Slam Online ranks top 30 All-time mixtapes

I have to disagree with a lot of those especially considering the exclusion of Malik Monk's mixtapes.

How does Austin Rivers even make the list?

John Wall's mixtape still holds up as totally insane. After watching it for the first time, I thought no way this kid will live up to the hype. Too bad a John Wall level of point guard doesn't come around every recruiting season for Cal.

I was prepared to be pissed that Randle was left off but he checked in at #13. Very good list you can tell they put a lot of thought into it.

Personally for me Anthony Davis's mixtape would be high on the list. Some of the things he did in high school were incredible and unlikely to be repeated.

Walls is forever the best. Insane lay ups. Dunks from everywhere with both hands. Shakes people with ridiculous crossovers. Just nasty. I think monk should be on there as well. I liked the real T Jones as well.

I think that list helps illustrate what's probably the single most important thing that separates good from great as you move up to the highest levels: Ballhandling.

The reason guys like Seventh Woods, Deuce Bello, Shaquille Aaron, and James "Flight" White don't become great players (or even good players, in some cases) is almost always because they lack the ballhandling skills to beat high level defenders. Yeah, they also usually don't shoot particularly well, but plenty of guys make a huge impact without a great shot. If a player isn't a threat to beat a defender off the dribble, he's easy to guard, even if he's athletic enough to bang his forehead on the rim.

And the importance of that is only expanding as the traditional big guy goes the way of the Dodo.

The thing that made JW's mixtape so insane was that it wasn't even a mixtape in the standard sense. It was more or less just every time that mofo touched the ball in a few games.

I had a dream right before he signed that some analyst admitted Wall wasn't really a 5 star; he was a 7 star.

Dude delivered imo.

Back when Anno Domini beats made the videos even more . Loved their stuff.

Perry Jones has one of the best videos I've ever seen. I thought hed be an all star by now the way he destoryed people. Its why, after he never did anything, I saw Bagley and said hes what i always thought jones would 've been, but the real deal. Similar styles but Bagley obviously isnt just highlights.

Also Chris "Top Flight" Wright had one that blew me away but I cant find it anymore. Would be on that list if it still existed i bet. As for rivers, he was amazing in high school. Saw him play several times and always put on a show. He was LaMelo ball with actual talent and and Doc Rivers name behind it. Hate him or not, he was the real deal in high school though I still never understood the number 1 rankings

I thought Aaron Gordon's would be higher. I know it's mostly just dunking but I it was fun to watch.

John walls mixtape is insane. Idt there will ever be another HS player to top it. The way it ends with him throwing a shot out of the gym to win the game was awesome. 2009-2010 Cats are one of the best teams not to win a title.

Didn't UNC not recruit John Wall and then once Cal came to UK they tried to get in on his recruitment late. Wall said Thanks, but no thanks". Am I right on this?

Anno Domini Beats always made blocks, dunks, and made jumpers timed to the beat of the background music. Made the videos way more badass.

Does Skip To My Lou count? Rafer Alston on the And 1 Mix Tape Volume 1 was crazy good.

I'd like to add that the opening of Aquille Carr's video is the greatest worst thing I've ever saw. [laughing]

Where is Zion? I know he is still in high school, but his mix tapes have to be top 3 right? The kid does things that don't look humanly possible.
