So if You're a Recruit and Just Watched the 30 for 30 . . .

It most definitely makes Coach Cal the "Gold Standard" in NCAA Basketball. Any kid that wants a coach that will ALWAYS have his best interest as the top priority, will choose UK.

guarantee Cal or someone else is sending copies of that doc to every current UK recruit. I've only met the man once and I'd be willing to run through a wall for him.

They should be thinking that Cal cares more about them than wins/loses or whatever happens to the program. He has demonstrated that time and time again.

I just don't see how Bamba could pick any other school.

Top HS basketball kids, doubt they are watching the whole thing even if they twitter or snap face it

Oh, I think the exact opposite. You might be right about guys in the 2017 class that is already committed somewhere but I'd bet the entire 2018 and 2019 class of elite guys and the 2017 uncommitted player are zoned in on the tube to watch this piece. At least I know I would be myself. I'd be trying to learn everything I could about these teams and if someone gave me an all access like this, better believe I'd be watching. Believe dat!

I am going to be stunned if bamba goes elsewhere. Seems like a smart, thoughtful kid and blue tint aside I think uk is the best option for him. Okay maybe some blue there.

I had to laugh at the reaction of the female sportscaster on ESPN after the segment where Cal was yelling at players during practice, like he was some sort of abusive psychopath. Most of the old-timers on here put up with that on a daily basis while playing organized sports and I don't think anyone was mentally damaged for life.

I know there is a quote out here along the lines "Cal doesn't yell at you, he just gives REALLY loud instructions"... :joy: :eyes:

I wonder just how many of these people doing sports have actually played any sport on an organized level, other than the commentators during NFL, NBA or MLB games.

I don't know , Cal makes you go to class and earn your grades , I can go to UNCHeat and do nothing but hang out, eat for free, sleep most of the day go to the gym the rest of the time.I don't have to worry about those silly things like classes that actually meet , home work, term papers and I still make the deans list with all A's and get my degree.

i think its pretty easy to see why the best of the best want to play for him. we hear often about its a "business decision". but its not really that simple. cal is insane, a mad man. he is going to push you harder than most. there is a reason why duke's player suck at D. coach k doesnt push them. if you want to coast, enjoy college, play basketball, spend 4 years to figure things out....uk isnt for you. if you want to be great....come here.

Every kid that needs to know, already knew the side of Cal that documentary showed. He's already told them the same things you heard Davis and others say Cal told them when he was recruiting them.

And it's true. Our fans wonder why we have so many guys leave early. It's because you have to be the best of the best, with the mindset that you're hungry and competitive, to survive here. Cal recruits and lands "multi-year" guys, and they either outperform that fake limiting label because they're made of what it takes, or they leave for somewhere they can hide.

That sounds harsh, but it's true. Our guys that "left too early" have either made it despite what our fans think (like Andrew, Goodwin, etc) or showed that they weren't cut out to be here anyway (Poole, etc.).

And really, how good are you ever going to be with guys who can't compete and are afraid of greatness? Is that the "experience" you want to carry us into the tournament?

The Dejuan Wagner part was particularly powerful, if Cal had let him come back like Wagner wanted to he never would've made a dime in the NBA and he wouldn't of even been able to help Memphis due to his condition. Because of Cal he was able to at least make several million dollars professionally.

It was telling that Bill Self was the only current coach to be interviewed and also stupid (and hypocritical) enough to speak out against OAD, even though he's taken OAD's when it benefitted him. If Jim Calhoun was still coaching, his comments would've killed him on the recruiting trail, but he's just saying what guys like Pitino and Roy also privately tell their players ("There's gotta be a way you can come back and help our program and the college game").

I thought the documentary mostly showed that in a game of self righteous, selfish hypocrites, Cal is one of the few guys that will tell players how it is and who will put his players above himself and the program. I know even some of our fans don't like that and don't agree, but that's the way you have to do it if you still want to sleep at night and not feel guilty about ruining some kids long term career aspirations.

The segment with Davis saying what Cal told him was very good imo. Straight up honesty.
The practice segment with him telling them I don't care what you are ranked. I don't care at all. Man that was good and right to the bone.
