So Embarrassing

Worst UF team in years and we look no different than the UK football I've watched the past 20 years....

I will never be a Towles fan. I cannot stand watching him shake in his shoes every time there is a big game. Look at UF's QB. Their QB is acting like he has a pair and roasting us.

Nobody with any sense thought that this win was going to be easy. Nobody with any sense thought UK was going to march through its schedule blowing teams out. The game is still relatively close. UK still has a great chance to win the game and the season is long. UK will go bowling this season.

Problem is, nobody is ever going to take UK football seriously until it can beat Florida. That losing streak is THAT embarrassing.

We'll have to see how the season plays out...but this UF teams execute way better than any Muschamp or Ron Zook team. The throws Grier is making and UF's good hands are eons better than the past UF squads. And the Defense McElwain inherited is flat out stacked as usual.

The only same old UK I'm seeing is our offensive tackles are on skates vs. UF defense ends. Everything else is much improved to my eyes.

It is definitely embarrassing how the O-line has looked. Towles has looked blah, even when he had time. That free play throw to no one in particular was pretty horrific.

Well UK is never going to move up in the SEC unless it can take advantage by beating teams like Florida in their down years. But, I don't now that UK won't do that in this game. There is a half of football left and UK has managed to keep the game close.

I know and I appreciate your optimism, however I highly doubt Kentucky comes back. I've seen it too many times.

Earlier this week I was called out for saying the o-line showed a lot of little mistakes in the first two games that would be exacerbated in this game because of Florida's stout defense. I wasn't saying it to be negative, but often you can get away with little mistakes against inferior opponents that you can't get away with when the opposing team is better.

I guess you never saw Woodson or Couch or Hartline play when there was a big game.

Understandable. I've never seen UK beat Florida, but I'm not giving up hope just yet. I hate Florida.

My advice after 33 years of watching this game, get used to Kentucky always being on the losing end. Short of a miracle, there's no way Kentucky will ever win this game again.

Towles isn't a great QB by UK standards...but he isn't the difference in this game. We simply can't block UF front 4....it really isn't about the QB unless you can find a scrambling QB that can pull plays out his rear end.

Agree. But miracles happen. The first miracle in order is a new set of refs being installed. Then a defibrillator machine being given to the entire offensive unit.

The offensive line is having a rough night, but Towles has got to extend plays by getting out of the pocket.
He's a statue back there and Florida knows it.

Yeah, and although Missouri has sucked so far this year they are known for good d-lines. That kinda makes me wonder about next week.

At least we looked good on run blocking on that drive. Lets face it, Towles cannot be leaned on to win games. Our running game is our bread and butter.

Towles is close to being a great QB by "UK standards" as you put it. The problem is that is a pretty low bar. Couch was a mediocre pro, mainly because of injuries, but we haven't had another good quarterback since the 70's.

Is it the 3/8, 43 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT stats that are making you think he's close to a great qb?

Couch was an elite college QB, Woodson was very elite as well his last 2 years...JLO was a very good one and I'd argue Hartline's Sr year was very solid. Towles is trending somewhere close to Hartline to me. But as much scrutiny that Pat is under right now...he's way better than Morgan Newton, Max Smith, Jaylen Whitlow, Shane Boyd drech of UK past QBs.

I'm a younger guy, but of the real QB's that played QB in my lifetime, Towles is the worst and we actually have had several very good QBs whether you admit it or not. Throwing out WR's and TE's (Morgan Newton, Cobb, Roark), We actually have had some great ones and I'd rank em like this:

Couch
Woodson
J-Lo
Dusty Bonner
Hartline
Boyd
Billy Jack Haskins
Max Smith
Towles

"Great Quarterbacks" if you want to go 1-7 in the SEC.

I was there and remember that particular play. Towles did exactly what he was supposed to do. Our wide receiver STOPPED running down the sideline.

I've easily give you Couch, Woodson, JLO and Sr year Hartline (many people forget his rocky Jr year). And I can concede Bonner as he left UK and did great things at Valdosta..

But Shane Boyd...are you serious? (13 TD vs. 17 Ints and led some of the most woeful offensive units at UK)
Max Smith...rewind to his Sr year. We went 2-10 with him around.
Billy Jack Haskin? are you thinking only of 1 play vs. UT...that's all the dude did at UK.

Towles in his Jr year and is better than those guys ever where in their Sr years and it isn't even close. I'm not pleased with some aspects of Pat's game last night but to start the over reaction of past UK QBs that never did a thing are better than Pat is typical of too many UK fans.
