which single newcomer are you most impressed with? They're all really good, but I've been most impressed with Briscoe's grittiness. No fear. It's tough to pick just one though.

Murray. His motor is always running. He is a competitor and will rip your heart out with the drive, the dish or the dagger, mid range or deep.

Probably Murray due to his all-around game. But Briscoe's defense and toughness should not be underestimated. Hell, I'm loving them all.

Probably Briscoe, since expectations were a little lower than for the rest.

His defense has been great. Still has to improve his shooting.

Had some reservations about Briscoe, but I am very, very impressed. In terms of reality vs expectation, he wins. Total bulldog of a guard who impacts the game on both ends, and doesn't have to hit any shots to do so.

Had huge expectations for Murray, and he's pretty close to what I hoped for. He's still working out what are and aren't good shots in this system, but he's capable of dominating games.

A little disappointed in Skal. He's an incredibly gifted scorer, and his shotblocking is solid, but damn, man, you're almost 7 feet tall- find a way to get some rebounds.

Matthews is about what I expected, probably a little better. Really elite athlete, and if he develops his skills, he's got an NBA future.

They all bring something to the table and it's tough to choose one. Murray is so smooth and our best shooter. Briscoe with toughness and defense. Humphries with a big body down low. But I think I'll go with Matthews. He does a lot of good things and will probably more minutes as the season goes on.

I expected murray and Skal to be great. So, in terms of expectations versus reality, definitely Briscoe.

I was worried he might be a little like a better Archie Goodwin, in that he'd put his head down and head for the rim too often. But he tends to make pretty good decisions for a freshman. He finishes so well at the rim, and he has such a wonderful personality and demeanor. He plays great defense and works really hard and seems very coachable. Just needs to work on those FTs! I'm beyond pleased with him so far.

Couldn't say I'm disappointed in Skal. Would be nice if he were a hungrier rebounder. Truth is, he's letting Briscoe come in and take them. Poythess is going hard to the glass as well. Lee too, really.

Murray has been my favorite. Skal shows flashes of brilliance, and Briscoe has been far more steady than I expected.

Matthews has been almost exactly what I thought he would be.

Murray . I knew what Briscoe was . I watched him play 12 times over his hs career and he was the best PG in high school in the states for a reason. Murray I thought would be the best guard in the college and he is . If he was on a team like Iowa St or even Duke he would score 40 a game as if that punk Allen can score 30 a game at duke Murray can do better then that.

Briscoe would be my pick. I knew what Murray would do but Briscoe is better player at this early stage than I thought he would be. Matthews is going to be real good by March.

I think most of us expected Murray to play at a high level and he has met those expectations very impressively. But I'll give Briscoe the nod. He plays pretty good D and drives really hard to basket. He has the toughness to fight through contact and finish when you need a bucket.

I think I'm most impressed with Murray overall, so far. He's had a couple bad games but he's also been very impressive a couple games also. He is gonna be a superstar. I think he also has yet another gear we haven't seen just yet. I think if this team is losing and needs plays and points, he will do even more.

In terms of expectations, after tonight, I'd have to say Matthews has exceeded what I thought he'd be. After the preseason games, I expected very little from him. But he was excellent tonight. If he can hit a 3 here and there, like he did tonight, look out!

Briscoe. His defense has simply been 10x better than i anticipated.

Murray, to me, has been a bit of a disappointment. My expectations were high. Expected high volume, efficient shooting. His 3-balls haven't fallen at the rate he's capable of.

Murray's shooting has been fine. He had one grossly anomalous 1 for 10 night against NJIT.

Other than that, he has been 40% or better in 4 of 6 games and 33% in the other.

So if you were disappointed because he kept chucking that one night and couldn't throw it in the ocean, I get it. Other than that, he's been fine.

Briscoe is not as good of a shooter as i expected. I knew he was inconsistent but he hasn't really shown a lot of shooting ability. That said he has impressed me the most. He can play the game and goes hard in the paint. He's a stellar ball handler and a hound on D. He makes good plays and has really appeared to have bought into what Cal is selling.

I knew Murray would be a stud and skal but Briscoe is better than I thought. And I wasn't sure if he could find a role in this offense. I was dead wrong. Love this team and having fun watching them five games in

That 1 game was beyond gross.

He's been awesome, but i just expected stupid efficiency.

I was at that game....it was pretty amazing he missed some of those good looks.

He is shooting 47% from 2 and 42% from three in the other 5 so I am assuming that is more his norm.

Yeah, he's headed towards a good direction efficiency wise. He's too skilled.

My expectations were sky high. Like..i expected Denzel Valentine type stuff. Crazy for a freshmen, i know.

I don't get the Mulder disappointment. I pretty much believed that if he contributed any at all it would just be icing on the cake.

Let's not forget that he played at Vincennes University. Hawkins would likely be the best player on that team.

I can't pick just one. I like what I see from all of them. They are a work in progress and they're all going to have their ups and downs. Each one brings something to the game that makes our team hard to handle. The depth and speed of this team is wearing our opponents out. Mulder is just being out played right now. He'll get it soon.

UK has way too many good rebounders on our team and Murray does not get the ball in his hands all the time like Valentine so that was never gonna happen.

It's about timing and needless turnovers. Not amount all the time.

I recently walked into a deli, asked for a half pound each of provolone cheese and sliced owl. Got accused of being a Temple fan and escorted from the premises. Thanks a heap.

I'm surprised that Briscoe has a higher defensive rebounding rate than Skal.

I'm impressed with all our freshmen. Murray simply knows how to play...he has an amazing skill set and is a pretty good athlete as well. Skal is better than I thought he would be offensively. He's kind of like WCS with a great shooting stroke. The way he shut off the drive by a USF guard and then swatted away his shot reminded me of Willie. Briscoe is a little shaky from the perimeter, but his defense is sensational. Matthews is arguably the only true 3 man on the team. Very impressed with him as well. It's nice to see such offensive prowess from a freshman class...this team will be so much fun to watch as the season progresses.

I wonder if the KU fan still thinks Briscoe sucks? I remember him on here telling us that the kid won't be a real OnenDone type of talent. I think with his toughness and driving skills, if this kid wants to leave after just one year of college basketball, he can. The guy i'm most surprised about is Matthews. I think we were all expecting this kid to be better than his ranking suggested, but not by this much. If he ever developes a reliable jumpshot, he has an Nba career ahead of him. Even without it i think he makes it to the Nba. The kid can jump so high and grab rebounds away from big, taller post players. Skal has looked good, but if i'm being honest, i guess i expected more. When you have such great frontcourt players in Cal's past teams, it might make these expectations impossible to match.
