky and is one of our own. NOBODY can accuse him of not loving Kentucky and wanting to do the right thing. And he would be the first one to want to be judged on his results.

That's one reason why I never wanted douchbags like Pearl anywhere close to this program. Looking at the Auburn players little side court "let's make fun of and disrespect Kentucky" antics, I know something like that is not going to happen with Coach Pope's teams. I'll even settle for a few losses if I have to, to keep being classy.

The kind of disrespect and level of animosity SEC fans and players have had towards Kentucky this year has just about made me turn against the entire conference. If they can't act with class, and they apparently can't, then screw every single other university in this conference.

Keep it classy, stay strong and proud.

Go Big Blue !

The downtown part pretty much is. I drove through there about 5 years ago and there were only a few businesses open from what I remember.
