1. The team rushed for 240 yards tonight, and averaged 5 yards per carry. This was against a defense that was only allowing 138 yards rushing per game and 4.5 yards per carry heading into Saturday night. Some of this is due to Rodriguez breaking tackles near the line of scrimmage, but Smoke and McClain were also getting rushes of 4-6 yards in the second half when MSU was loading the box.

2. The offensive line only allowed 1 sack tonight against the 4th best pass rush in the SEC that was averaging 2.3 sacks per game.

The OL ended up playing very well last night because Scangarello finally came to his senses and shitcanned the NFL outside and wide zone blocking schemes and went back to the kind of blocking scheme we've been so successful with in the past, namely inside zone and a little power gap. Sometimes schemes are everything. Our guys just aren't good at using the blocking schemes the OC prefers and as a result, we've looked totally helpless all season. But as soon as we went back to our bread and butter, all of a sudden the OL looked like the line we've all came to know and love. I am a little shocked Scang actually did it. I had him figured for a square peg in a round hole type of guy and I really thought he would continue with his system at all costs. It is good to see he is capable of and willing to adapt.

I still can’t tell the inside zone vs outside zone…some of Crod runs looked like NFL scheme were the entire Oline angles the same way

The bigger thing I saw was wr canned the long route’s nonsense and threw way more short When we took deep shots Levi’s was throwing 50/50 balls to Barion or Crowdus. None of the 15 yard dig routes

The biggest difference to me was Buford at tackle was way better then Flax and don’t get me started in Wohlbaugh. Also Manning was tossing dudes on the interior….best game he’s played to date

C Rod is a great player. He elevates the the whole offense and his running first downs keep the D off the field. UK has its best skill position unit ever. The power runs are helping take pressure off the line which is at least developing with Buford looking like a legit starter for next year. Nice win and the D was clearly prepared this year.

Let’s keep doing it because they have been getting murdered trying those 7 step drops. Levis won’t hold up doing that all year.

Agree with K. Shortening the routes to prevent Will getting beat up was huge. Not an OL guru, but I saw several runs where it looked to me like the RB was able to cut back and find room like outside zone is designed to provide.

Also think Scan basically made all of our TEs into OL last night. Not sure I saw more than 1 target to a TE all night.

Lots of posters bashing throughout the game about how bad Scan was last night. The 3 screens was ridiculous but we scored 27 points, missed a makeable FG and knelt on the ball at their 1-yard line to end the game. Plus, kept Levis healthy for the most part. Not sure how those results show what an idiot he is.

I, too, thought Buford played a very solid game last night. Other than guys jumping the snap, the OL played their best game against MSU.

Agree

We went back to gap and inside zone and it made a big difference.

Will got rid of the ball quickly even when he just threw it away. Wasn't afraid to go underneath to avoid contact. Huge difference. In a sense him being beat up is helping his development as a qb

Amazing what a RB that can make the first guy miss and run over the last guy that tackles him does for an O-Line!!!

The difference is C-Rod!! He makes EVERYONE on the offense look better!!

However, The O-Line did pick up the twists and blitzes MUCH BETTER in Pass Pro last night. Buford actually played pretty darned good!! The shorter routes helped. And I DEFINITELY agree that the inside screen play to the outside WR needs to go!!!

The play calling in the 2nd half(except those screens) is what I was hoping to see all season!! Using the running game to set up the passing scheme with an O-Line that can move the chains.

From all the kvetching on here last night I thought I was watching a different game. I know nothing about blocking schemes but I did notice the quicker throws, and I thought the line playeda lot better. What ever Stopps told them at half time he should bottle it.

The quicker throws should result in less pass rushes and more coverage. And I think we have the WR's and a QB to take advantage.

I looked up McClain stats: 9 carries, 30 yards, 3.3 ypc. However, he had one run of 15, so the other 8 carries were for 15 yards or <2 ypc.

He IS a good pass catcher so he definitely needs to play some. But, we better hope Jefferson comes back full speed, McClain and Wright get a LOT better and perhaps a transfer/true freshman comes in or our running game is going to struggle big time next year.

When the Cats are about midfield, I would love to see Scang call the same formation to set up the screen pass to Barion Brown that created the pick 6 for MSU.

The actual play call would be to fake the screen to Barion Brown ( UT defenders will likely bite hard on it if they’ve been watching film), and either Barion do a stutter step to fake the screen and do a wheel/go type route if the CB bites, OR perhaps a similar route with one of the inside WRs faking the block and releasing almost like a slant-corner type route.

Kind of makes me sick that Buford didn't go in for hurt Flax at right tackle against Ole Misd

They did play a lot better. I think the play calling was better and it seemed like we went back to more gap sceme stuff. Would have to rewatch it.
