Rivals 5 star Mustapha Heron commits to
#AuburnTigers per Bryan Heron

Huge pickup for Pearl and the SEC. Helps pave the way for buddy Alkins to come south to UK as well.

Good pickup for them. I'm not upset that they're starting to get good players. Pearl is a good coach, if Auburn gets good players, they'll succeed under Pearl. I want the SEC to succeed, except against UK.

Mustapha Heron told me last week he liked that Bruce Pearl told him his two-guard has led the team in scoring in 20 of his last 22 years.

So much for recruting prowess of Slice. Missed on Diallo, missed on Heron.

Now if Bama can beat Kansas for Terrance Ferguson, and South Carolina can beat UNC for Seventh Woods, the SEC is poised to have another excellent recruiting year. Miss State is in on a bunch of guys too.

When a guy who's the coach at UT is thought of favorably by a good percentage of UK fans then you know he's a likeable guy. That helps recruiting for him just as it does Cal. And he's a pretty good coach to. The Cat's probably won't play Auburn as much at UT, but I can see some rather entertaining games coming. No doubt he's going to make Auburn competitive in the SEC just as he did UT.

This is the first I'm hearing of a supposed Alkins/Heron St. Johns package deal.

Alkins and Heron play together on the same AAU team, and Alkins has been quoted as saying he'd like to play in the backcourt with Heron in college. I think most presumed that SJU would have an advantage if that were truly an important consideration for them - since they are recruiting both guys.

I had thought SJU was our biggest competition for Alkins, so this is interesting. Wonder however if Rawle might look at Auburn now.

Especially considering the fact our own coach hates his guts.

No he doesn't. Call want wasn't implicated. Pearl was, and earned a show cause.

From the most corrupt organization in the world. A show cause from the NCAA means nothing. That organization is freaking clueless.

We have thread after thread after thread on here dogging the NCAA for their mishandling of the UNC** situation, along with several other absolute blunders of decisions, yet for some reason we take their side when it comes to Pearl? Why?

Pearl will have AU as the 2nd best team in the SEC in a couple of years. The fact that there is not much competition there helps, but still an accomplishment.

we needed a SEC team to replace UF
looks like AU is it

Wish we could have them both. We need the league to be strong. The Cats need to be battle-hardened and battle-tested when they enter the NCAA's.

I feel like a big percentage of why we were able to almost beat UL in football last season was from having been through murderer's row before playing them. I knew we would play them close because I knew that they were no where near the caliber we had been playing in the weeks leading up.

Yeah, Pearl had juniors over to a cookout...and then lied to the almighty NCAA! God forbid!
That's exactly what happened. And if UNC basketball goes unpunished it will really put in perspective how much of a double standard the NCAA has. Pearl basically lost his job because he had some players over for a barbecue and a team that's been allowing players to take fake classes to stay eligible may have nothing happen.

Thats exactly what Im saying on here. We've had countless threads about the ineptness of the NCAA and their blatant corruptness, yet we have several posters saying "Ah Pearl got a show-cause from the NCAA, I don't want him". Makes no sense at all. Its basically saying "The NCAA is a bunch of idiots except when it comes to the decision they made about Bruce Pearl"

Yes, it was stupid and the punishment didn't nearly fit the crime. Just pointing out the difference. Plus he lied about it, unlike Calipari, who reported Camby.

Exactly, that's where he screwed himself, he lied about it and I guess he didn't know the picture was out there (?) You get caught having a junior at a barbeque, fess up, its a slap on the wrist, what was the worst that could've happened? You lose a scholarship or two? You lie about it and then indisputable proof comes out to that shows you lied...sorry, but that's screwing the pooch. Doesn't matter that the lie was about something petty, he tried to cover his tracks to avoid a small punishment. The show cause didn't have anything to do with the barbeque, it had everything to do with the lying. I don't think Pearl is going to make that same mistake again.

The SEC is poised to be pretty competitive over the next few years with the addition of Ben Howland, Pearl and Rick Barnes. Those guys know how to recruit and win. Will be a fun league in years to come.

The BBQ doesn't bother me. The snitching stuff is the larger indicator that he's a weasel, but most top coaches are. It's a slimy business.

I'm on record as not wanting Pearl , if UK hired him then I'm not sure if I could support that . It's the backstabbing snitch aspect that I can't get past , certain things bother some people more and that one is an issue for me .

I knew it wouldn't take long for Pearl to start changing the game at Auburn. He is a great coach and recruiter and will have the tigers competing in a couple of years. I'm happy for him and the SEC. It really is unfortunate what happened with him at Tennessee. Hope he does well.

This will be good I'm sick of the talking heads saying there's only Kentucky in the SEC, gets old[thumb2]
