While we're bitching about bogus calls. Foster wrapped up and literally tackled well after getting the punt off. No roughing penalty....Discuss.

I thought they got that one right. Didn't take out his legs, hit him after he had completed the kicking motion and attempted to hold him up. I'd of been happy as anyone else with the free first down for a roughing call, but I think running into the kicker was the right call. If it happened the other way around and we had a guy hit their punter like that I'd be mad as hell if they called roughing on us.

If he was literally tackled it would mean he actually went to the ground so he was not literally tackled. It was the correct call and not even close to roughing.

I think it could have definitely been a roughing the kicker call and it is probably Patrick Towles fault it wasn't... defender was probably admiring Pat's hair on the sideline and forgot to slam the punter on the ground.

I disagree that it wasn't close..defender left his feet and made solid impact with Foster (you cant ease up a hit when you are airborne)...saving grace was that he held Foster up AFTER contact. Have seen the same type of hit + hold up result in a roughing the passer on QB.

I thought it was a good call. I have seen teams at home get that call before though, but I knew UK would not get that call.

Just seems like most of us watched a different play.

Go watch it again then. 215 lb guy was airborne for 3+ yards before making contact with Foster...if he doesn't grab Foster from hitting the ground is it a 15 yarder? If so, then I don't think holding a guy up after the initial contact negates the more severe penalty.

The replay is out there. Most of the time defenders are penalized for leaving their feet...if that was a QB getting hit its a 15 yarder.

2 things I've never seen. A basketball player draw a charge without falling down and a punter get a roughing the kicker penalty without falling down. It was not close to roughing.

Didn't fall because he was held up. Definitely close to roughing considering it was at least calling running in to...

And again, this wasn't a crucial non call because we couldn't move the ball anyways.

If he was flying thru the air as you have said their is no way he could hold him up..........That is just not possible.

1:13 mark. If Pittman didn't go airborne, land on Foster and then hold him up after his feet hit the ground then I guess I just don't know what I am looking at. The EZ view shows the impact which was probably harder than people want to believe. Foster was laughing and couldn't believe the call - said "he ****ing tackled me"

But maybe you are right - impossible. He didn't go airborne and hit Foster while he was coming down, no way!

Flying through the air is a stretch, but he did run into him. If he were making an effort to block the punt he might have gotten the call, but the guy just jumped up in the air, he was almost behind the punter. I guess the ref could have called something but there wasn't a violent hit, just contact, punters leg was very near the ground too, makes him fair game, so ref could have thought that was the case..

He jumped in the air - both feet off the ground for a couple of yards and landing on the punter. If he doesn't catch Foster it's a 15 yarder in my mind. Keeping someone from falling down after an initial hit on a protected player shouldn't negate the original hit IMO.

Leave your feet while launching towards a protected player will usually get you a 15 yarder - I just don't think catching a player who is falling should negate it.

Again, this wasn't crucial because we couldn't move the ball anyways but I definitely think it can be debated.

A stupid rule. Should be roughing or no penalty, none of this judgement call BS. Hell, if it's 4th and more than 5, just have your guys go in there, slam into the punter's body and catch him to prevent him from falling...5 yard penalty...big deal.

Also, flying through the air was not my language.

His opinion Grump is all that he wants to hear nothing else.

I didn't sensationalize it with "flying through the air" like he was superman. He did leave his feet and go airborne. You are something else...btw, still sticking to the story that he didn't leave his feet and land on Foster?

I'm amazed that more people think this was the right call and the no-call on the last pass was the wrong call.

This could EASILY have been roughing. EASILY. Intent doesn't matter; that the defender tried to hold him up doesn't matter.
