So yes or no do we make a change at center this week ?

There was so much hype and excitement around Burton when he committed. And in no way am I hating on him or quitting on him or in any other way offending him or devaluing him as a member of our team or as a human.

Does everyone feel safe? Did I cup enough 2023 balls for feelings? 😂😂

He sucks at center and we need to make a change.

Hell no. Give him a chance to improve. Moving Cox again weakens that guard spot and you have Horsey out at the other guard.

Burton’s first 3 games at center. You can’t give up on him. Highly recruited but only 3 games at center in his career. Tough position to learn. He will get it going.

If the staff listened to this board we will be looking at a new qb, new center, new guard and new wrs this Sat. And here I thought were 3-0 all double digit wins with plenty room to still improve.

CMS will not continue to play Burton at C with the number of mistakes he continues to make.

If it were just bad snaps, that can be corrected with reps.

If it were just untimely penalties, that could be corrected with more focus/discipline.

If it were just missed calls on protections, more game reps might solve that.

If it was just missed blocking assignments, maybe extra film work and more reps would help the problem.

When it is all of the above, you are a backup Center at best.

Most of the current O line problems could be resolved with two personnel moves.

The other personnel move will probably need to take place at the end of the season if line play doesn't improve drastically.

No Doubt the coaches (Coen and Stoops) need to take a serious look at all options at center. We do not see every day situations at practice so too hard to say what should be done. Game 3 even against the lowest of low schools should not have the snap issues we saw Saturday. We are about to see what we actually have starting Saturday. Vandy (might be easy or hard, too hard to tell) but even if we get past Vandy we will have UF after that. We will start seeing a much larger and quicker guys coming after Leary. Talk about possibly being confused by stunts. It is coming quick.

I don't believe for one minute that CMS will continue to risk the health of his only QB and thus risk his season because one guy continues to struggle on the O Line.

I also believe we will see other changes to the depth chart, if not for Vandy game, for sure for the UF game.

We are playing some lesser talented players ahead of some better players right now.

Hoping that is just for the sure win games. Those are over. Time to play the best players and roll with them.

I'd look to change it up.

1. It isn't just Akron game......Burton worm burned snaps to Leary in other 2 games that got his Rythm off on short passes.
2. Burton will kill us in going for 4th downs...his low snaps get you off rhythm and that leads to incompletion.
3. Burton isn't a top notch blocker in addition to his snaps.

I get he is a high rated kid but he's not lived up to nothing thus far. Cox didn't have snap issues last year...and since Yenser isn't into rotatijng kids....I'd prefer to see what Bowles can do at guard and move Cox to Center.

Do we have a better option?
And no, anybody wouldn't be better.
Just like when fans wanted Gatewood or Allen to replace Wilson at qb.

El li cox played center all last year and don’t remember 3 or more snaps a game at feet, over head etc of Qb

Thru three games Leary is picking balls out of shotgun multiple times a game. You get about eleven possessions a game…..these snaps are killing two per game now

Add on to that the fact that Stoops outright said that they would be looking at options at center, and I think it's pretty clear that they're looking for improvement or change. Barring one, the other will become mandatory.

Doesn't mean Burton is a failure, but it does mean we aren't looking to have him go through bad growing pains in the SEC.

IDK what other options UK has. Cox wasn't good last yr.

This is a key issue. At least cox could snap the ball but he apparently wasn't strong on calls. I noted several times last year there was zero communication coming from the center, which was very very concerning.

No idea what bowles looks like but you'd think he's serviceable at least.

The ultimate issue though is the staff will stick with Jager come hell or high water even if it means he just goes back to guard. He's always been mediocre at best but that didn't stop them from pushing out Austin Dotson and keeping him in the lineup regardless of the continual errors. I don't get it

Yes take for example the fearbry kid he was all over the place when in. Great PBU and a hard thumper hit or two. Gotta figure out a way to get the kid on the field.

With no injury, no we do not. That’s not how Stoops coaches…regrettably.
What do you mean by regrettably? Are you a smarter coach than Stoops?

What will happen depends on how practice goes this week. Stoops will lean toward allowing Burton to mature at the new position, as long as he practices well. But Stoops will defer to Liam on this.

We dont change unless we have a better option. From what I hear we dont. If he doesnt improve ( and he might do so) it will cost is a ball game down the road.
On those critical 4th downs.....even a low snap will blow up the flow of a bang/bang play....so when those plays happen...you can lose a game on a critical series.

Those bad snaps are throwing the timing off on all our pass plays, and even run plays. It is not just a 4th down issue.

Liam Coen looked REALLY frustrated in the booth at those bad snaps.

We are probably going to find out who runs the offense over this OLine problem....

I believe they will take a long, hard look at the C position this week. They're not going to torpedo a promising season by sticking too long with a problem. It's not just the over-the-head snaps that are the problem, imo. First, he snaps it back about 90 mph unlike others who've played the position. Second, it doesn't appear to have much spiral on the snap (maybe just every once in a while it's a knuckleball, which is what I've noticed). Third, many times, the ball is low or high or somewhere where Leary has to make a quick move to corral it - has to upset the timing if Leary is having to act like a soccer goalie on every snap. Fourth, his blocking has been inconsistent - one play he'll truck his man, the next he looks like he's lost and/or getting pushed around.

Keenum, Bowles (and maybe others) should get plenty of opportunity to see what they can do. Burton may be one of best 5 and should be starting, but, at least so far, he's not showing it on the field at center.

There is no need to fire the snap back there. If I'm QB I want a softer toss just easier to gather in rather than focusing on the catch first. Doest really save any time and all risk no reward IMO, rarely see a soft toss mishandled or over the head. Coaches should correct that.

I was super excited about the Keenum kid when he signed and think he is our next Drake or Luke down the road. Wish he has some experience before this but oh well.

Didnt we bench a center and let a Freshman Drake Jackson start?
Pretty sure Bunchy started at C after Toth left and he had the same issues we’re seeing with Burton. Like Cox last year he was just out of position and was 1st team AA after he moved back to guard. Missing Big John Schlarman and the days of the Big Blue Wall, dude could develop linemen like no one else I’ve seen here; losing him was the biggest blow we’ve had to this program in a long, long time.
