I don't even understand the argument that the penalty was too harsh...

Their players continually received impermissible benefits over the course of a 4 year period which by any logic should have rendered them ineligible.

Games that these ineligible players played in should be forfeited.

Period!

Not rocket science.

On top of that, the financial audit revealed that there was a lack of institutional control, not just in the athletic department, but throughout the entire school, which further hinders their argument that they shouldn't have known what was going on in their basketball dorm.
The leadership at that school was too busy taking care of themselves to be responsible for the well being of their students and athletes.

This is a "smoke and mirrors" defense which tries to deflect from the very simple fact that they used ineligible players, therefore those games are null and void.

People need to realize they cant appeal anything with the findings. The only way to win an appeal to keep the banners is to prove somehow a technicality within the rules that was administered incorrectly.

Their entire bases for doing that is the $ amount for these athletes would have not made them ineligible if found in real time. Of course that will never fly due to they would have never found in real time as the acts were hidden intentionally to create a recruiting advantage, led by a staff member.

They are toast.

The fact that they base their appeal on something so ridiculous makes me realize just how much there must have been that we DON'T know about.....

Their argument SHOULD be:

The women were just too damn ugly to be considered a benefit. Now, if I'm the NCAA, I would definitely take THAT into consideration.

Not sure I could dispute that line of thinking.

Chuck Smrt mentioned in the press conference that those players would/could have been re-instated at some point, but the parties never stopped over the 4 year period.

The players can only be re-instated after the problem has been dealt with and rectified.

Their whole argument is skewed to begin with.

That was basically what Dave Jennings was saying yesterday, which IMO is extremely sexist and rude.

Arguing ANY of this shows a shocking lack of self awareness.

Not only that, but only impermissible benefits are allowed to be re-payed and eligibility restored. Extra benefits make players automatically ineligible. The players were determined to have received extra benefits. They have no case.

Correct, but they won't let facts get in the way of deflecting themselves to the victim... but...not so fast my friend...
I've only seen Vitale, Jay, Wilbon and UL fans actually defend him or UL... the rest are like "wtf, there was strippers, prostitution and underage prostitution on campus for FOUR years...the penalty is kinda light"

Maybe some higher authority outside of duhvill will show them that the appeal is a bad idea and will only create more sordid pr for everyone involved, and they should reconsider.

I've said for months now, self awareness is my favorite term over the past year and is what every person in the Louisville administration who holds a leadership roll obviously lacks. They're a disgrace.

Just to be clear: I was joking.

Ok, so here's my two cents. And I'll try to keep it short. EDIT: I failed miserably.

This isn't going on the actual timeline of events and I'm sure I'll miss some things but here's what I got.

Pitino has an affair (nobody's business except it was on a restaurant table) and pays for "insurance"....cough cough....abortion.

Louisville hires Charlie strong, which wasn't a big deal other than the fact they also hired a cheating coach with him in clint hurt who had a show cause penalty against him.

Then Louisville hires Petrino again after signing 10 years of contracts (in one calendar year) to three different organizations (Louisville, Atlanta, Arkansas) before having an embarrassing affair and a "motorcycle accident" while also using money from a state funded school to pay his mistress. He lied about it, but oh well, he can coach.

Then they have strippers in dorms and sex parties for 4 years. FOUR YEARS!!! 1,460 days!!!! Meanwhile the entire administration has dumbass looks on their faces with their palms up going "duh, we don't know how this happened. We're so ashamed and saddened that ONE PERSON did this". They COMPLETELY emphasize the "one person" rhetoric. I don't even have to go further into this since it's being talked about everywhere.

They have "wakey leaks" where they get information on wake forest's playbook and lie about it. Yes, they lied about it, as did petrino during an interview where most of what he said proved to be false.

Their foundation audit comes out and is filled with an amazing amount of unethical and unjustifiable spending. They ran the foundation like the mob and the people at the top capitilized financially by the millions and then had coverups that would make Washington politicians envious. Again, after numerous other scandals the leadership comes out completely dumbfounded and befuddled at what happened acting as if they had not clue what was going on and literally use that ignorance as their defense! It's actually laughable that people so stupid, naive and patronizing are at the top of the university's leadership positions!

Lastly but not in chronological order, their idiot women's basketball coach comes out with a rant about today's generation and how privileged they are, how entitled they are and they're the problem yet his BOSS is making money in a dirty shameful way, paying his son almost a million dollars for god knows what and letting a brothel go on for FOUR YEARS!

Their defense in all of this is simply, "we didn't know! How would we have known?!? How dare we get penalized for something we didn't know! We don't deserve any of this!" (Pitino literally said that last part)

How would they have known?!?!? Really?!?! I DONT KNOW YOU JACK WAGON!!! MAYBE PAY JUST A LITTLE BIT OF ATTENTION FOR FOUR YEARS!!!!!! THATS CALLED FAILURE TO MONITOR AND ITS A PRETTY GREAT CASE TO USE AS AN EXAMPLE FOR THE REST OF COLLEGE ATHLETICS!!! HOW DARE THE NCAA TAKE GAMES AWAY (no, not suspend the program from another tournament or anything else but they take away games that have already been played)

Its the definition of corruption. Louisville has been on probation for more years in their history than we have yet the mental indigents that they are argue about Kentucky being dirty. And those probation years don't include this latest s*^t show. How could any parent on earth want their child playing for a program that says "we're about doing things the right way and people being held accountable" yet not one mf'r has claimed any responsibility whatsoever. If a six year old used the same defense (I didn't know) we wouldn't give them any sympathy.

Own up to it you bunch of clowns. Take responsibility, show your student athletes what it's like to take accountability and lead by example. That's how you teach kids to be productive adults you hypocrites. Not by showing them exactly how NOT to act when times get tough.

I now can't stand the scum rat rick pitino. He's corrupt and chalk me in for taking his GD banner down from the rupp arena rafters. He doesn't deserve to be up there and frankly it's an embarrassment that he even ever coached here.

They might have had better success fighting it as a "cultural" difference between those sitting in judgment and those from the more urban upbringing. That is making it hard to point fingers at UNC..... its the AFAM Studies program...white elites just do not understand and their white privilege disqualifies them from sitting in judgment. Had Smrt used that strategy...who knows.

Now tell us how you REALLY feel, Trav! JK. It was long but I enjoyed the summary. Well done.
