Chad Scott is not leaving on any kind of bad terms. I've spoken highly of him as a recruiter. He is highly thought of and is a good recruiter, no doubt.
He has now left Kentucky for North Carolina on two separate occasions. Professionally his move to UNC is somewhat lateral at least inasmuch as he's a position coach. UNC is certainly on fire with Larry Fedora right now and in that respect he might be making a calculated move based on the fact that some position coaches in Chapel Hill have been moving up and having success (e.g. Walt Bell, Blake Anderson, Seth Littrell).
I do believe it is easier to recruit Florida players to UNC than Kentucky. This is based on 15 years of experience and frequently covering the two schools. For one, UNC is on sort of a 'path' that a lot of players blaze when they're hitting a lot of schools in the spring, for camps, etc. Kids are also more likely to visit because they can hit three or four schools in one trip (UNC, NC State, Duke, etc). Finally, I think UNC may be a bit more committed to recruiting Florida than Kentucky.
Over time what Kentucky has realized is that Ohio and Kentucky are their bread and butter in terms of recruiting. I can report that Eddie Gran will be recruiting South Florida while Hinshaw will be recruiting quarterbacks. The hope is he will have success in South Florida, but expectations are modest and I think it's well established by now that Kentucky's success in the Buckeye State is paramount and they are not going to move significantly away from that.
Most of the guys Chad Scott landed were in the first couple of classes. Over time it became more clear that it's difficult to get those guys up for the number of visits required to keep the level of player that they want.
